Ninja is now 67 and with nothing else to do it's going to be 75 very soon. I'm thinking about merits. Obviously I'm going to put 8 Katana merits but not sure whether to merit evasion or crit hit rate. Not really going to be tanking much, going for more of a DD style.

Any suggestions?

Do the basics ( crit rate , str, weapon) and then you can basically ignore everything else on nin unless you're bored.

i honestly wouldnt merit katana. 9 times out of 10 when your on ninja and tanking, you (should) be using earth staff or hades santi. it will help you in merit thats for sure, but your drk would be much more useful in merit then nin would i would think.

evasion is good if you solo alot on ninja, but /dnc just makes it a tad bit useless.

merit your drk zerg weapon :p

A) he said he wasnt meriting nin to tank and even then such an excuse to not merit katana is silly.
B) in a PROPER zerg with drk you're going to have at least feint or sv madrigal thrown in as a buff to the point that meriting a drk zerg weapon would be even more useless than doing so already currently is for people without the support as said weapon will whiff too much for it to work even with club merits.

If you have the combat merits to spare, merit katana.
Crit 4/4
STR 5/5

Ninja tool expertise 5/5 if you're bored, and subtle blow as well.

Ninja merits are garbage unless you plan to solo often.

Maxed Ninja tool expertise isn't garbage if when your in a party. It saves you quite a bit of gil.. expecially with AF2 hands. I suppose subtle blow is a bit more useful when solo, but it doesn't hurt..

And... obviously your not gonna be a career NIN but if you were, you could max out an elemental(s) san in tier 2 and power in tier 1 and with ninjustu gear do quite a bit of dmg for range fighting or mobs weak to magic.

Bolded for unfortunate truth whether you hoped to or not. ; ; Too many people have NIN and even then, PLDs are now preferred except in very few fights. Looks to me like they need to do something with NIN now.

Maybe a stratagem system with a few abilities to spice up the possibilities. Have something or a few somethings that spice up Throwing and/or Ninjitsu. Could be a way to have Throwing Weaponskill type abilities. Have to have a 100%+ TP and use one of these "Stratagems" to gain access to a WS list. For Ninjitsu they could have stuff that affects the accurecy and potency. Things for casting/recast could be broken so I'd not recommend that. While this would be more fun, I'm not sure it would make them re-balance with PLD. But who knows. PLD and NIN kinda flip flop. It was always PLD first, then NIN picked up a lot of pace once it got a little cheaper, now PLD is preferred if they have a Haste Build for PLD/NIN.

Anyhow, on the merits. I'd stop after 5/5 Ninja Tool and 5/5 Subtle blow for NIN only merits.

Well I'm only doing social atm. So NIN will be just helping people out or to mess around atm.

Yeah, totally agree. We only have mijin and sange(if you merit it) for ability anyways. ><

just think if they adjusted elemental justu to have a enchancing effect on enfeebles (similar to ice shot ect, maybe now potency but duration), would open up new possibilities ^^

I know this, as I am a career NIN.
Speaking to someone who is not going to be a career ninja, and shihei being 35k for 1200 casts, I don't think the time spent getting 5/5 merits is worth it.

Thats the thing...its not only shihei, its everything. Sneak tools, Invis, Enfeeb, Elemental and Shadows. A real career NIN would carry and use them all. With AF2 gloves and fully merited its about 58% chance of not using that tool. Thats good. If you think thats bad then ok thats your opinion.

Because a non-career nin is going to be using so many invis, sneak, and ninjutsu enfeeble tools. *rolls eyes*
Nice attempt to condescend though.

-.-? Any NIN, career or not, will use alot of sneak, invis and shihei. Thats how you get around and tank. And having that merited they might be more willing to bring a stack of element and enfeeb. The more tools you have the better you are. He even said that he will be doing little stuff like messing around with NIN, that means he could probably use the enfeebs when there is no other job with him that can. Non-career doesn't mean you never play the job ever. It just means to me that you don't gear it to its max or play it only. Makes no sense to me to not merit a benefit, even if its a little one. (This one isn't even quite little, again.)

I'd say I was as much of a career ninjas as anyone, and I never bothered with Ninja Tool Expertise. Maybe if you just enjoy meriting and have no other jobs that need merits...then yea..go for it.

4 evasion merits is kinda nice if you have combat skill merits to burn, NIN/DNC is one hell of a solo machine and 8 evasion skill is quite a bit. Its a luxury I wish I could have, but unfortunately with so many DD jobs evasion skill merits just isn't viable. You only have DRK and NIN though, so you could do it if you wanted to.

I do have 8 Ninjutsu Skill Merits as well, which some might consider hardcore...but it does help a bit landing enfeebles, since it can be pretty fucking annoying to constantly get resists when you are soloing/low manning on NIN.

ninja tool and subtle blow are the only decent option, but they sure look like a waste of merit to me lol. All ninja tools are super cheap... Ninjas don't get anything that enhances their DD or tanking style.. subtle blow could be a useful option, but when I tank I stand up and don't melee to avoid TP feed, much more efficient lol. And when I DD I don't need subtle blow.

Now, ninja is my last jobs that needs merits so I caped subtle blow, ninja tools, and working on both raiton options ( for earth resist down..)

Imma 75 with a pretty good grip on the job and I'd say that your biggest prob with ninja would be accuracy. I'd go katana>crit%>eva>str. But then that's just me...
If you're going to DD heavily utilize all the WS i.e. Raiton: Ni >>>Blade: Chi>>>Doton: Ni etc.
And don't be afraid to MB with npc

main:sasuke katana
sub:senjuiriko
ammo:fenrir's stone
head:denali bonnet
body:scorpion harness
hands:seiryu's kote
earring1/2: suppanomimi/velocity or attila's earring(/sam)
ring1/2:kshama ring#3/sniper's ring
back:amemet mantle
waist:scouter's rope
legs:koga hakama
feet:denali gamashes

full crit% merits
full eva merits
no katana merits(too many jobs)

:shok: definitely hardcore
please don't merit ninjitsu
denali kecks and gamashes will give u more than enough mag acc
you'd honestly be wasting merits imo....

What? No lol, 5 or 6 macc will not give you more than enough macc. Listen, I'm sure you mean well, but you also list Denali head as part of your ninja gear. I don't wanna sound arrogant, but I will. I've tanked things you will never dream of tanking on NIN and I've solod things I'm sure you never will on nin, and there is never a time or place for Denali head and there is no way 6 macc is sufficient to land enfeebles on things I've tanked and/or enfeebled. Your whole gear set completely blows my mind, what exactly are you trying to achieve with that gear set? Your best bet is to carry around a decent ninjutsu skill build if you are going to be soloing top notch mobs. The inventory used to be a problem, but with satchel and more inventory it really shouldn't be.

Also, did you just advocate using Blade:Chi? lol, I could see making an argument for Blade: Kamu for the acc down effect....but Blade Chi? If you are going to fully DD, then its Melee and Blade: Jin as soon as you reach 100% TP. I'm also going to just ignore the fact that you listen /sam as a sub job for ninja...

You'd probably wanna also say that you're just outright the best damn ninja on the server seeing as how you've done so much... My gear is for solo parrying/tp build considering nin's parrying cap. And the hat is situational considering all it has to offer nin. He also noted that he'd be doing little things with it, not HNM,ZNM,ENM, etc. So, with all do respect imo you'd be wrong or salaciously dense to not see the benefits of my build. I mean it's not like i don't have fumas/dusk for Ni macro lol
