NPC Players camping right on top of beastmasters

You know, I wouldn't care if NPC's killed a "few" of the mobs I'm fighting. I could be happy with a chain #4 or even #2 if I'm just taking it easy. The thing that pissed me off like no other is that two days ago they killed my EM raptor (which was owning the shit outta mobs) and yesterday they killed my EM Manta (which also owns the shit outta shit). You just don't kill a bst's EM pets and expect a warm welcome. You just don't... It took me a good 2 hours to make those.

I think SE should make it where the NPC can be aggro'd like a player would. So that they couldn't just run around carelessly, or their NPC would die.

I think that's about the best idea I've heard in a long time.

However, don't bitch about this if someones is already there, and you just arrived wanting to exp.
Just to clarify, if anybody is already there, I ask to team up, or I leave.

First come, first serve. I don't barge in on anyone's activity. But I don't leave if someone else comes in. That said, I don't cause trouble by npc'ing or farming in the standard party zones. I don't think I'd be wrong to do so, if I was there first, but that's a minority oppinion. The rule seems to be Party>Bst>NPC/Farming. I'll honor it where I can, but I won't bend over backwards to accomodate you. To be quite honest, I don't know where everyone of every level levels. I know the standard EXP spots, a few alternate places for key levels, and that Bsts level in Altepa (from reading flames about NPC use). People need to get over themselves. You aren't that important. If someone is using an area for any reason, whatever your reason for coming in second might be isn't important enough to make someone leave. I mean really, with standard exp zones, alternate exp zones, beastmaster zones - where do you people want us to level our npcs? There's really no zone where you won't step on *someone's* toes. I'll make an effort not to ask for trouble when I pick a place to use my npc, and I won't be an ass and go to work right on top of someone else, but if I get to a relatively unused zone that you decide you have more a right to (maybe coming into the zone just for the fun of trying to kick other people out?), you'll be met with indifference.

At least do a search to see if a beastmaster is there IF it's a tight area. For instance, the altepa deserts ARE NOT tight areas. NPC's, BST's, and EXP parties can all get along. Ulluguran Range is NOT a tight area, but there are only a few places where BST's camp.

It's forgivable that you may not know these unless you've leveled bst to 60, but live and learn when you can.

Last night I was on a tight little strip in Sea Serpent Grotto behind the gold door. I wasn't roaming hardly at all as there was aggro in all directions. If you see a bst in a location like that, get the hell out. There are other spots for you. Hell, there was a plethora of mobs just south of me, but these pricks just had to kill my Sahagins and my EM manta pet. AND they saw that there was a BST duo exping there.

Now really, how insensitive can you be? If you're that bad you really need to learn some manners.

Honestly I don't so much mind if NPC levelers are in the same area as me. What bothers me is when there are other types of mobs that I'm not hunting in the area, and they still kill off all my pets and prey.

Uleguerand Range for example. I primarily attack the tigers, using the bunnies as pets. Occasionally I'll fight the snoll that pops on the upper level. Instead of them moving to the lower level and figthing the Buffalo (Which I wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole at my level, those bastard are tough), they just destroy everything around me so I'm left with one pet (if I"m lucky) and no tigers to fight.

Same thing in CN. Despite the fact that a 30 second walk away is a room full of Rumbe crawlers and wespes (That are only DC to me at 61 and not worth me exping on) they stay in the room I'm in and kill everything. I ask them if we can share the area and usually I don't get a response, they just keep killing. I either leave or log out, it's rediculous.

Kari is right too, it isn't just an issue with BST's, it's an issue with parties across all levels. At least twice I've heard friends complaining about the NPC levelers who moved in on their camp in Boyahada Tree and killed all their prey, forcing them to either leave the area or settle with shitty exp.

I do have to commend those few NPC levelers who are going to out of way areas (like the far back area of CN where I exp as BST) because they're at least showing an effort to avoid exp parties, but at the same time they could stand to be a bit more courtious when someone else is there first, rather than just killing everything. I honestly don't see what their justification is.

Strange, for once BST's and Parties are in agreement over something like this. Even though I'd say that the mentality behind the NPC leveler camping on top of a BST/Party is the same that parties employ when they camp on top of a BST. That isn't the debate however, so I"m not gonna open that can of worms.

I've seen only one NPC leveller in CN thus far who was actually considerate of others. This guy was using his NPC to help him fight Guardian Crawler. I thought that was really cool, and a good idea besides. You get xp for your NPC, it's a spawn pop that's claimed to you from the get-go, and you get some good farming done in the process.

Everyone else I've seen has been a prick, ranging on scale from minor to colossal. One night we tried to XP in the far back region of CN, but were forced out when about 15 minutes after we'd set up camp three NPC levellers came by and cleared out every single spawn in all three rooms adjoining our camp. We ended up moving to the donut room and fighting T's (as a duo, which really sucks) just until we got enough xp to wear off our empress rings and calling it a night after that cause the xp was so crappy.

Here's what I've always wondered though, and my duo partner Rappa asks the same question: what the hell is the purpose of the NPC's? I'm serious. You level them, but for what reason? What the fuck do you do with them besides level them and waste time you could be leveling your own toon in a job? I can understand playing around with them in Rolanberry or whatever while you're LFG, but those people who go out of their way to xp their NPC's . . . why? Seriously, what are you gonna do with it once it's levelled to the cap?

I level my NPC occasionally (still only level 36), and I don't think I've EVER trod upon anyone else's XP. I like to find nice out of the way places to XP, and/or mobs that nobody is trying to xp off of. Usually both, just to be sure.

As for why, that's an easy answer. My NPC lets me fight things that might otherwise kill me. I keep him on Healer type, he's a Taru, and the little bastard mocks my pain by warning me that he's almost out of MP... when he still has more than I do max. ></)

LOL!
That little bitch. I have always enjoyed the diologue I share with my NPC counterparts in any online game. That particular line reminds me of the ".hack" series where you kept having to hear them bitch about status ailments. I swear, if they were real people like they were pretending to be, I would be behind bars right now.

I'm not even going to go into what I went into tonight. If you bring an NPC near me from now on, you will die... I don't give a shit if you lose 3000 exp, if you bring your npc near me you're as good as dead...

And don't even try to get me to forgive the behavior of the npc players. fuck them. I will mpk any npc who comes within 100 yards of me.

I was in an exp party with my BST (yes, party =P highest DD AND tank, rawr) and while pulling I saw at different times I saw at LEAST four people levelling their NPC off Soldier Crawlers in that circular tunnel connected to the hidden room. Really screwed exp for my party and the others there (other party was forced to go with flies, which went sortof slow for them..)

You must have read three sentences and formed a hasty oppinion. You didn't read the lines where I said if someone is already there, I won't intrude. If I get to a zone and a bst is there I wouldn't level my npc there. My post only said that if I was there first, I'm not leaving.

Sorry pomp. I wasn't targetting only you in the post. I was making more or less a general statement.

I've had a shitty ffxi bst week. Three straight days of this. I think I'm going to try to take a week or more off the game because I'm gonna get myself thrown in GM Jail if I don't.

Eh, it's ok. No worries. I have nothing but respect for Bsts, largely because I don't have what it takes to be one. Mine is still 18. I'm just defending NPC use because in my oppinion, they're the best thing SE has added in a long time.

I think the perfect solution would just be to make npcs gain xp in the same way that a real player does (for example, a lvl 30 npc fighting level 45 mobs with a lvl 75 player would get ZERO XP). I know it's just too late to fairly make this change now (because people have been doing it for so long) but it just makes logical sense to me that npcs should xp like normal players. Oh well.

Disagree on the basic fact that 1) if you'd want to level your NPC at any decent rate, you'd need a full part at the NPCs level. 2) You'd also take a 30% hit to your EXP while exping a job you, you know, want to exp.

People just need to learn what out of the way really means. Out of the way = Lost Souls/Demons in Xarcabard. Out of the Way means Wespes in Uggalepih. Out of the way means generally the entire zone of Ro'Maeve(if you can handle EP weapons, dolls, and pots solo, or in a group)

Out of the way could also equal goblins in oldtown/newtown movalpolis. That place is a bst nightmare. Well, bst can level in newtown, but I wouldn't want to.

I think NPC players should go out of their way to see if there is a bst in the area or if the mobs they are killing will have any effect on a nearbye bst. It is MUCH easier for an NPC player to move around than for an exp'ing bst to just change camp.

And I'm tired of people telling me "you should go to cape terrigan, ifrit's cauldron, den of rancor. kuftal tunnel is often used by NPC players now". I don't give a flying ****. If I was there first, you can move. If I wanted to go to Den of Rancor I would have gone to Den of Rancor.

And I'll be honest. Yesterday, I was killing spiders. I know that these are money mobs. I DO expect I'll have to share some of these with farmers and NPC's, but when a whole frickin army shows up and kills everything within a one mile radius, it pisses me off just a little bit.
