Bloody hell. Sega staffer Aaron Webber’s posted on the US PS Blog that the chance of an American localisation of Yakuza 3 “does still exist” and is a “big point of discussion” within the firm.

Here’s the post:

Yakuza 3 is not cancelled – and the possibility for localizing it does, in fact, still exist.

The original news story that went around about Yakuza 3 being declined for the US was false, and localizing the game still remains a big point of discussion for many people here at SEGA, and especially those of us on SEGA’s community team.I know it’s far from an announcement, but I just felt you should know that the chance does still exist.

Confirmed! Not at all, but still. Go mental! Thanks, Chris.

Kickass. Anyone here like the Yakuza series as well?

Sega isn’t wasting any time with the latest Yakuza title. According to the latest Famitsu issue, Yakuza 4 will be released exclusively for the Playstation 3 next spring in Japan.

As you may or may not recall, Yakuza Kenzan came out in Japan during the spring of 2008 while Yakuza 3 came out this past February in the same region. Fortunately, the quick development time hasn’t hurt the quality of the titles.

Yakuza 4 has not been confirmed for a North American release. The recently rumblings about a possible localization of Yakuza 3 to the west does bring hope to the upcoming Playstation 3 exclusive title, however.

Update: Famitsu also revealed that Yakuza 4 will have several new elements like weather changes and jumping from roof to roof.

Features:

Ryu ga Gotoku 4 (Yakuza 4):
Field has gained 3-dimensionality and it is now possible to go on rooftops and underground
Actions such as jumping from rooftop to rooftop included
Weather will change
Panchincko slots return
Karaoke has been improved; now includes duets
Hotsprings dates, pingpong during dates as well

3 main characters in addition to Kiriu
4 storylines played separately merge into one story
Nagoshi/Kikuchi/Yokoyama interview
-Free camera movement. Towns have become 3 dimensional and you can now go into manholes and what not.
-4x the enjoyment compared to before
-We'd like to deliver to our fans and everyone on the staff has the thinking "this is my job" so it's meeting and exceeding the best of our expectations.
-It's not non-cannonical, but rather, a new start
-We'd like for you to be able to see that the staff is really enjoying the freedom in developing this title
Nagoshi: This will become the most fun title in the RGG series

Pre-orders are up on amazon.co.uk, I'm pretty sure the same can be said for amazon.com.

Am I the only one here who got this game despite the things taken out during localization?

Edit: Oh yeah, also, Ryu Ga Gotoku 5 has been teased, and 4 is pretty much already on it's way to be the second best selling PS3 game in Japan so far (Nearly 500k units sold so far since it's Mid March release)

I didn't care so much about the content they cut out, but I didn't buy it out of principle. I don't half ass my work and expect people to pay for it and I wont buy other peoples half ass work. MW2 got the benefit of the doubt because I loved MW so much, but this game never had a leg to stand on for me.

I got it, the game is a hell of a lot better than GTA and I didn't care all that much about what they took out. I understand why they did it, and that they took out things that most people wouldn't get; so I don't really bitch about that. The game is still fun as hell.

Indeed. Finished my first playthrough of this last night, and while I would've liked to have done some of the things that were missing, it didn't detract from how much fun overall I had with this game (Plus it's at budget price in Japan, so it won't be too hard to import and play through with a translation guide handy). R* should probably pay attention to this series. Well, I'm definitely looking forward to getting Yakuza 4, though, unfortunately, it might not come over due to sales, once again... *sigh*

I think I recall Sega saying that they weren't going to be taking stuff out for Yakuza 4 if they brought it over, partially due to the outcry this time.

That is, IF they decide to bring it over. I think here in the UK it didn't even make the top 20, let alone the top 10.

I still want Yakuza Kenzan.
