There is a website out there called nogold.org, founded to couteract the secondary virtual currency market.

It's an interesting site, to me anyway. They do recognize that hosting a popular site can get expensive, and that gold seller ads bring in cash. They do say gold sellers are bad, and they do not offer any solution on what webmasters can do other than saying "We do not support gold sellers!" and not taking their ad revenue.

In their defense, they do started hosting a couple sites for free.

Interesting development anyway, I will be closely watching where it is going.

Somewhere on there I read that one of the benefits of joining them is that you get to display a cool logo, and all I can say to that is that the logo sucks.

I know this is an odd place to proclaim this viewpoint (This being a popular fansite and all) but: If one can't afford to run a website without selling your soul, then one shouldn't try do it. There's nothing wrong with advertisements, but GoldSeller ads rank right up there with ads for online casinos and bondage porn in terms of respectability.

On the other hand, I feel that anyone who's ever deliberately clicked on any web advertisement intending to buy something... is a... I'm trying to think of a non-Flameboard way to say this. I'm sure you get the drift.

Oh, and personally, I think being paid to play World of Warcraft for 12 hours a day would rock my socks. :P

I wrote in the January Newsletter why there are no more gil seller ads on QCDN, there is a thread in General Discussion about it.

What's wrong with bondage pr0n?

12 hours a day WoW, sure I am in, but not for $12 in wages, and not while sitting in an unconditioned poorly ventilated room with a dozen other sweaty dudes.
