I have a question. I'm not going to mention any names to keep this from turning into a flame in accordance with the new rules.

I'm standing in Beadeux, Helpin a friend get a Coffer Key. It's me and 3 others huntin quadavs. Someone walks up up and asks if we're looking for a key. We say yes, and he asks if he can join. We say "No". He says "well screw you" and what not.

I proceed to tell him we are getting one key and leaving. we'd been there a while and a couple of us were about to crash, that's why we said no.

So he says "I hope you don't care if I counter camp you". I say "Does it really matter?"

He countercamps with a friend. We are killing about 6 or 7 to thier one. That's all well and good. They are barely noticeable. Then they pull a Blm quadav and one of them dies. I throw cures at the other one. A member of my party "Shakes with laughter" when the guy died. and he proceeds to talk smack to him about not having a bunch of lvl 75 people to help him do everything. What he doesn't realize is he's talking smack to my roomate. Then immediatly says to me "Can I ahve a raise please?" I raise him. He thanks me. Then I tell him he's still an ass hole. In /say.

There is more to the story really, but it all came after the fact of us not helping him. The point to this story is to ask a question not to start a flame and get this topic locked.

Were we in the wrong for not helping this guy with his key? Or was he just being a tool?

If he was being an ass, then no, you didnt do anything wrong... you dont have to help, only out of courtesy do you, so no worries it's not like you did anything wrong, and besides you even raised the guy when he was talkin shit about ur roomie, and that's more than I woulda done^^

You gave him a justifiable reson not to help him, I have had it happen before, where you are almost done and some more people come and join you making what should have been one more drop become 2-3 more drops. Normaly I don't mind but if its late or what not...

He acted immature, but you should have explained to him that you've been camping for a while and wanted to sleep soon. You planned on getting that key and calling it quits. If he was immature after that, I'd say he was wrong. He he said "I understand, but if you get the key quickly would you mind giving me just 15 more minutes of help?" then that would be different. However, the immaturity issue was the case and thus you are not in the wrong. I respect the mature handlings of it so much more, so if someone handled something maturely that is fair to you and asks for a little bit but not a lot, then yeah. that's different.

When the member in your PT "Shaked with laughter" because the guy died, he did the wrong thing. We can't celebrate the fact that another person had a bad moment. If, we are in the process of making this a better server.

He was a bad sport because he took your "I can't help you" personaly. But the laugh after they had a bad moment infuriated him. Still, he made his bed when he told you "well screw you". When you Raised him you showed who the better man was.

You guys had plans and he didn't fit in with them.
Your "team" was there for each other. There was no obligation to help some rando.

He did, and I do believe that that's a valid reason to say no. Trippy was even nice enough to give the guy a raise. Some people wouldn't have even done that.

Tool.

Now my turn to question you. Why the hell did you raise him? i would have watched with great satisfaction while he had to either HP or sit at his PC for half an hour or more waiting for a friend to come (assuming he has friends).

Idk maybe i just hold a grudge but i know i sure as hell wouldn't raise someone who had been rude to me and friends of mine, for no reason other than that you were tired and didn't feel like helping out some stranger.

A few points.

This guy wasn't a stranger. He was someone I was already at odds with from previous experiences.

Also, the guy who "Shook with laughter" says he's entiled to do so after the whole "Help me?" "No." "**** you guys then, I'm campin on top of you".

We also kept the other guy alive after his friend died. We offered to kill it for him.

Hi everyone :)

I think you were totally, 100% in the right in your reasoning. As I'm only just now coming into the levels where I can be of some marginal help with coffers in Beastman areas like Beadeaux, I'd like to present a hypothetical situation and how I'd consider going about handling it.

Let's say that we have:

Team #1(one or two higher level folks, and one or two coffer hunters), and

Team #2(much the same setup)

Now then, Team #1 has been in place and killing for a while when Team #2 shows up and like in Trippy's situation, they ask if they can join you.

Would anyone find it unreasonable if Team #1 agreed to join forces on the following conditions:

A) Team #1 is in charge and gets the first key(s) that drops for their hunter(s).

B) Team #1 isn't under any obligation to remain after their keys drop. If Team #2 lacks the strength to kill efficiently on their own, then they'll just have to wait until they're better prepared.

The reason I ask this is mainly because, even though there doesn't appear to be any benefit to team #2 in this example, what it's doing, in my opinion, is helping the first team get their drops and clear out faster. And since Team #1's hunters stand a good chance of remaining in the area to hunt the coffer, they could provide assistance to the other guys(say, the occasional Raise, stopping to help with a kill while passing through, etc.). And even if the first team vacates entirely, they still stand zero chance of becoming CCs to Team #2. Well . . . except when it comes to the actual coffer, but that's another can of worms . . .

Also, I've often wondered whether or not larger groups increase chances for drops, since the only way I can conceive of TH having an effect on drop rates is if each party member individually gets some sort of base percentage chance of "pulling" an item from that mob's drop list.

I know my example is very pie-in-the-sky idealistic, but nonetheless, if my understanding of drops holds water, I think it presents the best of both worlds by obligating no one, yet still benefitting all.

talking about imature I was lvling Drg in the dunes once we had a fairly decent party going, There was a High lvl bst Farming rocksalt which was ok because we were doing pugs near the boat at the time...One of the members claims to have known the Bst and said she was a Account Buyer and proceeded to /shout account buyer at her.... I politely asked him to stop which he did...Next thing I know the bst pulls a gobby into our camp and a friend that was with her sleeps it, it wakes up so they sleep it again, they did that a few times trying to get the gobby to MPK us, I sent her a /tell tell her to please stop that her problem is with one person in the party and she's taking it out on everyone, she proceed to tell me that she wasn't trying to MPK us it was the kid that called her a account buyer..I don't think that's right because if he gets killed it's gonna turn on use also most likely...again I ask her to stop and she refuses, I threated to call a GM if she didn't stop but she still refused until the guy in my party said he was sorry (which he refused so I had to tell him to appologize or I would have to boot him from party but he still refused) I couldn't find a decent replacment so I asked her very nicely to please stop which she did...

I think we all know this was just a clever way to get something that once would have gone to the Flameboard through, legitimately. {Good job!}

In answer to your question, though, no ... anyone who would literally expect you to make room for them just because they need the same thing as you is being obnoxious. I'd go so far as to say it would have been excessively kind of you to do so.

I don't think anyone will disagree with you on this. This guy was just belching up some sour grapes. I think you knew all of that when you asked, though.

It was an entertaining story. Thank you for sharing it.

Yes, this was an "interesting" situation. He asks, we say no, and "Well f you, I hope you don't mind us camping on top of you."

The light side of the situation, it was a whm and a rdm vs. pld | mnk | blm | rdm

Exactly. This way all parties involved can see it from everyones point of view. I think I was very fair in the post and accuratly described the situation. Time will tell.

Beaudeux key is bad enough, I would probably have refused him to my party too. I also would not have raised him after that attitude.

I don't think you guys were required to let those other dudes join. I don't think the other dudes should have been pricks about it either.

I do think that there will never be entitlement to gloat over the misfortune of another, it's a low thing to do imho.

Good on you for trying to keep them alive and raising them after. ;)

"They" weren't pricks about it. Just one guy was kinda assholish for no reason. The other guy was quite nice.

Idk maybe you are just a nice guy but i still stand by letting the guy who lived (unless i am mistaken the nice guy) live and leaving the gimp (i assume the guy who died) remain dead and laugh at his pain until your sides hurt.

Also your pie-in-the-sky view (this is directed at Reauland) is not only pie in the sky but a tad ignorant for probability (although if anyone disagree feel free to correct me)

There is X chance of this item dropping. Now the new group A can join group B who are leaving after their drop. So they can either hope that the extra two party members makes two keys drop of do the smarter thing and pray for chance X to work in their favour.

Also the guy appears to be an ass so i would be willing to bet large money that had trippy allowed the guy to join he would have bet on the first key that dropped and then left had he won, and if he didn;t win say "opps hit the wrong button" and pass.

And again...why did you raise such an utter waste of space!?!
