I am so pissed off at SE right now.

Got home at 7PM EST yesterday and pulled up my computer to start the update, which always takes forever even on DSL. The program scanned, got the # of files needed (~700) and I thought "Cool, only 700 out of the 12k files need to be updated, this should be quick." HAHAHA, I was WRONG!! It got to 1 file left and the program froze. I didn't want to mess anything up so I just ate and watched some TV hoping it would finish. After about 30 minutes of no activity I could tell it was completely hosed. I opened some other programs, including EQ2, to make sure it wasn't just my computer that had frozen. Sure enough, it was definitely the FFXI updater. I forced the updater to close (since it wouldn't cancel from within the program) and went back into POL. "The previous update failed. Please reinstall FFXI" So I uninstalled FFXI and rebooted the system to do a fresh install with no program remnants in the OS. The black screen of death popped up "File not found, cannot start Windows." :banghead3:
Whatever the updater was doing when it froze apparently hosed my system files. There was no way to even get into safe mode, so I had to reinstall Windows. At about midnight, I had finally worked through the reinstall of Windows, all the drivers and all my programs. So I started the update and went to bed. When I woke up at 5AM I looked at the computer and it was just finishing. Even then, I almost jumped through my computer to get SE because it started "skipping files" when it got to 1 file left. After about 10 minutes of "skipping files", it popped up with a "Network Error" message. Luckily when I clicked OK the next screen said "Update Completed." Apparently the updater is retarded and is not showing the installation part after the file downloads. I went into FFXI and ran around and zoned a few times just to make sure it was working. So far I think everything was successful but we'll see when I get home tonight and really have time to move all around Vanadiel.
So all told it took me about 10 hours and a lot of hassle to complete this update. Luckily all of my personal files are on a separate drive from my OS and programs, so I did not lose any data by reformatting the boot drive.
