Oh god help us O_o

This just seems wrong in sooooooo many ways O_o

US 'pregnant man' has baby girl

An American man who was born female but underwent gender realignment surgery, has given birth to a female baby, US media have reported.

Thomas Beatie, 34, is legally male but kept his female reproductive organs after having breast surgery to remove glands and flatten his chest.

Both Mr Beatie and his daughter are reported to be doing well in a hospital in Bend, Oregon.

He was inseminated using sperm from an anonymous donor.

The birth was natural, a source at St Charles Medical Center in Bend told ABC News, and took place on Sunday.

According to some reports, Mr Beatie had had a Caesarean section.

Former model

Mr Beatie, who sports a wispy beard, made headlines around the world when he revealed in April that he was pregnant.

He told chat show host Oprah Winfrey it had been his dream to one day have a child.

"I opted not to do anything with my reproductive organs because I wanted to have a child one day," he said.

Mr Beatie grew up in Hawaii as Tracy Lagondin and was a Girl Scout, model and finalist in a teenage beauty pageant.

He began to live as a man when he was in his 20s and officially changed his gender, he told People magazine.

He has been married for five years to wife Nancy.

Mr Beatie's obstetrician, Dr Kimberly James, told Oprah Winfrey in April: "This baby is totally healthy. This is what I consider a normal pregnancy."

No man gave birth. A woman gave birth who happened to have had a sex change to become a "man". I think it should be part of the sex change operation to remove the reproductive possibilities of the person as part of their choice to change. I'm all for anyone who wants to change genders, but don't half-ass it.

Ugh, this just reminds me of that horrible movie Junior.

Not a man, never going to be a man.

If you're gonna go that far with it you should have the dignity of having the organs removed. This is just someone who wanted to have her cake and eat it too.

So what you're saying is "the cake was a lie"?

Fuck you all, the cake is real.

Maybe you just don't know how to bake with it properly?

Not exactly a new story. He was on Oprah a few months ago.

I thought it was pretty handy, though. They wanted a baby and he was the only fertile one, and he still had the organs for it. Problem solved. Beats outsourcing it to a surrogate, I guess.

The fact 'he' was married to really made it wrong...Makes me wonder if she knew he was an actual she..

I'm quite sure that her real gender came up before they even got married...I mean...he/she did have a vagina. That is kind of hard to miss.

There were no surprises here. Like I said, they told their story on Oprah.

This was a big discussion in my anthropology class and huge to the people taking the anthro senior class (which was sex and sexuality) last semester. Most of the points brought up were the fact that this person wanted to be considered a man and underwent procedures to do so. But at what point do we call this person a man when they were born a woman and still have all/most of the female reproductive organs? Personally, it's not for me to judge people on what gender they are, even if they are clearly male or female. I know that sounds weird, but from my anthro point of view, how can I deny them the right to that?

Some of you would say 'They're obviously a woman - they have a vagina!' But there are many different categories that anthropologists have for sexuality and this is one of them. And oddly enough something like this happens all over the world on a daily basis without so much as a blink of an eye. Although, I don't know if any of them can or do have children while in their 'opposite gender role,' if you will.

So yeah, there's that long, overstated anthropologist point of view. >_>
