Whatever happened to "just waiting till the game is updated and find out first hand what's in the update (quests, jobs, etc)"?

I think the process of .DAT mining is cool (I was amazed you could do that with a .DAT file ) but then I don't like it cause it's a spoiler. :\

But I AM curious about the new SMN abilities.

/indifference

Look for BLU spells and SMN "refresh" first. ^^

Don't need to look for smn spells.

Its quite simple, you pull out an elemental and then you suck out their mp ;<

tried to get hold of a friend to get the spirit pacts i lack before update...I suck

they're affected according to the previous updates by day and weather so you'll want them all.

.dat mining is ainly used for gear, to see if there's any new awesome gear for jobs, or if the AF's for the jobs are actually worth paying 2 mil for when every DNC on the server are buying the items needed to synth them (I'm looking at you, BLU). Besides, some gear, such as the Salvage gear a while ago, wouldn't have been found for any weeks, and in some cases, months.

I knew that about it. But I'm saying some people have used .dat mining to get the NPC's string files or quest files to see what the NPC or the game says about quests and how to obtain them. Sometimes, they spoil what the NPC will say in a CS. I get into storylines is all and I like surprises.

Yes, I've searched for that too, mainly for AF quests so that you know what you need to do in advance. However, you just simply don't have to read what's in the spoiler tags :p Granted, earlier spoiler tags didn't exist.

I always tend to go after string tables and dialog because I want to know if not how to do a quest, at least what i'll need and where it starts. The way its organized I can stumble upon any random part of it as I go though. But yeah, like Uzor said, dont want to be spoiled? dont look. -- and i'll be late today, dont get out of work til 7.

so with the 3 hr mandatory extension i should have 2 hrs to datamine

Looks like the SE changed the dat file format again...

I usually dont look but sometimes people post it anyway without a warning.

Also. Have the string files shown where the NPCs that sell these spells are (assuming you've discovered it already)? I want to avoid my Repose fiasco >.>

No, can't .dat mine what NPC's sell, and what enemies drop what. That's all server-side.

So you don't have to visit the area first like the current WHM teleports work?

I'm assuming you'll need to have that areas maw.
