Same. And sometimes the difficulty level ramps up with no warning. I need to go back and re-do some of the earlier stages to level up.
 
Eh, I hardly ever plant except to get seeds to use for alchemy, I mainly get my xp/hp ups from the Pooka Cafe or w/e its called, make good use of life potions, and ones that reduce damage taken, napalm and so on, the alchemy system is definitely great, plus when you stack alchemy lvls, you can release a lot of phozons with it, which can greatly cheapen things.
Plus when you go on/get more money/buy more bags, the inventory system gets a lot better, but the early parts definitely suck.

I love the game, the only thing that kills me is the slowdown, and yeah it definitely gets better as you do more characters.

Edit: And I enjoy the difficulty spikes, and if you think those are bad, wait til you try the highest difficulty setting(unlocked after beating game, and getting all alchemy/recipe/info texts), 1 hit kills for the most part, plus you don't get HP ups from anything(food/etc). That shit is fun

Mercedes vs. Beldor... god that fight was so annoying. Took me a good half hour to figure out a trick to it.
 
Well, for Gwendolyn and Cornelius, I played wrongly on them where HP and Weapon Lvl same.
Then for Mercedes, Oswald and Velvet. I focus more on weapon Lvl. Bam! Too Weak HAHA
My Weapon level is 2x HP level. so like Oswald if lvl 20 HP, lvl 40 weapon and the damage is just insane haha. Painkiller, Ultimate, Turn into that black thing, Attack bonus spell (Sorry played the JP version so don't know the actual stuff in english). the boss hp goes down soooo fast HAHAHA.
Even Beldor didn't last long ;)
 
Picked this up the other day and I'm enjoying it very much. I'm stuck where you fight the Dragon with Gewndelyn (sp)
 
i just bought this game a few days ago. Extremely difficult but really fun if you dont mind trying 30+ times to beat Odin. Also how do you switch characters? is it just through storyline or what?
 
Yeah, each character has 1 story line you play through, you unlock a new character every time you finish someone's story. After you have them all, you can play through them in any order. The game's great, although ridiculously unfair at times.
