Off the beaten XP Camp

There are very often occasions when everyone and their little brother's mule is online, and nobody can find a good xp camp to save thier lives. Lets take... lv 12-20? Normally, you suck it up and try to glean xp outta those dunes. Personally, I like going after worms in Korr Tunnel or the Maze. Lv32-40? Those fun loving bats in Garl. Cit. or the Nest with its death trains. But what about the two deserts? Those beetles & Dhamel out there are very nice to xp from. Or the zone outside Norg. One crazy idea I had was xping inside Torn Canal. The zone between the canal and the Hon Ruins is a very nice camp that could support one or two camps. As much as GC. There's pugs, bats, crabs, Skeletons. Lots of stuff, mostly the same level as the Nest.

Thats the discussion.. where do you camp at some levels...thats off the beaten path. And how well did it go?

One time from 49-51 I camped the West Ronfaure zone in Bostaunieux Oubliette. We fought the Werebat that popped there. Exp was slow at first, probably getting used to the zone and some ppl were lv49. After the Lv49 got 50 exp flowed much better but started to trail off when others got to 51. There are only enough mobs to support one PT.

Personally, I'm a huge fan of alternate leveling areas. I always suggest them to my PTs (when they're not Japanese, in which case I lack the communication skills to do so), but people rarely listen, instead preferring to go to packed zones that they are familiar with.

[reminisce]Hell, I remember the days when Tahrongi Canyon, Maze of Shakhrami, and Buburimu Penninsula were just as popular as the Dunes. On my first job (THF), I never went to the Dunes until I was 18 and already had a fully-leveled sub.[/reminisce]

As far as times I've done "out of the norm" areas... well, lots. I leveled THF from 30-31 in Yuhtunga Jungle in the tunnel leading to Sea Serpent Grotto, fighting Sahagins and Makaras. Then I leveled 31-33 in Eastern Altepa Desert, fighting beetles. I leveled NIN from 16-18 in one JP PT in Korroloka Tunnel, and I remember how amazed I was at how fast the exp flowed.

More recently, I leveled BLM in Sauromugue Champaign at around 20-21, and WHM in Sauromugue Champaign at 30-31 on weapons. Then I leveled WHM from 31-32 (almost 33) in Sea Serpent Grotto, fighting crabs and the occasional Sahagin. I leveled WHM somewhere around 46-47 in Yhoator Jungle, near one of the zones to Ifrit's Cauldron, fighting gobbies. I, like Gannon, also leveled in Bostaunieux Oubliette near the zone to Ronfaure, fighting bats. I remember in that PT, some RDM/NIN had dragged Sewer Syrup over somewhat near us (far enough away that AoE would not hit us) and was soloing him. Was kinda fun to watch, since at the time someone had disconnected and we were waiting for him to reconnect.

The only real reason I would ever want a static would be so that I could always level in alternate zones like that. Newton Movalpolos at 58-60, Upper Delkfutts Tower 60-62, Monastic Cavern 62-63, Ru'Aun Gardens 63-65, Den of Rancor 65-69, Shrine of Ru'Avitau 69-72, Lufaise Meadows 72-75... god, it'd rock.

I disagree. Rams does HP down.
Tried exp-ing there and ain't that great. I prefer solo-ing in Al'Teiu.

Back when I hit 25 on my WHM, I was partying in Battalia Downs. We were camped in one of the bunkers and pulling tigers and goblins. It worked pretty well.

I went to the canal with my static somewhere in the 40's, we camped pugs and crabs just outside full moon fountain, on one of those side ledges away from the hp aggro'ing skeles. We would have had a pretty good session, but the rdm we picked up to join us aggroed 2 pugs as we got to camp, was raised while we were killing the 2nd, only to run out of aoe, aggro another and die. He left after that, and our exp was still decent considering we had 5 people and no refresh.

Yea ive done my share of lvlng in places aside from the norm....just last night i expd my WHM 14-16 in Korrloka(sp) tunnel. Exp was great...better than the dunes. IVe also lvldn in Saurmonge...Norg zone...Battalia Downs...Quicksand...Altepa...and other places i cant think of atm...Those were some of the best pts.

Batallia downs is a great alternative for the jungles. Partied there many times. Gain also introduced me to fighting Weapons in Saru[tab] Champ[tab], which was really great XP too.

Ive done Upper Delkfutts tower twice in the 60-62 range... and neither time it worked out well. I swear that place is cursed for people getting DC'd for one, and also getting 6 people who still have thier Delkfutts key is difficult as well. (makes for a long walk to camp)

P.S. The Shrine of Ru'Avitau is in no way off the beaten path, just about ever 73-75 is there wiping the zone dry of weapons, that place is packed most of the time.

I semi-agree with Kyrial, though Upper Delkfutt seems better for a 58-60 range, as at 60 everything is high T to barely IT, and at 61 nothing is IT at all. ^^;

Korroloka is good from about 12-17 if in a full party, since the worms there have a very nice level range (just hafto be careful not to pick one that's way above your party's level, they seem to be lower level at the Zeruhn zone compared to deeper in)

I've heard Tracker Antlions in Attohwa Chasm are great in the low 60's, but from what I've seen requires a BRD/SMN combo to give the acc to even hit them...and even then, they seem flat-out way too high eva/def to decently exp off of.



Also agreeing with Kyrial on Lufiase - The Birds there are great exp, though a little lower than the Rams, and the Rams themself are virtually no threat to a NIN (hit PLDs sorta tough though, and Great Bleat/Max HP Down can be perilous to them). With a WHM main healing with a NIN tank and someone with /WHM backing them up, there should only be 4 people max to erase Max HP down and shouldn't be too bad of an issue; with a NIN tank the WHM will have more than enough spare MP as is. =P

One of the places not mentioned yet is the Gazers in Eldieme Necropolis. Our static did those in the 34-36 range if I remember right. They're in the zone farthest west in Batallia, I believe (it's been a looong time since we did this), and you can camp right at the zone line. Only mobs that are found in this area of Eldieme are your XP mobs and a NM that's on like a 24 hour respawn. There's hardly ever anyone there, and the mobs go down pretty quickly. Just need a Dispel and Silence, as they're BLM types.

Some new ideas here...I've always thought of using the three Jeuno zones, but never was sure about the levels. I know the beetles in the deserts are the same general level as the mandies just outside of kazham, but when I tried to kill them as a party, they were right murder. Still, I was in parties that took on Hobgoblins inside Bibiki bay earlier (61 or 62 I think) we were getting nearly 400xp (before the xp boosts) due to the fact that we had good players and a great combination.

So...what about lv72? Especially for those of us hopeless cases without Sky Access. I've heard Uleguerand Range was good. We all know about King Ranf. Tomb. There's always Ifrit's Col. but people are very much fearful of Bomb's self-destructing.

What about the level cap areas? I was rather delighted to get my level as a smn when farming animas the other day, and it was above 30. Has anyone tried making a party of ..lol...anyone...and heading into Promy or those towers and xping? Maps would be a question...as well as a decient camp.
