Official 2009 Stanley Cup Playoff Thread

Avery is the biggest piece of trash in the NHL. I would have never let him back in the league, he hasn't learned a damn thing. He takes so many cheap shots, can't separate his personal life from his professional one. Just seems to me he thinks everyone is out to get him. I would post links to some of the stuff he's done but i don't want people to waste their time on this jerk.

Also, if luongo stays hot and the sedin's can keep it up, i will have to change my picks for the west.

Avery is a jerk, but its why he was so effective before he was suspended. He scores goals, and gets in other players faces to draw penalties, which is an invaluable asset to a team. However, his reputation is incredibly well known now, and officials will watch him like a hawk every second he's on the ice. He can't get away with ANYTHING anymore, even things an average player could get away with, which is why he's a liability right now.

Its too bad he's such a massive douchebag because he really is good, and fills a role the Rangers badly need against the capitals, which is scoring goals. I wouldn't be surprised if Avery's ice time was severely limited in the coming games.

I won't deny he is a good player, not many guys that can score 20+ goals and still be an agitator. Too many times though he's crossed the line, he just doesn't seem to get it.

I mean, how many guys had a rule named after them.

Detroit sweeps Columbus in a rather good game, although the too many men call at the end was rather crappy (especially with Detroit getting away with a high stick on the same play)

Philly shuts out the pens handily to send the series back to Philly, now only trailing 3-2

In a spectacular game of goaltending, the Devils manage to edge out the Hurricanes 1-0, taking a 3-2 series lead.

Ducks/Sharks game starts in 30 mins, will update when its over.

EDIT: Ducks win, Hiller now has shutouts in two of his three ever playoff games

i pray to god the sharks fall i hate that friggin team :|

Washington shuts out the Rangers in the only game tonight. King Henrik looked like he left his crown at home, getting himself benched at the start of the 3rd.

Speaking of benched, Avery got told to take a break which was the right call.... Except that the Rangers were simply terrible without him. Expect Torterella to make a quick about face and play him on Sunday.

Sharks have one more game till there knocked out... thank god

This is the whole problem since he has gone back, any time he sits out/gets suspended for any number of games the team looks completely lost without him. Very similar to the Maple leafs the last few years, whenever McCabe, Sundin, Tucker or Kaberle were out the team played absolutely horrible. When you become so reliant on a player you don't think you can play without them you're asking for trouble........

Washington still has a big hill to climb, but i think they will stretch it to 7 games.

I think the biggest story from that game though was Henrik. There was only 1 goal that he wasn't stoppping, and that was Ovi's at the end of the second. That puck was going in even if they'd piled sandbags in front of the net.

But that second goal was simply awful. Shot from a horrible angle with no real force, and he just didn't bring his feet together to stop it. He needs to get back on form, because he's the only reason the rangers have a series lead.

Pens knock off the Flyers, advance to second round with 4-2 series win. I missed the game so someone else can tell me how the Flyers managed to blow that good of a lead, that fast.

Pens pretty much controlled the action for the first 17 minutes. Decided to not play for the last 3 of the first period. Down 2-0 that fast. Briere adds another on the Power Play early in the Second. I'm ready to shut the TV off. Max Talbot fights Carcillo, gets his ass beat, but gave the Pens a spark. Malkin drives hard, makes it 3-1. Eaton cleans up garbage, 3-2. The Wizard of Cros goes Barry Bonds on a low sinker, new game. Flyers drudge around like they won the game already. Gonchar unleashes the fury, 4-3. Fleury stands on his head, plays like he's on acid for the last 12 minutes, which kind of felt like Father Time himself fucking me in the ear. Wizard on Empty Net. Game.

The best part, the Cryers local media douche who picks the three stars didn't even list Crosby, who had 2 goals, was a +2, won 20 faceoffs, and had a game-high seven shots on goal. What a joke.

Suck it Philly. I really, really hate your town. I saw one of their draft picks stabbed a Ref to death in his home. I was not surprised.

Chicago wins at home, and breaking the first-goal curse in that series.

Sharks stave off elimination at home, forcing game 6 in Anaheim

last night there were some questionable moments in that game there were alot of dirty hits and shit goin on from the sharks

Caps win game 6, sending it back to Washington for Game 7. The wheels seem to be off New York. Well, really just off Henrik, who's the only reason the series is where it is.

King Hendrik got hung out to dry today more than just sucking like he did in game 5. First goal, NY couldn't clear their own zone at all, and by "couldn't clear their zone" I mean "apparently forgot how to play Hockey". The 3 on 1 was brutal. Some of the others were probably his fault, but it's a different game at that point if those two never happen.

Oh I'm not excusing the rest of the Rangers. But King Henrik has been able to keep them in the game despite that for the entire series. But he's getting worn out, having to make impossible saves night after night after night, that he just can't keep up with the skill'ed players on the Cap's bench.

Lundqvist isn't loosing them games by any stretch, but he isn't winning them single handidly anymore.

Yeah boy! Blackhawks win the series against the Flames 4-2 and advance to the second round.

Yeah boy Anaheim beats San Jose meaning Canucks aren't playing Detroit next round!

i still think Vancouver would have been better off playing Detroit sooner rather than later. That being said, Chicago may have the best chance of beating Detroit since Chicago won both games against Detroit to close out the season, whichwill weigh heavily on Detroit whether they like to admit it or not.

New Jersey/Carolina Game 7 Tonight, Martin Brodeur vs Cam Ward. Safe bet that both golies are going to play out of their minds. Whoever wins isn't going to win by more than a goal.

Go 'Canes!!!
