I'm not reading anything here. I just wanted to say that...

1) I read the title and quickly thought "Did Vang post this?"
2) nope. oh ... well... sorry vang guess you didn't.

sounded like one.

I partied with a NIN recently as my THF. I asked him if he had tools for Jubaku and he said "no, but I have tools for Huton." I asked if he just had Huton and he said yes. So I start getting a little pissed. Then I check him... out of all his gear had like +4 EVA. Horrible equipment. So now i'm really pissed. So I said "why don't you get all your tools, ever heard of enfeebling and the elemental wheel?!?"

"I'm not as rich as some players"

/em dies.

So while I am tring to convince party leader (in /tells) to replace this total waste of my time and complaining about this shitwhore to my LS, I am not paying any attention. Guess what, I pull Aquarius (that macro I could cancel when I was level 50 marks, isn't so easy to cancel anymore). Icing on the birthday cake. I eat the death and the party leader just decides to disband party.

Moral to the story... If you can't go out and farm until you have enough gils to buy every tool in multiple stacks, DON'T PLAY FUCKING NIN YOU FUCKING ASSHOLE!

There are 2 jobs in the game that require a decent chunk of change to be played well and yet it's always the poorest cats that want to play them....

I see there are valid points from several points of view on this, and I would also have to agree with using WAR as a sub to NIN. My static currently consists of this:

WHM
BRD
DRK
DRG
SAM
NIN (me)

I was previously a DRK, so I understand keeping hate because with DRK I had PT'd with both PLD's and NIN's as my tank, and I would have to play it differently depending on which it was at the time. I have come to LOVE my NIN, and being that our static is heavily melee based, there is NO WAY I would be able to keep the hate if not for my Ninja Tools. Yes, it digs a huge hole in my pocket, but is it worth it? I honestly believe so, otherwise the static would be for shit. There is a lot more to playing NIN, than Utsusemi, and just using the Elemental wheel, as some have already said.

I have read up on some NIN forums and have gotten many tips for being the best blink tank I can be. I am not the best tank for ALL situations, but I but I try my best to be the best for every situation regardless. I know that if not for having my Brother in the static as the BRD, I would have an even harder time with ACC and keeping hate, thank god for BRD's. :)

Wow, Wow, Wow....

Ok 1st off, Nin Tanks fuckin rock...With the right support...And the right PT setup....Just like any job...

Alright look, When they designed Nin, it was givin something that, like I've been saying for god knows how long, requires fellow PT members to give something that most people arn't willing to give. Time, effort, and some skill and fore-thought.

Simply put, a Nin is only as good as his Thf, as my best bud in game, Fharg, with whom I static'd with for 30 some odd levels between 30ish and 60ish, would tell you. Yes, I'm sorry Ninjitsu is NOT enough to "Grab" hate and hold it, nor is Vok and melee and WSs.

This is all balanced on that same ideal that no one wants to be bothered with. Hate control. Battle can be a very wonderful and beautiful thing if done right. I personaly love the art of battle and the dance that can be so wonderfully played if all PTs concerned were willing to put forth the effort. Sadly this isn't the case and most would say "I just want XP". Fine then continue not to invite me to your PT cause if your idea of leveling up involves chasing around a rabid caterpiller for 5 mins while it drags the whm's lifeless body in it's mouth like a ragdoll drooling all over it, then you can have your XP!

Simply stated that you have to be willing to cater to your Nin tanks needs as much as "OMgG!!!11 WE Ned teh RDm too wiin!!111oneone!". You can't expect fast, consist, hard core, non-stop Exp that a Nin can bring and not give him any help in bringing that to the table.

So just a piece of advice, before you ask the Nin to PT, Make sure you invite a Thf and a Rng or a Thf and a Sam/war to the Pt 1st. Otherwise, your asking "Hey can you come PT in the CN, we really don't want exp, but we would rather sit and yell at you about how you can't hold hate while we wait for a raise and the Drk and Drg can laugh about how they pulled hate and how uber they are".

Simply put, give your Melee the same attention that you give your mages. Otherwise, invite a Pld and ask me to melee so I can sub Rng or something.

U dont need to do the elemental wheel to keep hate... atleast not for me.When i have a thief in party and i use raiton on a crawler and then kurayami and blind i dont have to do anything else to keep hate.In some cases too much hate is not always good cuz then its hard to cast ichi.

Now this is where it takes some skill and comunication.

1) Rng pulls and holds mob until SATA is done. (Or Sam(Subtank) vokes until SATA is done)

2) Nin should be able to hold hate until SC is primed, as far as re-casts, learn how to time and beat your Rdm and Whm until they learn how to help enfeeble so you can cast properly.

3) SC's should be easy as long as you picked a good subtank and the communication is good. Example, as soon as the Nin sees:

Rng: TP 180% Slugshot ready!
Thf: TP 125% Dancing Edge ready!
Nin: (Too him/her self) Don't voke, don't voke, don't voke...

Ok, this is where Nin and Pld's differ, a Nin with a good Thf MAY be able to hold hate Vs a Drg or Drk, but for the most Part can have just the right amount of hate stripped to turn the mob. If they like it or not with an uber Rng or melee!

Pld are all about getting and holding Hate ALL BATTLE. This is nice and safe but can severly gimp the battle times and cause longer waits cause Mages use up MP and things of this nature.

So really, depending on your PT set up and what your looking for, you really need to build your PT around the Nin and not around yoru Whm or Rdm.

ok, heres the thing with nin tanks, as it pertains to me. I'm a monk. i spend days lfg, sitting there polishing my very expensive gear that i obviously have ample time to farm for. so when i do get a party, i really, and i mean really, want to impress these people. and i can. i can do terrifying things to mobs, DPS like no other job, and at my mid-40's level, i have the most damaging weaponskill in the level range. i also outdamage most other melle at that level and hold my own even against the big boys. the problem for me is what this thread is about: crappy ninjas. I cant function at 100% if there is a crappy ninja tanking. i can punch. thats IT. i cant zerk, i cant ask for haste, i cant use focus for some mean tp gain, about all i can do is use dodge, which i do every chance i get, because even just punching without haste, the mob STILL turns on me about 20 seconds into the fight. what am i supposed to do, stand there?!?! Ive pted with good ninjas, ninjas who knew their shit, i know damn well i dont have to slow down like that, i dont have to keep myself in check, You just cant do your job. The best ninja ive ever ptd with is a guy named Magno. i havent seen him around, but damn, that boy was sick. a ninja showed up to the pt next to us wearing def gear, ryl sqrs chain and whatnot, magno looks over and says "what a pussy, he needs a gi like mine. You rely on def, you get sloppy." that boy would have tanked naked if we'd let him. Pride. have some. BE LIKE MAGNO. im gonna erect a damn statue of magno in norg, so all the little wannabe ninjas can see it, its gonna be buck-ass naked and right in front of it is gonna be the exoray he blinked solo for 4 whole minutes while everyone zoned. The only time i pulled hate off him was when i hit zerk and focus on raging fists and topped 600 on a damn crawler, and he had that bitch back on him with 2 ni debuffs and a voke, i got hit maybe 10 times in 3 hours. as opposed to most nins these days where im basically tanking 70% of the time, and downtime out the ass due to my 1k hp and the whole 4 hits it takes to drop me to red. Melees DO NOT need to hold back if the nin is good enough, except for just plain stupid things like dont pull with barrage and "hold on, did that Ranger just use.......berserk?? wtf is he subbed warr? oh well, dead ranger"
a bad ninja holds back his dd's, making xp suck, letting aggro go the wrong way, causing in the case of a monk HUGE mp expenditure to avoid deaths, causing massive downtime losing chain FUCKING 2!!, causing slower pulls, meaning in heavy traffic camps you lose mobs to better groups, lowering xp in so many ways that even a nin/warr, if they suck, is as much an xp leech as a nin/drg.

BE LIKE MAGNO!!!!
