I was out testing Distortion and Light on Lesser Colibri's. I had seperate macro sets for each sc, though my equipment access is a bit small currently, so they are relatively the same. Noticable difference, head gear: AF for MND+ (savage blade, and magic hammer when I decide to MB it) and Empress's Hairpin for DEX+ ( Disseverment has DEX_20 , or is supposed to..). I was screwing around with it, and decided to keep my AF head on for Distortion, to compare the decrease in Disseverment, and the increase in Savage Blade. Savage Blade barely noticable difference. Disseverment..... lost 500+ DMG O.O (w/pin 1300-1500 ; w/o 800-1000) Tried this several times.

Now, the question I have is, is there some sort of threshold for dmg that when you hit it, can possibly increase your dmg output greatly? Or has it been confirmed that even BLU spells that dont mention Critical Hits in text can still Crit? I am thinking it may be the former, since it's more believable that I hit the DEX vs AGI point where my crit hit rate on spells went up, if these resemble WS's more then I had realized (considering that I got about a 100dmg per hit boost from +3 DEX).

I haven't done extensive tests, I don't have the patience, lol. I just wanted to figure out what the cause for this was, so I can work on getting the same result on much higher mobs.

I'll throw a guess and say its the Monster Corelation effect, or something. Disseverment is Lumorian though, so it seems odd that birds would be strong to lumorians, unless the lumorians and beastmen works in some other way.

Either that, or you were unlucky enough to miss some hits. Could always sub BST and charm them to see what their TP gain is.

edit: although coem to think of it, I doubt the monster correlation would also affect your own spells when they're weak to a mob. So its certainly odd. Think I'll go try myself

Some think that a stat mod means nothing on inbetween (i.e. a 20% DEX mod would only effect the skill for 5 every DEX, and anything inbetween won't effect it at all)

The 3DEX might've been enough to hit the /5 mark (if this theory is even true...), though in my own opinion I'd hafto agree with Uzor - seems more likely you just missed some hits (or didn't get as many criticals as average, if the skill can critical at all)

At the same time, as Uzor said, Colibri may be strong vs Lumorian, so it may have been that, alternatively. I still personally think it was just a bad hit if anything.

Well, I thought maybe it was slightly more acc with the extra DEX, so i tried with the pin on, and unequipped vendors slops (acc+3), and got the same number. Also, I did this several times with and w/o hairpin, had roughly the same results. Everytime w/o pin it could never hit more then 1k, everytime w it, it never went below 1300~. Also, this was done when the mob was nearly at full, and always left enough hp to trigger the SC, just to make sure it had enough HP for all the hits to be counted.

possibly, a fluke? lol, monsters can resist skill chain damage the same way they would a spell. i'd like to see how the calculations for skillchain damage work.

Thats not the sc dmg, that was the spell dmg.

Interesting

I'm going to have to play with this myself. I usually solo with turban on but if I can get 300+ damage for macroing in E pin its worth it to carry it around with me.

I apologize for necroing this thread, but I wanted to know if anyone has tested this since I tried it. I posted these odd findings here:

Only to be insulted, and I think my previous posts were deleted, even though they were the ones trying to start a flamewar with me. Btw, the posts that are still there are the first time I actually fired back. I tried to stay non-confrontational, and these people still continued to attack me. Funny thing was, I was only trying to suggest to the OP that nothing is written in stone, and that he should figure out if the bracelets were good for him. This example I gave was not put there to upset the "elite" BLUs out there.

Anyway, this isn't a flame, I was just curious as to anyone's findings out there.

If it makes you feel better i went in rated ya up.

Well I'm not an expert BLU but I did a lot of research and tests with RNG damage so maybe I can give some food for thoughts.

One thing I'm pretty sure of is the +3 DEX would never add 500 damage by itself. From what I could find, BLU spell damage is similar to melee WS calculation, with the second modifiers and the level correction. From what I gathered this is what 3 more DEX would add:

[[(3*0,2)*0,83]*2]]*1,5= 1,494 for first hit
[[(3*0,2)*0,83]*2]]*1= 0,996 for following 4 hits
Total = 5,478 that has to be multiplied by your pDif. Let's assume you're capped on Lesser colibris, that means a total dmg output of:

5,478 * 2,4 = 13,1472

If you crit. every hit, then you'd get 16,435 (with a pDif of 3)

Just to clarify where those numbers come from:

0,2 is the DEX modifier
0,83 is the level correction for 75
2 is the multiplier while using the spell with Chain Affinity (not sure that's 100% accurate)
1,5 is the fTP multiplier for Dissevernment, at any TP.

I haven't factored in the monster correlation since from what you are saying, you get less damage from REMOVING a boost to it, be it a very small one (0,02).

Also, keep in mind there's rounding down in a few places I haven't factored in since I have no idea what your total DEX is like. But I think, unless the info on BLU spells is way off, you can rule out the +3 DEX as being responsible for 500 more damage.

What you can do is try different headpiece. Keep your same gear but do 10 Diss. with AF on, then Emp hairpin, then without any headpiece at all. If the TP return was the same in all WS (so all 5 hits landed) then I have no clue why you are getting such a big difference. If TP return wasn't then it might be it, not every hit landed.

Hope that helps.

Try finding a mob strong enough to live through all the hits of Disseverment but wimpy enough that you'd have good odds of capped pDIF and fSTR (not to mention good odds of landing all the hits). Secondary mods are easiest to test if you can exclude outside variables such as that. (However, I can tell you right now that Disseverment would need to have a *huge* DEX mod - few hundred percent at least - in order for 3 DEX to boost damage by 500 - and if had such a mod, it would already be dumping out many thousands of damage more than it currently does.)

One alternative option is that there's an unknown "something weird" with Disseverment, much like Cannonball and Defense. However, without details of your tests (exact number of attempts, gear for each, damage for each), I dunno if that line of investigation would be worth pursuing. Some things can simply be attributed to statistical distribution.

Yeah I do see that 3 DEX alone shouldn't have had that kind of effect. Though what I suggest about the +10 evasion probably shouldn't have had that kind of effect either. Also, this was a good 6 months or so ago, and all I have to go off of is my initial post in this thread. Goddamn I need my computer back >.> lol

With alot of things I would normally agree. However, I do like their BLU job forums, they are usually pretty informative, and this site has nothing like it.

If it makes you feel better i went in rated ya up.

Lol, thanks, I wasn't worried about the rate downs, as much as I thought some mod just came along and deleted my posts. Now that I know that's not the case, I don't mind.

Well, personally I think the easiest way to explain it is critical hits. Disseverment have always been odd, like Burst Affinity affecting it before they patched it.

what was wrong with burst affinity before they patched it?

Saw that this thread had returned and decided to let ya know what I found back then/now. + Dex has a noticable impact on Disseverment's damage along with Str of course. I don't know about a threshhold where there is all of a sudden a massive jump in damage but it does go up a noticable amount as I add Dex. In this spells setup +Dex and +Str are equal in value (Or possibly Dex being of greater value because of increased weapon accuracy for ever +2 Dex) and the damage difference was enough for me to go out and seek items like Voyager Sallet and Pixie Earring and to take off the Pallas braclets and switch to hume RSE gloves. My conclusion is that there is no threshold it was simply the accuracy of the spell during those spikes was greater... more hits landed!

Or some of them were critical hits.

Or some of them were critical hits.

Which is the idea I originally liked the most, since I doubt my accuracy would be affected that much by a 3 DEX shift (then again, would that same shift effect Crit Hit rate of the spell, if it has one?) . I don't think I was having accuracy issues, my hits on VT imps are relatively consistant, and these were EP Lesser Colibri. When I get back I am also going to test an idea Uzor originally suggested, which had to do with the AF hat. Disseverment has proven to have at least 1 glitch with it, plus I don't know if anyone has ever tested the various killer traits on sea mobs to test if they could possibly have a secondary mob family (khimara does, though I do understand it is an amalgam(Sp?) of mobs).
