Ok, 90% of parties I get into I either get a "ok now we have to find a thf or the nin can't hold hate" or a "omg you can tank"

I'm gettin a lil tired of this. Apparently there are a lot of ninjas out there that just plain freakin SUCK at the job. For the love of god, learn to play it or don't play it at all. I'm sick of being classified as a dumbass before people even see me play just because some other people just can't get their act together. I rarely see a NIN with appropriate equipment or even up to date equipment, and I've only seen one other actually use ninjitsu other than utsusemi (you DO have those for a reason ya know) . Seriously, if you're not going to put the money into equipment/tools and effort into actually learning how to use your ninjitsu and stuff do us all a favor and don't play the freakin job.

I totally agree... I'm a BLM, so I get a good feel for how good a tank is at holding hate, and there's only two nin's I've ever pt'd with that play their jobs to the full potential... neither of them needs a thief in the pt for me to do as much dmg as mp permits. It's funny because I tell people about them, and they don't believe me... Shows how few nin's really play their job that well.

Welcome to my world Marael. Except, with Paladins, there are probably 10 idiots for every 1 Ninja idiot. ^^

Sparky uses chi blast
Sparky uses Focus
Sparky uses Berserk
Sparky whacks the mob
Sparky whacks the mob
the mobs attacks Sparky and not the nin...

what are melees just not supposed to use abilities?

IMO a decked out melee will rip hate off a decked out Ninja.

THF+NIN is like icing on the cake.

Okay, point taken.
However Spamming abilities is not the smartest thing to do. If you space them out a little you will not pull hate if you even have a decent Nin tank. I used to have that problem when I first started getting into parties with my Mnk. I was building up a sub for my War and wasnt sure how to handle a job that wasnt supposed to hold hate yet. However before I quit playing Mnk I had learned the secret. Its not very difficult.
I am going to use Drk as an example because I am much more comfortable with those abilities and how to use them. Its been a long time since I played Mnk in other words.
Fight starts and the first thing I do is my Absorb spells. I wait until the Tank has secured hate on himself and engaged then I Absorb-Vit and Absprb-Agi. There isn't enough hate generated by these two spells to pull aggro from the tank.
Then I engage the mob. Give the tank a chance to swing two or three times before I pop Berserk. Tank swings three or four more times then I pop Soul eater. Soul eater draws a massive amount of aggro so I usually wait until the tank has either A: voked again or B: landed five or six hits. Then I pop Last Resort, and if TP is up I will hit my WS. By the time I have ran through all that the tank has built up enough hate to hold the mob even though I am hitting for almost 300 damage.
So the secret is space your abilities. Instead of spamming through all of them one right after the other, give your tank a chance to consolidate hate onto himself. If you want to go ahead and use all of them at the start of the fight, do it before the mob is in the camp. when the puller says he is on his way, then spam abilities. When the mob comes in hit him with Chi Blast then, just do it before the Tank vokes it. That will make a whole lot of difference.

IMO focus and berserk should be used in conjunction. A pld can hold it off fine, however a ninja cannot. basicly you are saying slow your abilites down(which in turn lessons your damage) to allow the ninja to tank?

im sayin a nin with thf, allows you to maximize your damage output, and not have to 'hold back'

In 66levels, I have partied with two that could hold hate. Usually it's enfeeble, enfeeble, enfeeble, enfeeble, (mob half dead) ONE blizzard2 and I now have hate. I'll play with nin tanks, but just don't have fun with them.

Just so the thread gives some props, the two nin tanks I refer to are Robyn and Kireek.

No you do not do less damage.
When you do it this way, not only do you still do the same damage, you make the job easier for the tank. When you look at the time that the abilities last for you will see that Berserk lasts for three minutes, Focus only lasts for two. So you can pop Berserk let the tank get hate back under control then pop Focus. Hell you can just throw in a Boost to kill the middle time if you want. There you go.
So like this all you do is switch the damage you would do at the begining of your ability run for the damage you do at the end. The big difference, you let the tank keep hate.
Look at the timing of things, you can do everything you want and let the tank keep hate.

You may say that I am a poor ninja because I cannot hold hate. Its true, I can't. Simply because of the fact that I never have WAR subbed for Provoke. I never levelled WAR - levelling it was too boring for me and I lost interest.

That said, I got NIN, SAM and RNG levelled up without using WAR. Its a tough life but I manage.

I only use NIN as a subjob for RNG which is my main (some may say "only") job.

When I level NIN, I sub SAM. On rare occasion I get the question, "Why SAM?" or "Do you have WAR? We need you to tank". Its a shame I know, but I do invest in the Ninjitsu spells. I have all of them and I use the spells to great effect. Apparently, having SAM subbed isnt all that bad according to some professional players. It just isn't preferable thats all.

I don't know if I would be categorised as one of the crappy Ninjas or not but I have my reasons. I am always geared up to scratch though.

Perhaps someone could give me tips on how I could level my NIN job better and don't say, "Level up WAR dammit!". I only focus on one job and that is RNG. I have no interest to be anything else. I find levelling every job is tedious and expensive and overly time consuming. Plus, will never get to highlevel in good time.

I guess people level up their lower jobs because of money probelms and that is understandable.^^

Sorry, but the answer is: level war. Seriously, it's not that hard, or expensive to get a War to 18 (which is all you'd ever need). I know you aren't gonna like this, but without war sub, your nin is a leech in most parties.

Hay Alanon! Thats okay, I understand and completely agree with you.

It is quite "leechy" isn't it tee-hee! The thing is, I get invited to parties just as much as any other Ninja anyways. They usually have a PLD tank or something. I guess that just because they need another player to get going. Ah well. Still, I am not a Ninja really, I am a Ranger - I guess thats not the point, playing smartly is. Ya I agree with you^^

/think

Maybe WAR18 isnt too far off, I have it to level 5 so far.

I have up to date equipment for my nin.No leaping boots or pin but well i have evasion on each piece andaround my level range.I use utsusemi jabaku kurayami and raiton each fight unless the blm is doin it.Its not that hard to keep hate without a thief but for bursts i think thief would be nice.

I do understand not wanting to party with war, especially the dunes! bleh! What you can do with it however is just take it up into ghelba and consider it light "farming". You'll get all kinds of fire crystals and beastmen seals.

Ya I know~^^ It just I'm a girl and theres not pretty stuff or glamour with WAR, its just beat the baddie with a stick or something or poke its eye out with provoke.

The farming is an good thing I guess though. Oh Dunes! My nightmare. I hate that place. ;;

Im a 51 drk..... food + absorb spells + berserk + souleater + last resort the only thing i come close to dealing 300 dmg on is a bat. Ruck lies. unless your party is fighting EP or too weak you aint doin no 300 dmg its more like 150-200 without crit. hit. :?

I've dealt 290 on an xp mob at level 40. The 40 Drg I static with hit's for 350+ regularly and occasionally 400+.

Heh. Thanks for the inadvertant tip meant for someone else. I have to level WAR for when I get NIN, too.

Wow, where to start.

Yeah, you sound like a crappy NIN. What do you do when you play NIN? Are you trying to tank like this? You can spam ninjutsu all you want, but at 29 the elem. debuffs are don't do much--Hojo, Kurayami, and Dokumori are more useful, but they will not hold hate on their own. If you're lucky and play with a THF that's 30+, you can leech off their SATA--and I wouldn't normally call it leeching, but you don't seem to be putting in any effort of your own. What have you been doing from 12-29?

Are you trying to play NIN as big DD? At 29? With first-tier ninjutsu? The first few katana WS which don't do much for damage.

Tough life mostly for the poor people who get to party with you, sounds like.

Well, why do you sub SAM? What advantages does it give you at this level?

No amount of good gear is going to make you more useful to a party playing like this. Yeah, a crappy player with good gear is better than a crappy player with crappy gear, but that's hardly the standard to go by.

What job did you take to 30 to unlock these jobs with?

Suck it up. Yeah, it's your money and you're entitled to play however you want. But like it or not, the group aspect is an important part of the game, and I'll be damned if I'm going to spend my time and money in a party with someone who's doing fuck all but leeching XP. I'm sure you'll get invites--there are plenty of incompetent players who get pretty high because people are desperate or clueless.

I have no idea how good you are as RNG, but the fact that you can't be bothered to spend a couple of days leveling WAR to 18 so you're not useless to your parties as NIN doesn't give me any incentive to give you a try.
