Official 2009 Stanley Cup Playoff Thread

As much as I hated to see the Sharks go down in defeat; as well as to say it, they deserved to do so. They played absolutely fucking horrible. They looked like they never had the drive, motivation, and were too tired to play their best.

Although they showed some signs of life through parts of the series they were outplayed.

Most bay area fans as well as the rest of the country will see the Sharks as the choke artists they portrayed themselves to be as well as the biggest joke in the league.

Maybe the sharks should join a beer league and see if they can beat any of those teams in their respective playoffs, I can't believe they can continue to choke like this in the post-season.
Although Thorton has never and will never be a playoff go-to guy. He couldn't do it in Boston.

Carolina scores 2 goals in the last 30 seconds of regulation(ok it was more like that last minute and a half, but still) to come from behind and stun the entire state of New Jersey.

FFFFFUUUUUCCCCCKKKKK YYYYYYEEEEAAAAHHHHH!!!!!!!!

Equally Awesome, the Pens don't have to play Boston now! Woop Woop!

Epic 56 seconds were epic.

I watched the last 2 periods of the Rangers/ Capitals game and i have to say that was the best finish to a game i had ever seen......

Until i saw the last 10 mins of the Hurricanes/ Devils game. Capitals were outplayed the entire game and still managed to get the win. 'Canes goalie Cam Ward holds the fort so they can come back and win.

I know i am going to be watching the Caps/ Pens games. Crosby and Ovechkin have a serious rivalry going, and this one is going to get ugly. Caps in 7, Ovie is just going to be too much for them to handle.

i still think Vancouver would have been better off playing Detroit sooner rather than later. That being said, Chicago may have the best chance of beating Detroit since Chicago won both games against Detroit to close out the season, whichwill weigh heavily on Detroit whether they like to admit it or not.

Even if that's true, I'd still rather see us take out Chicago first and get to round 3. Either way, series 2 is going to be good.

Caps manage to hold out against the Pens, grabbing a 3-2 win and the series lead. My favorite thing in the game is watching two skill teams go against eachother, especially in the playoffs. Also, Varlamov was brilliant, making the best save of the playoffs so far, absolutely robbing Crosby. That's almost enough to be charged with theft in some places.

A shakey caps start led to an early Pens goal, but they jumped back into it at the midway point, and the pens were struggling to keep the explosive caps offence in check. Especially on the power play, when you have Ovechkin, Semin, AND Green on the ice at once.

Will post after the Nucks game tonight.

Unfortunately I only caught the end, so someone else can fill in the game. 6-3 win for the Blackhawks

Game was rough Van was up 2-0 in the first forget who scored the goals. The outta nowhere Chicago came back with 5 consecutive goals. Van scores another to make it 5-3 then pull their gollie giving Chicago an open net goal.

Tripple OT in the Ducks/Wings game, resulted in series tied at 1 a piece. Hiller seemed almost human in the first period, as opposed to his performances in the rest of the playoffs.

Carolina shuts out Boston, proving they're not just machines sent from the future to demolish everything between them and the cup.

Another spectacular game between Caps and Pens. Only Crosby could get pucks past Varlamov, but on the other end the Alexander Ovechkin Show was in full force, scoring three of the 4 goals to get past the pens 4-3 and take a 2 nothing series lead.

Also, Ovie's power play goal. That'll teach the pens to give them a Power Play.

detroit jipped out of an OT game with possible win. about a min left, puck sitting in the crease uncovered. detroit shoves it in and ref calls no goal because he was out of position and lost sight of it. NHL needs to penalize refs as they do in the NFL for bad calls.

They're probably doing like they did last year, play down the Wings and try to take away as many goals as possibly so they don't win the cup. Last year they just happen to be unstoppable, this year is a little different.

Yeah I caught that on the TV like 20 minutes ago. That was a stupid call even the TV people were talking about the NHL penalizing refs like the NFL.

the puck was clearly uncovered. it would be a safe bet to say that even the ducks knew it was a goal and they knew they just came out of that very lucky

The rules state that if the ref looses sight of the puck at the goal, to whistle the play. Its to protect the goalie from getting crashed in the net. It sucked yeah, but that's the rule. Trying to say they're trying to take wins from Detroit is just being ignorant.

Pens stay alive at home, controlling the game well but not enough to put much doubt in the capitals for game 4.

Carolina shocked everyone and takes a 2-1 series lead. This is turning into a bigger series than anyone would've expected.

problem number 1 is that the ref was out of position. if he was where he was supposed to be, he would have seen it.

He can't be everywhere. The play was too quick for him to get in position without impeding the players. He could just as easily prevented the whole play from happening like that.

It wasn't game 7, the wings aren't out of it yet.

your right, it isnt. however, that goal could be what would have been the difference between the series being at 1-2 or 2-1. and it was. and the ref WAS way out of position. he also didnt have teh intent on blowing the whistle. if he did. he would have blown it on his skate toward the net. if he lost sight of it and intended on blowing it dead, he should have done it that 5 seconds earlier when it originally wasnt seen

Well there is a delay inherent in it. He saw the puck go under Hiller, and didn't see it come out again so he blew it. Besides, the play is considered dead when he Intends to blow the whistle, not when it actually gets blown. Going by that it was probably still behind hiller's pad at the time.
