I'm working on a evasion set for my ninja and currently I think that I might be using too much evasion(stat) compared to evasion(skill) and it is my understanding that if you use too much stat with not enough skill its pointless. Anyways I can't see myself using combat skill merits on evasion so my skill is 269. my gear looks like this: http://ffxigear.com/?ref=15847 and as you can all see my DD/haste capabilities suffer greatly from using so much evasion gear.

long and short of it is, I need information on how exactly evasion works if there is any out there or I'll take advice if you can back it up. thanks.

Basically, no one really knows for sure. I personally stack evasion skill as much as possible, then fill the rest with just regular evasion. If you're going to wear evasion gear, you pretty much have to go all out or don't even bother. It's hard, but you really just have to ignore haste and DD stats, for the most part.

You'll need to swap in your haste gear right after you hit your utsu:ni macro, then switch straight back to evasion gear, because of the lack of haste gear that you shouldn't be wearing. I think you're ok with byakko's and fuma's in those two slots, but you might want to swap your earrings for two elusive earrings, or if you hang out with a bard, get melody earring+1's. If you're feeling really saucy, you could even go with two agi rings.

If you're fighting something that really needs you to be wearing that much evasion gear, then you will most likely be with other people. In those situations, it helps to rely on them a bit to buff you to make up for the lack of haste and dd capabilities (ie, mambo/ninja roll, haste, etc). Slow and steady typically works when you need to evade that much. The more/faster you attack, the more tp the mob gets, which means it can do more things to take your shadows before the cool downs are done.

1skill = 1 evasion, and there is more evasion gear than evasion skill gear. also 2AGI= 1 evasion. Now you shouldnt sacrifice haste for evasion so keep turban , duk and swift belt, but get two elusive earrings, two agi+4/5 earrings. keeep hands head belt leg feet for an Oshit set though.

Besides 2 AGI = 1 evasion, or is otherwise commonly accepted, 2 AGI also = more frequent evasion and parrying. Personally, I like keeping a good bit of AGI stacked in with a FULL evasion (Oh Shit!) set. Not talking about hybrid haste/evasion sets, but rather the evasion set you are asking about. As mdk said, you can get an elusive earring. I like one of those (or ethereal, even better) and an evasion (skill) earring. Legs and feet could obviously be adjusted to add in more evasion. Emissary boots come to mind...Ring slots could be swapped as well. Again, just speaking to a full evasion set, not a hybrid.

Gear swap macros are there for a good reason, and I like to take advantage of them including a full evasion set as well as a hybrid. I have one macro that swaps in most of the imeediate need to have evasion gear and keeps most of the solid haste pieces, and another that swaps in all the extras that essentially make you nearly untouchable. And those extra pieces do make a difference. Whether or not you feel like lugging the shit around is another story. You could always make the 2nd macro, and only carry certain pieces of it as well.

Or, use macros.
Wear your full evasion set when you need to evade, and swap to haste for the split second you need it when you cast. Then, press your macro that puts your eva gear back on.

Rocket surgery.

Look at the thread Jojojo made about Agi role in evasion there a few gear set-ups there. Honestly I dont even use an evasion set now, if my shadows are down I switch to a defense set with a lil haste.

The good pieces for evasion skill also have other bonuses. Look at Boxer's and Emissary Boots, they both have parry skill as well.

So between the mantle/boots/torque there isn't much other + skill you can use outside of earring which is silly since you can get more evasion + on other earrings.

And in all honesty, use a haste macro for your casting, and swap back to evasion. Your role as Evasion Ninja is to not get hit as much as possible. Don't worry about losing haste for DD, so unless you have cure support to speed up your DD while losing your greased-up-butt-evasion, it's not worth it.

This !

If you are fighting a mob where evasion could actually make a difference on more than 1/100 attacks then haste/dd gear wont be worth the loss of evasion, you'll be missed enough to not worry about shadows, and they won't get the luxery of tp spamming you.

Agree with Langly and Blaze. If you are going for evasion, then by all means go all out on it and put haste on a side.

A while back there was a test for evasion skill vs evasion from allakhazam, the result as quite interesting as it shows +evasion > +evasion skill. The test wasn't conclusive as it was conducted on T steelshells, but it did suggest evasion > evasion skill, or for thief at least.

For me, i just have my utsu macro like:

/ma "utusemi: ichi" <me>
/wait 3
*equip all haste gears + fill rest with evasion"*

then macro all evasion gears back

I suppose I should have better explained the context. I usually do most events in full haste DD unless I think I actually have a chance to keep hate, or even evade anything if I did. This was more to the effect of trying to solo difficult mobs like Kreutzet as Nin/Dnc or something. And yes, I have a full haste/evasion/DR set for my utsu macro already. Keep the advice coming though.

I think this is a good solo set-up..

Main: Unji
Sub: Unsho
Range: Ungur
Ammo: -
Head: Optical Hat/W.Turban
Neck: Evasion Torque
Ear1: Brutal
Ear2: Suppanommi
Body: Scorp+1
Hand: Seiryu's/Dusk
Ring1: Rajas Ring
Ring2: Sniper(+1)
Back: Boxer's Mantle
Waist: Survival//Speed Belt/Swift Belt
Legs: Byakko's
Feet: Fuma/Enkindu's

I would disagree with the weapon for soloing because while faster those blades will do less dmg, lower WS and feed the mob more TP in the process (yes, I know they have subtle blow on them but the numbers too low to make a real difference)

Soloing weapons? Can't go wrong with Mamu+1 x 2.
