So Im camping Mysticmaker Profblix down in the old maze, been down there for about an hour and a half. The ugly bastard pops, right next to me no less, and I immediatly target him and start spamming provoke.

Nothing...

Nothing...

Nothing...

Claimed!

...by the Thief who had about 3 or 4 full seconds to run across the room and nab him. I heard rumours about not being able to claim NMs for a few seconds after they pop, but since I hate research, I never looked it up to see if it was true.

So, was it the fact my macro read /ja "Provoke" <bt> ...?
Or was it because of the delay? If it's the delay, I think that's dumb as hell.

Anybody else have any problems with this?

Btw, I didn't think this was a Flame, or Good Times, so I didn't know where else to put it. Sorry mods if I'm in the bad.

Yes there is a delay, my usual tactic (coming from a mage) is Dia as soon as I can, cast (& spam) Dia till the NM is mine :D

Kinda sucks about mystic, I remember camping him when the CC had the earring, and weren't helping anyone.... Just camping for profit.

I honestly wouldn't be upset (if you can call it that right now) if I had lost the claim legit, but once again... SE tries to "fix" something and it ends up hurting more than helping.

I dunno, has this new "delay" actually helped anyone? It apparently helped that THF who had time to run across the room and get the claim on me -.-

Yeah.... I think it was to kinda stop botters or something, but it's just generally a pain in the ass.

I spose you could try /ra <t>, that might give you a little delay, enough to combat the delay of the NM :S

Good luck I spose, I'm a little rusty on claiming NMs for speed, having camped a few lottery spawns it's more lax. Although I did claim enke as he was spawning with a stun, so I don't know really, it's kinda strange.

also, this isnt known that well, but if you try to claim too fast you may have a lil delay on ur next provoke attempt:
pop
provoke
wait 1.3
provoke rdy

It happens if you press it the exact second it spawns. If you're a mage you'll get "casting is interrupted." but that's only happened once in the 40+ NM's I've camped.. not any to REALLY judge but.. just wait a second, then go. /ja got nerfed hard.. still easy if you time it.
/wait 1
/ja "Provoke" <t>

Sorry to hear about it, Excim. However, I thought <bt> only targeted the monster that was in red, not so much the actual target. Should try <t>.

Just hit it once...

/ja provoke <t>
/wait 1
/ja provoke <t>
/wait 1
/ja provoke <t>
/echo End.
It looks like /ma and /ra is not effected by the "nerf" that
was done to provoke... Neither is steal...

Good hunting!

Not true... I tried camping Mee Deggi (O-Kote guy) once not too long ago, cast /ma "Flash" on it right after it spawned, reset Flash's timer, Summoners got the claim. He like just walked in too. I /check him after he claims it, and he's got about 20,000,000g worth of stuff in his bazaar alone, and that was back a couple months ago. By now, the stuff he's got has got to be worth like 200mil. Atleast from what I remember.

<bt> will voke the target. Doesn't need to be red.

Didn't think so. It had been a while since I used my PLD macros, so I was curious.

On a side note, I have a voke macro on each macro cluster. One of them it <bt> the other is <t>. That way, in normal party use I could easily mash voke no matter where I was in a macro cluster. And if there was a link, I could easily voke the one I wanted to with the <t> voke.

Worked for me pretty well for the better part of 70 levels.

Yeh, as already said...any JA (magic included) won't execute if you target too soon..Steal still works, stupidly >< gilsellers now go and about 10s before before pop then just run to it and Steal (dunno how they even do that, if the mob's moving at all I can't ever get Steal to execute)

Anyone find it funny that they're implemented this changes months eirlier but removed it because it effected normal mobs too?

And Excim, best sig ever. =P

Thank you Ish, MegaTokoyo for the win.

What's funnier, is this has been going on for quite some time, and I am now just getting to understand this crap.

So... should I spam Flash? Shield Bash? Just run up and attack it??? :(

Count to one slowly or 2 fast before hitting a voke macro if it just freshly popped.

I dunno if this will help you with your claiming, because I am pretty sure the delay rule still applies. But my fiance camps Spook ALOT - that's really our main source of gil (shhh), and he has found a very effective way to get claim and I don't think he has ever NOT got it because of the new delay setting.

He is a DRK and he subs BST so he can charm the mob. He usually does this as soon as he sees it pop, and as far as I know he has never had a problem not getting the claim due to delay. There have been instances where someone else saw it first because they were closer, but other than that he does claim it ALOT.

I'm not sure if the topic of /BST Charm claiming has been brought up or not in these forums, but through our experience it works pretty well. Also, he goes /anon so the people counter-claiming him are pretty caught off guard when they see him Charm it. That's just my input on the subject. Opinions could differ though....

NOW I BETTER NOT SEE ANY OF YOU CAMPING THE SPOOK WITH /BST ANYTIME SOON!! lol

(just kidding ^ - if you didn't catch that...)

The delay effects all job abilities and spells from my experience... even trying to do ranged attack immediately when the mob pops will sometimes result in being interrupted.

LooooooooooooooooooooL @ everyone telling him to spam.

Scwall and I claimed Sozu Rogberry....maybe 100 times in the past few months.

Please listen. Do not use a macro. Only claim from your menu, otherwise randomly targetting will highlight other players. Targetting from the menu will only target monsters (it is much easier to target)

Using a Job Ability/Magic "too early" will result in a 2-3 second "cool down time" where you cannot use that ability/spell. This will only happen if you claim too quickly. The window of time where you can claim "too quickly" is completely random. You'll find out why my methods work well, as you read.

Some people say spamming Ranged Attack with Darts is succesfull....However Scwall and I proved that wrong.

The best way to claim.

Watch the monster pop.

DO NOT TARGET IT WHEN IT POPS!! (Remember the samurai event?)

After 0.5-1.5sec, provoke/flash/dia or whichever you have.

Please listen now, this is the most important part.

Have -another- means of claiming to be ready on the spot, this will save your ass if you claim too quickly.

1. Only claim from you ability/magic menu.

2. Go to your job abilities menu - highlight Provoke

3. Since you're PLD and I'm DRK. Go to your magic menu - highlight Flash (or Stun in my case)

4. Go back to your Provoke menu

5. Provoke the mob/NM 0.5 seconds after it pops (almost immediatly)

6. RIGHT AFTER your provoke - go to your Magic menu and Flash ASAP

7. Enjoy the fight and whatever drops.

The most important thing about this, is the time between your Provoke and Flash.
If your provoke is too early, you will have enough time to cast Flash.

The transition between your Job Abilities menu & Magic menu should be no more than 1 second. Otherwise you'll most likely be outclaimed. It requires quick fingers.

For an example:

THF has the best claiming methods now IMO. Everyone thinks Dia is "too fast" etc, but that is a load of crap.

Flee (when monster is about to pop) and line up Steal&Mug right next to each other on their menu.
