I did the math for those still having doubts about Nuevo corselette beating haubergeon +1.

You want to put STR+5 DEX+5 VIT+5 accuracy +10 store TP+4 on your corselette, and get rid of hachiman hands or feet, thus getting +3% haste to your set up...

You'll get 2-3 less acc and 13-14 less attack than a hauby +1; the acc loss is not a big deal if you have good acc gear in other slots, and the attack loss won't matter much as 10 attack is almost nothing in a 600+ attack situation (minuet /war). It will be in any case worth trading for 3% haste to your melee speed.

You get a 3% haste boost to your melee and ws speed, compared to the previous standard set up with hauby + hachiman feet.

There is a small draw back: you have to change your WS set up.

For your five melee hits you'll use rajas ring, brutal earring and nuevo corselette as stp pieces, plus the 25 from trait, and 10 from merits, that's 45 stp.

11.5*1.45=16.6 TP/hit.

Five melee hits = 5* 16.6=83 TP.

Your WS blow needs then to give 17TP at least. In other words you need +48 stp on your WS set up, which is 13 stp from gear. You'll use rajas and brutal, so you need to use something else that gives you 7stp.

You have to use hachiman feet and body (or their HQ). But there are many other options ( worse though) that can include carbonara, askar corazzin, chiv. chain etc.

You'll loose 1-3 STR ( more with askar etc) on your WS, but get 3% haste in ws speed... Assuming you use turban, swift belt, byakkos, fumas and dusk ( 20% haste in gear), hasso, march haste, that's 56% haste. Moving from 53% to 56% haste is equivalent to 6.8% boost to your WS and melee damage ( (1-0.53)/(1-0.56)=1.068).

This clearly wins and hauby +1 is now obsolette for sam, just like homam body became obsolette for thf.

Note1: if you melee in a chivalrous chain, then each melee hit will give you 16.7 tp. 5 melee hits give you 83.5 TP, so you need 16.5 TP from WS blow, or 9 stp from gear. In which case you can keep osode on WS and use hachiman feet+1 for no str loss.

Note2: if you have usukane feet, hauby+1 is also obsolette. Simply because meleeing in nuevo + usu feet, will give you just enough stp to be able to use sword strap w/o losing your 6-hit ( same if you have usu body too): you'll get 16.8tp/ melee hit, and need only 16.0 from your ws blow, which will be easilly done with rajas + brutal + hachimam feet(+1).

I noticed Harby +1 has dropped a bit recently at AH, perhaps others are agreeing with this also. Thank you for summing all this up so well Mdk.

If Haub+1 prices are dropping. Then maybe I can pick one up for DRK and NIN :D

I wouldn't say the end of Haub +1. Having usu shoes still allows a nice haste setup with even more acc/attk using using haub +1 for tp. Im sure the differences in game are very small. I wouldn't go selling your haub +1 in place of this new body piece though.

I'd still use this setup over the new body piece:

Well, Once you have usu shoes, you have two choice imo: hauby+1 and pole grip, or usu body + sword strap. Maths says usubody combo wins slightly ( more acc more melee and ws speed, but slightly less attack).

Are u factoring in the use of a snow gorget? I meele in chiv chain and ws in snow gorget. Can I still pull it off by wsing in just the ha chi feet nq?

yah, you'd have to ws in hachi body though:

Definitely not a bad option. Its fun that you have a lot of different routes to play sam with really small +'s and -'s.

Actually no i dont, I use Myochin Haidate +1 which gives +4 Store TP, i think that would cover me not having to use Hachiman Body.

Between a those gloves and Usu feet and Askar head, you are giving up a potential 5% haste. I dont think that is a good setup at all.

i'll give you the benifet of the doubt on the gloves, dusk+1 would definetly tip the scale. but i prefer to accually hit the mob with a greater chance to crit rather then hope my 70-80% hit rate lands me another hit 2 minutes later.

askar has been proven to be superior to turban *unless* your getting double march in a zerg situation. usukane feet with it's acc/atk and it's store tp are better then fuma without a doubt.

Where has it been proven that Askar head beats Turban. Sam acc, and with merits are very good as it is, i would need to parse my acc to see how mine is, but just going by what ive seen, i dont think my acc is hurting enough to the point i need an askar head.

Im fairly certain though, if your acc is capped on meleeing, 1% always beats out askar head, and possibly even an aces helm.

Sword strap is useless, it fucks up your 6-hit setup. Pole grip or go home.

meleeing in 12 acc, 10dex. why dont i think thats gunna work.

much rather use this setup: http://ffxigear.com/?ref=2362
I wouldn't wear Hachiryu hands at all, accuracy hasn't been an issue for SAM's for a very long time, and if it is you could just eat a pizza. Same with the cape, I'd rather have forager's/cerb/amemet than 7 more acc I don't need. If you're going to go that route with more accuracy on, I'd rather throw on Askar body and not need the store TP from the feet.

This body piece isn't an end-all, be-all replacement, especially since it requires you to have a specific setup for WS. The best replacement for an HQ haub, if you can't afford one, is an NQ haub. The HQ is only slightly better, and you won't have to give up on better WS pieces.

Unless that 1% actually gives you another attack round, it's useless. Haste, like everything else in the game only has an effect when in large numbers. A small difference is meaningless, just like it is for every other stat in the game.

Askar/Ace's is better, because of the STR/accuracy added in. The accuracy isn't all that necessary, but it does allow you to make other changes to your gear; like maybe wear askar body instead of Hauby full-time to free up your feet for haste gear. You'd be losing 1% haste from the head and gaining 3% on the feet, that's a great trade-off. This is of course assuming that you don't have Usukane feet already.

There is a trend recently where sams are willing to give up on haste for dex which i really dont understand. using hachiryu gloves is really bad imo. Using askar gloves isn't as bad, but sams should really use dusk only. head is arguable ( askar vs turban).

For info, if you give up those 4% haste, then you go from 55% haste to 51% haste you lose 9% dmg ( 0.45/0.49=0.91), I really dont think 15 dex will make up for it, especially considering it's only enhancing your melee dmg, which is 1/3 of your total dmg, unlike haste, which enhances both melee and ws.

That and the fact is very easy to get a decent dex build without askar head, hands or hachiryu hands, make turban + dusk gloves better imo. If you are not afraid to look at super expensive gear check my set up on ffxiah: it gives me 407 accuracy ( cap on colibris) and 113 dex ( cap also on coliris), without use of askar head hands or hachiryu. Now if you don't have money use lightning bow +1, dex+5 ring, dex merit, for the same effect.

to each his own i suppose. raw numbers are good on paper, but everyone can contest it's use in the feild can be very differant.

i wish everyone would stop comparing every setup to colibri. a mob where you cannot use food to it's full potential.

What are you referring to?

That setup is a fuck ton of ACC, a bit overkill really...Maybe use that setup if you are using a polearm...GKt? Eh, not so much.

Wtf are you talking about? I always see you posting in SAM threads talking nonsense and misinformed information.

That one was meant to be a joke based on simply not using enough acc, but oh well, i guess sacrificing too much acc won't make you miss (since i'm posting nonsense here).
