Not All Arguments and heated Discussions are FLAMES

Wow, I really am appalled by the fact that you guys honestly think I was flaming Cohibu. :?

Just goes to show that no one here actually knows what a flame is. Anywhere else would eat you alive for even considering "You're an idiot, quit being selfish" a flame.

Even when you find the person's views questionable, how is, "You're an idiot," not a flame?

Attack the views, not the person if it's a constructive argument.

It still isn't a flame. A flame is a post made in anger, sponging anger from other readers/posters. Thats why a lot of people find this flameboard so tame. "omg this pt I had sucked one person didn't know what they were doing!" isn't exactly flame enough to be successful

No amount of justification can label what I said a flame, since none of it was a) in anger, or b) to rile someone up.

Again, learn what a Flame is before labeling something that.

Semantics aside, it's just not constructive argument to try to make something personal and not about the issues. It may get people to agree with you or make the other person look bad, but at the end of the day, you aren't "proving" anything, just persuading people with language. "You're an idiot, quit being selfish" isn't argumentation; "Your view fails to account for X,Y,Z," or "Your view has internal contradictions" is.

If you don't want to bother to argue well on an online board, I totally understand and think that's fine.

Anyway, I think your criterion are probably good enough for an online board. But if someone does get riled, even if you didn't mean for them too -- and let's face it, that's more likely over the internet -- then you're still accountable for what you said.

So if you got frustrated with someone's views and typed, "You're an idiot, quit being selfish," that's a pretty solid way to close down any kind of effective communication from any but the most patient of people.

It was warranted. But if you want to take it back up, by all means make a topic here.

Did you even read the crap he was posting?

He was just spewing out selfish drivvle in a thread about cutting people some slack.

Comments like "With low af2 chance, what good is Dynamis? 3hr time sink and exp loss?", "maybe I'm the only one who does worthless missions."

Comments like that in a thread asking for generousity. I didn't start of calling him an idiot, only after I tried to get my point through his thick skull that if he wants to be so selfish in a social-based game, then he should be playing something else. Yet, he still showed how selfish he is, posting that he'll sell currency at 12k, when Elemmire asked to keep offers 7k and under.

I'm not defending anyone else, nor am I passing judgment on whether he ought to have offered something above the limit requested or his views on Dynamis. I personally like to be as generous as I can with my time without handing someone my character's foot (I would, but I use it for kick attacks).

I'm just saying that the if the only distinction between flame and not is author's intent, then I don't care about the definition. I still think that name-calling detracts from good arguments you may have made (like your socially-based game one), and while it may win you cheerleaders, it isn't likely to persuade your target.

Since it seems you had given up on persuading your target, I don't see why you bothered continuing the conversation.

really who gives a damn... There was some pertinent information in between all the crap postings of personal flames and whatnot, that alone warrants that it shouldnt be locked deleted.

Unfortunately as this site increases in membership the quality of posts has taken a nosedive into subpar quality overflowing with post counters and irrelevant posters derailing threads for their own personal pleasure who dont care what the topic was. Instead of moderation Id just like to ban some people that post nothing but bullshit personally, or at a minimum just delete their posts.

I always figured a REAL flame is when someone cleaverly and humorusly insults another person and thus leading others to say things such as, "OOHH BURN!".

I'm going to make a new thread here in the flameboard auctioning stuff, and Cubs and Asiamise better not move/delete it, cause I made it so it's MY thread not THEIRS.

Techincally, they can't delete it. Regardless of being the flameboard or not. There isn't anything wrong with the post, it's just in the wrong section.

Tell me where in that description it says "close topics because you deem them closable," a moderator is a peace keeper. Should they fail, they really have no reason to close the thread unless requested by the original poster(unless the OP is no longer capable of requesting) or if it goes too far, bringing in racial, sexual, and/or religious insults.

Only Pupusa really should have power to close threads without warning.

I do believe Tiya was bein' sarcastic there Skaw. And Deci, as usual, you stick your nose in where it doesn't belong. It was Ele's thread not yours. It's up to her to decide if she wants to bitch about it imo.

Lastly, I agree with Veteran, that whole thread turned into one big ass fuss about whether or not coins should be 5k or 12k or whatever. Good grief, sometimes I wish you guys would grow up a tad more  .

Should or shouldn't is irrelevant. They ARE 12k. :P

And again, wether it's 5k or 12k is irrelevant. Elemmire was asking people to be kind enough to sell them at a rudeced cost to her, Phraust, and Cythe because they want those weapons.

That doesn't mean toss up what their going rate is for, but rather be generous and give some slack to three people who are actually working towards their weapons.

I think we should all agree that coins about 1,000,000/# of coins dropped = f*ckin greedy :D

No, it was a serious offer. Read the thread again. Reduced has nothing to do with it. 5k IS reduced, but to them that's merely "reasonable." It therefore was not an attempt at getting a deal. It was a lame attempt at making an offer.

pere.. when I meant reasonable.. I meant around 7k-10k atleast :\ 5k is my desired price but I'm not gonna be insane about it at this point.

Reasonable is market price. Next time I see a 1-coin in jeuno for 7-10k, I'll take a screenshot of it. Don't expect one. Ever.
