NPC Players camping right on top of beastmasters

<- sucks at the web

Out of the way has to be reasonable for NPC levellers that aren't level 75. I'm all for taking the path of least resistance. That said I also want my NPC to level. There's a reason "out of the way" zones are such. They suck in one way or another in mob choice. Parties have gravitated to the same sorts of mobs and zones for a reason. As a Blm, I'm finding my ability to adequately defend my level 51 scythe weilding attacker waning. I can no longer tank for her. She can't tank for me. I guess in terms of solo levelling my NPC, I'm kinda like a Bst - finding the perfect mob type is critical. My NPC favors (to my eminent dismay) the AOE ws Spinning Scythe, despite having the cooler Vorpal Scythe. My one attept to level in Kuftal Tunnel with her ended in disaster from such. I'm completely interested in non suicidal zones to level my NPC in, that won't really bother other players. Don't send me off to the 3rd gate of Garrilaige Citadel, or the depths of hell in Ifrit's Cauldron, but if people have fair and reasonable suggestions for players of non 75 level ranges, I'm sure people including myself would be all ears. I don't want to get a reputation for ruining people's exp, but I'm not going to crawl to the bottom of Eldiem Necropolis so that one party can get a chain 7 instead of just a chain 6.

But wouldn't you rather crawl to the bottom of <zone> if you had ALL the mobs and zero competition? As a bst, that's what I usually try to do. I'd expect the same from NPC's, and I'd really expect the same of farmers.

That sucks about your NPC using Spinning Scythe. Sorry. I had to lol at that.

Oh I would, believe me, if I could win. I'll be frank, there's not much I can solo. You might read stories of elite blms soloing VT mobs and such. Not me. I know what spells to cast in a party, and am perfectly adequate for that role. On my own, I'm a pretty sucky blm. Maybe when I get more self reliant as a player, I'll brave all the dangerous areas noone else goes to, for the reasons you mention. Right now, my avatar says it all. You pit me up against anything mightier than a tiny mandragora (not one of those level 2 psychos, I'm talking level 1), and I'm going down faster than (insert dirty joke here).

lol I'm the same way as blm. lvl 75, but about the biggest thing you'll see me solo right now is a decent challenge manticore in lab of ozozo. hehe. thus i got into beastmaster. i'm fearless as a beastmaster, but i'm a pansy assed blm. i mainly only pick on <too weak> elementals. no sky farming for me :)

Whenever I'm going to level my NPC, I try to choose some weird ass area, I started in Xarcabard and moved to western altepa on the north west side where no one ever exps, also, if I see any kind of exp PT or BST or coffer farming peopl (lately I've been going to Garlaige citadel) I ask them what mobs are they fighting to NOT kill them, in garlaige most people do beetles and bats so I take the skeletons and pots, if it's a coffer PT I just usually help them. If I see there is no way of me killing mobs and not affecting someone else I just leave and look for another area, I know how it feels to be on the other person's position. When I level BST in east altepa it does piss me off that many people are there taking on my EM pets with their NPC :|

It sounds like NA NPC players are a lot more sensitive than JP NPC players then... I dunno.

First come, first serve. I don't barge in on anyone's activity. But I don't leave if someone else comes in. That said, I don't cause trouble by npc'ing or farming in the standard party zones. I don't think I'd be wrong to do so, if I was there first, but that's a minority oppinion. The rule seems to be Party>Bst>NPC/Farming. I'll honor it where I can, but I won't bend over backwards to accomodate you. To be quite honest, I don't know where everyone of every level levels. I know the standard EXP spots, a few alternate places for key levels, and that Bsts level in Altepa (from reading flames about NPC use). People need to get over themselves. You aren't that important. If someone is using an area for any reason, whatever your reason for coming in second might be isn't important enough to make someone leave. I mean really, with standard exp zones, alternate exp zones, beastmaster zones - where do you people want us to level our npcs? There's really no zone where you won't step on *someone's* toes. I'll make an effort not to ask for trouble when I pick a place to use my npc, and I won't be an ass and go to work right on top of someone else, but if I get to a relatively unused zone that you decide you have more a right to (maybe coming into the zone just for the fun of trying to kick other people out?), you'll be met with indifference.

Xarcabard, castel O, Psxoja, Ever try the lvl cap areas like ravine site A or B ?
no one is ever there! and it's capped so you'll always get XP!

I'm not sure you can call your NPC in a lvl capped area. I know for a fact you cannot call them in a Promy (not counting the Rendevouz Point for the quest to get a Tactic Pearl) and you can't call the in Pso'Xja, so I don't think you can call them in either of the Riverne areas aswell.

not true.. I've seen quite a few people in promys with npcs.. I was like WTF .. then remembered the new dungeon update..

I'm GLAD my BST was 60+ before this mess started. BST was already extremely hard to level because of the farmers/ gil sellers / partys that would intrude on your camp all the time.. and now BST (and parties) have to put up with this.

I remember gettin a couple of levels in boyahda on spiders back in the day when it was a popular exp camp. NO ONE camps there anymore because everyone farms the spiders.. wtf.. That's like farming pugils and snippers on the dunes beaches..

As for my own NPC crap, I've gotten mine a few levels in eastern altepa near the telepoint with my whm (Hexa Strike 4tw) and I haven't run into any trouble with parties and such so far. I say everyone needs to play BST up to 50+ and then you'll learn some respect.

I agree whole-heartedly.

They still cant be called into lvl capped areas. the promy calls are done using a Rendevouz point inside the prom to finish the Tactics Pearl quest. Not really a normal xp session

but I saw him fighting some empty mobs.. was that part of the quest too?

Yes. You call your NPC and find a ??? on any of the floors. The ??? kicks out a base amount of exp, 250 on 1st, 500 on 2nd, 750 on 3rd, 1000 on 4th. And kills made between entering and confirming to your NPC that you're finished at the ??? add bonus exp(A max of 30 fights.)

I've had a few times where NPC levelers pissed me off, too. One time was in a JP PT in Sauromugue Champaign; we were fighting weapons, and some jerk with an NPC walks up, watches us killing one and going to pull another, then he starts slaughtering all the others while we fight. WTF? A more recent example was when I went to Kuftal with a few friends to try and farm some Shoalweed from Recluse Spiders in Kuftal for the last S.O.B. quest. 2 groups of people with NPCs were there slaughtering all of them, leaving us with 1-2 if we were lucky. And every time one of them would leave, another would come and take their place! Now I don't blame the first ones that were there, since we showed up after they did, but I just can't understand how someone could walk up, see a group fighting a group of mobs, and start taking those same mobs to level their NPC. That's just the epitome of rudeness, in my books.

That said, I love my NPC, and I love the way they work (for the most part; they could use a bit of AI tweaking XD). I don't want to see them nerfed or anything like some people have been talking about. Rappa's idea especially (where your level would affect their exp) would totally ruin NPCs for me. Personally, I've always made sure before summoning her that no one else is leveling there; PT, BST, or even other NPC levelers. I even try to avoid farmers when I can. I can't count the number of times I've gone to a zone to try and level my NPC, only to see a PT or a BST leveling there, and I've turned around and left to find another place, or just decided to level her another time. I've always been a fan of leveling in areas off the beaten path, and since I've never had a static to do it with, I've been able to at least do it with my NPC.

HOWEVER, as other people have mentioned: if I'm there leveling her and you show up after me and get all pissy because you want to exp there, tough shit. First come, first serve. It's not like I'm gonna be there for hours on end. At most, I'll be there for 45 minutes (that is, if you show up right after I've started). I don't summon my NPC two times in a row unless she was right about to level when she left, and that's happened maybe once or twice now, both times when no one was around. Hell, just be a bit patient; chances are I'll be done there soon anyway.

For NPC levelers who can't think of other places to level their NPCs, here's what I've always done: think of a mob that you leveled on at your NPC's level. Now go look that mob up on Somepage and see what level it is. Then go to the Mobs link, type in that level range, and have it search for all non-NM, non-fished mobs in that level range. It'll give you a nice big list of places you can level your NPC. Check those areas until you find a nice spot away from other people to level your NPC. That way everyone is happy.

Semi-derailed, semi-not..
What totally annoys me is when I tried EXPing off Killer Mushrooms. Constantly (talking at least one person an hour), some one would come in to skillup, level their NPC, or quest. I gave away over a stack of King Truffles because of that crap just because those were by far the best EXP I could get solo. When people say "go level your NPC in a far-off spot", they don't mean "goto one of the most popular exp zones in the game and take a left". ><
