Official Ps3 Pricing Info!

And you can argue that they are old and the graphics are rubbish but how many people own a copy of any FF1-6?

The graphics are rubbish?

Says who? O_o

Ya'll are forgeting that the PS3 is a BLue Ray DVD player. THose things go for a thousand bucks still on there own. But the PS3 is a PS1, PS2, PS3 Dvd player, BLue Ray DVD player and a CD player...... therefore worth 500+ dollars (well by there reasoning, and ill pay that to get a BLue ray for that price).

Plus yeah the games are rehashed and the same stuff, FF, MGS and whatnot. But I like those games more then other stuff.Im ok with repeating game styles, call me old fashioned but I like what I like.

So though I'll hate paying that, I still will. Payment plan... 50 bucks a month, oh yeah. It will be mine, oh yes it will be mine.

I have some serious doubts about the Blu-Ray format. Sure, Sony is great at repeating past history without the failure part, but this pattern will break eventually. Blu-Ray is the new betamax. It's significantly more expensive than anything HD-DVD related, including on the production end, which will hurt the supply of Blu-Ray movies.

Not only that, but the $500 PS3 will not support HDMI, meaning it most likely will not play Blu-Ray movies as HDMI includes the copy protection scheme that will be used by Blu-Ray movie discs.

Companies are already pulling production on UMD. They will be wary of supporting Blu-Ray when HD-DVD is already in production and already much less expensive.

Well honestly Im gonna pay the 600 for the HD version and bigger hard drive, if I'm gonna buy this thing Im gonna do it right. About the blue-ray well being the new betamax, that is a possiblity if not likely. However I recall the same thing being said with dvd and even VHS and what not, so anything is possible really.

Well, VHS was the low-end format at the time and its only competitors were Laserdisc (huge, fragile, unwieldy, and expensive) and Betamax (expensive, awkward without rewind). VHS had the lowest specs of the available formats, but its ubiquity, ease of use, durability, and most importantly, its very low price... well, history tells us exactly what happened.

DVD had no competition and offered significant benefits over VHS.

Anyone that saw the transition from audio cassette to CD could've told you that the transition to DVD was bound to be a successful one.

I was there for the transition between both cassette to CD and VHS to DVD, and In both of those despite the overwhelming benefits still had some (very small I will admit) naysayers. Believe me, Im not denieing the possiblity of BLue-Ray going the way of the Beta, I'm just saying it may also become mainstream provided technology becomes cheaper and more accessible which very well may not happen because of the HD-Dvd, but the possiblity does remain. With the PS3 being a cheaper Blue-Ray player then the others, it is concievable that it might generate blue-ray excitment.... a small chance.

Really I'm just holding on to small fraction of hope, My folks had a laser disc... I liked that thing only to see it go away, was sad, but oh well. If it doesnt take off oh well, at least later on I can have retro Blue-ray stuff when it becomes retro.

I had two people come in to my work place (I work merchandising at a Circuit City, which means I deal with movies/games/music and such) yesterday asking about VHS movies. ; ; the first one sounded very disappointed and almost irritated that we didn't sell any VHS movies at all.

My point with the comparison, though, was that all the negative things people said about DVD were virtually identical to the things said about CD, and they took hold in much the same way.

As interesting as it would be, it would force distributors to double their production and resellers to double their stock to accomodate both HD-DVD and Blu-Ray versions of the same movies, which would increase production cost and force a greater markup to make up for the dramatic increase in space needed to hold all the product, as well as the man-hours needed to keep them organised and stocked.

With HD-DVD already available and Blu-Ray movies still a ways off, and HD-DVD being vastly cheaper and a Consortium format rather than a proprietary one... that, combined with Sony having already created two failed movie formats (Betamax and UMD)... I'm not going to hold my breath, put it that way.

Microsoft pretty much spelled it out clearly. "Why buy a Playstation 3, when you can buy an Xbox 360 and a Nintendo Wii for the same price." This was at Microsoft's own XBox press conference, and it's a very valid point.

lol, Microsoft knows, games will be developed quickly and cost eficiently on the Wii, in comparrision with themselves and Sony. Leeching onto Nintendo against Sony is a good move since they have no standing in the title for most powerful anymore. How many games will the Wii have on it's launch again ? 47 was it ?

Final Fantasy may use 3D Models now, but it makes no use of the Z-Axis at all. That's not influencing gameplay. FYI, Z-Axis is up and down in the third dimention. Fixed position ladders do not count.

Y Axis is up and down, X would be side to side and Z would be foward and back. 3D cannot be done without all 3. Not sure what else you were saying. But yeah, Y Axis is up and down.

Sony Being the New Neo Geo ? Maybe, but not quite as bad.

$1000.oo for the Neo Geo System, and $250.oo per game which at the time were actual arcade chips ( The cartrages were almost as big as the system ) I only knew 1 guy that had one, and he got suds out when Super Nintendo came along and silently put his Neo Geo to rest. No way Sony can be that bad. It would end Playstation forever.
I did pay $100.oo for Stret Fighter II when it first came out on Nintendo. That too would drive the playstation into the ground. Unless ofcoarse it delivers games we want as much as our personal goals.

.

Nintendo left behind Sony and Microsoft, by making the Wii the way it is.
When you think about it, What would you're reaction be if you were to walk in on someone you know playing the Wii right now ? I think i would really be excited to try, and just to see if what Nintendo said is true, i'd bring a Wii over to my mothers house and see if she would actually have fun with it. She's not into all this. But there was a time i remember she was laughing hard as she was smoking us all in that Track game that was used with the Power Pad on "Nintendo", Which was kinda frightening for some reason.

Anttaru, the Neo.Geo AES was $650 when it was released, and only a handful of games went as high as $250... though there were a few crazy ones.

Actually, all 3D axis put Z as the up/down axis. X is forewards/back, Y is left/right, Z is up/down. It makes sense, since a 2D image is flat, but when it is expanded into the third dimension, it now moves up and down which is the Z axis.

As for what skaw is saying, the character models are 3D, but not the levels. They're basically chute's and ladders; a 2D path with a ladder drawn on it to make it appear to be 3D. More advanced, obviously, but it's still a straight path with no actual vertical movement.

In Canada it was around that much.

As for the Beta tape. It could have been so much more. Even to this day Beta has better quality than VHS. I learned this in college when i was shocked to find a Beta tape in my work kit that was provided to me when i went to college.

VHS ate Beta cause Beta was Sony Onry, and VHS was able to do cool stuff ... Like pause and Rewind and slow mo. All the stuff that made us smile in the 80's. Maybe Sony was that last to make VHS.

I'm pretty sure Y is up and down, X is left and right and Z is foward and back. Very sure.

Oh that's more clear. They did this in FFVII, VIII, and IX.

This is a fourm of digital compositing, locators and displacement boarders made for a fixed canvas scene does not mean the model no longer follows the physics that allow it to be 3D. Only real difference is the model is staged before a locked camera. This is only a different technique used in the same software as what it used to make todays 3D games.

In 3D rendering terms, yes, the Z axis is the one that we look "into" as we look at a 3D scene. X is horizontal, Y is vertical. Hence, the X*Y resolution format, with a Z axis related in bit depth - referred to as a Z-buffer.

In 3D programming terms, yes, the Z axis goes "up and down", with the Y axis being the one that we look "into".

Ah, that would explain it. I've only seen the "programming method" for 3D representation, especially in math/engineering classes. I wasn't aware of a different standard for modeling, which is kinda sad since I know professional computer modelers

I'm not even refering to modeling ^_^ I'm referring to the internals of 3D graphics hardware.

Here is my non-complete non submitted QCDN Logo i made with the leading 3D software in movies and games. It's a perspective view. When looking at it in the Front Orthagraphic view, the XYZ Axis remains the same.

The Bottom left hand corner of the image you'll see the the Z in Blue and the X in Red, and the Green is the Y. It's always in line with the grid.

This is what i learned. I don't understand why it would change.

No clue, all I know was what I was taught for years in math was a different positioning of the xyz axis. It's odd that there'd be such different standards.

I was taught that you could make the axis any which way you wanted in math >.> just in calc III the teacher had Z-axis going up and down, Y-axis sorta left to right (with a tilt for that "3D effect), and X-Axis being the one "coming out" of the chalk board. In physic classes it was the X-Axis being left to right, Y-Axis being up and down, and Z-Axis being coming out of the chalk board (though most of the time in physics you screw with the coordinates anyways so that the X-axis will like.. bend over a cover or something XD)
