For those of you who don't know, I've been leveling up NIN to sub with WAR. Well I've gotten to level 12, and with Utsusemi, I felt that it was time to hit the dunes. The party I was with was alright. We were chaining the mobs pretty well. I got to 13. Then an IT gob linked to us. We were able to finish off one, but not the other. At least half the party died, including me. We all HP'd, and a couple of the members disbanded because they died, blah blah. Some had their HP all the way in Ronfaure and Bastok. Then when we're all regrouping and getting new members at the Highlands zone, more gobs are zoned. I used Tonko to hide myself, but then I noticed that our leader was AFK while standing in a stupid spot to be AFK at. I voked the gob and zoned it, and then came back through and fought to call for help. Of course, more gobs are zoned and eventually I die from a bomb, and de-level to 12. Once I HP to the Bastokan banner 10 feet from where I died, I continue to help fight gobs. I used my two hour because I was going to die anyway, and this way I wasn't going to lose exp. Finally I just said "F*ck it" and told them I was going to log. I wasn't mad that I died, I was mad from all the stupididy that comes from the Valkurm Dunes. Something that I thought was even more stupid was the people quitting from dying, even though they lost only 300 exp or so. Not much to have to get back. Arg. I hate the dunes. I need to get to 15 so I can level in Korroloka Tunnel. :(

I sooo agree with you. I really hate when ppl leave a party when they die et even more when they HP on the other side of the world !!! :x
When ppl will understand that :
-> getting a raise in the dunes is far from being automatic !
-> they WILL die in the dunes, there is nothing to do about !
(I stop there, i dont want to start a new "home point you boobs" thread here ;) )

Good thing, I have noticed that generally it is the worst players who leaves thirst after a death or when XP are not clearly flowing. So I stay and if the party dont break, generally its getting better :)
But I must agree, XPing in the dunes is highly unreliable and very painfull, that why I generally try to solo all the way to 15.

EDIT :: oopsie, should learn to write english before posting here ...

"leave thirst" should have been spelled as "leave first" in my post ...

I know what you mean, I was actually in a great party in the dunes with my whm, we were chaining crabs and getting >100 xp per pop, and there was a japanese drk in our party who left the *first* time he died  I mean really? We weren't incompetent there was just too much lag to heal on a really tough snip. I think I'd already died like twice by this point too but there was no way I was going to drop from a party like that! I saw the guy sitting around in selbina like an hour later still searching for a party. Sometimes you gotta swallow your pride if you wanna get the xp. Something is always better than nothing, and because he was bein racist he got nothin.

On the lighter side, I had an absolutely wonderful experience in the dunes yesterday. (Can you believe it? Believe it or not! :P)

I was in La thiene as that's where i logged the previous night, I put up my seek sign and within a few minutes i got a /tell asking me if id like an exp party. So I join, I was working on Sam at the time just for the heck of it really, and because it looks like it will be a fun sub for Drk, I also have to raise some CP to purchase my lvl 40 gear; good way to get both accomplished.

Anyways we start out with just 3 of us (sam/war, pld/war, blm/sum). These guys knew what they were doing we had fun cutting our way to the dunes, picking up a whm/sum friend of thiers along the way. They're talking to each other about a static party they're forming and such. We get to the dunes and we pick up a Brd and a Drg. Having a rank above 3 is a great help, as that was what the guy was going by when he gathered the people, higher rank and adv jobs. (not that the normal jobs are bad or anything, they're great too).

We were a lvl 10-11 group, went into the dunes, found a nice spot in the konstanch zone area and went to town on all the lizards. Non-stop pulling and killing, 150-200+ exp kills, good SC executions. Hands down we were the BEST party in the dunes at that point, I'd put money on it.

I was only in the group for about 30 minutes after we got situated in Valkrum because i had to get ready for work, but in that short amount of time I leveled to 12 and was more than halfway to 13. thats like atleast 4k exp. Doesnt sound like much if you think of it from a high lvls perspective, but at Valkrum, even though we were surrounded by constant /shouts of stupidity, we did an awesome job. Unfortunately I only remember the leaders name, he did an excellent job and I dunno, maybe some of you know him. Kahuna, thanks man. :D

as my rdm leveling in valk the first time, i probobly died at least 15 times, i leveled my bard through valkrum, not 1 death  A: because i learn to run fast when the monster is beating down on the last member on my side ^^; an also, made a LS party, nin/war brd/rdm (me) thf/something blm/whm smn/whm and there was some other melee @_~ went from 15 or 16 to 24, in 2 days, we had to go the first day, and they said, meet at 6 thre next day, and got the 3 more levels needed for me to hit 24.

I So Hate Valkrum The Like You Guys Said
Its like This Valrum=n00b nest i de lvl to 16 there 3 times!! Hate Noobs, Lucky for me last night i got in a party and went from 16-19 with 1/2 tnl 20

I Im so gettin to 20 as fast as possible!! Qufim and Chocobo Here I come :0 :)

But Just Asking

Is 19 A Good Lvl To Go To Qufim With 1/2 tnl till 20?? :?:

Yeah you should be fine in Qufim as a 19. I know some people who like to go there at 18, even... with a good party, level 19 shouldn't be an issue.

I agree ... I almost always go to Qufim now as a lvl 18 ... I get outa the Dunes as fast as possible ... the Dunes just aren't the same as when I first went there ...

Another nice spot is K Tunnel right before you go to Qufim ... you can level there til you're 20 ...

The dunes have pretty much always sucked. No matter what anyone says, the PS2 release didnt change anything about the fundamental problem with the dunes. The problem is that it is the first party experience a lot of the peolpe in the dunes have. It just takes a little time to find a good party in the dunes, just dont go excluding everyone who is new otherwise they dont learn anything.

What the PS2 release did do was create a lot of new users (myself included) who didnt really know what to expect, same thing goes for the PC release. I think the higher up you go, the more aweful the dunes seems because you are used to dealing with veteran players. But I'll bet anyone any money that the first time they went into the dunes they werent thinking, "OMFG what a bunch of n00bs!!!!!11oneoneone" for one simple reason, they didnt know any better. So please, next time you are in the dunes take a new player or two under your wing.

Only you can prevent n00bs!

id recomend lvling your sub first though

Again I agree ... underleveled subs is a big nono in my book ... if I'm a leader and you have an underleveled sub I will not invite you ... do your "job" right and level those subs to your mains ...

Now if you're goin' to Qufim for the first time and have no sub then I will invite you ... I like helping the new person get their level 20 so they can get their Chocobo license and then go on to level their subjob ...

Come on guys brighten up about the dunes it could be worse and have gob trains every 30 seconds and have everything aggro including the ground. Or be the laggiest place in the world . I <3 VALKURM :P no actually I hate it with all my heart it is great though when you get a good pt.

I'm going to have to go ahead and disagree with you. What the dunes has now, after the ps2 release is a bunch of idiot kids who can't listen to directions and WON'T listen. Player 1 says you need to do this to be function in a party and player 2 says OMG DON'T U TELL ME WUT 2DO YOU FGT! I don't mind teaching people who are willing to learn and in fact i've taught people what to do many many times. I enjoy helping people who listen, but there's a point in which you just get kind of sick of telling someone what to do and they should know. Just my 2 gil :)

I do agree that there are a lot of "idiot kids" in the dunes, however there are a LOT of potential good players there. Odds are most of the "idiot kids" wont stay much longer than their 30 day trial because they either cant work in a group, or just dont really like the game. And again, please dont generalize PS2 players as n00bs, I play on PS2 and I happen to think I play pretty well, despite my "handicap" :D

-Ham

You guys gotta remember that most PS2ers are in their 50's on main or 20-30s on their adv. jobs. The fact is that even the bad players are getting to Garlaige now. I've had a theif at lvl 33 in my party who refused to learn how to SATA, a drg at lvl 32 who never heard of SATA and tried to tank (while im a PLD) and a white mage who decided that macroes were gay so he(or she, never know with char models) just used his scroll function to select the cure spells. Welcome to hell everyone! Anyway, I think Crawler's Nest has a bigger problem with trains.

I'd rather spend eternity in the dunes than one day in Kazam....

Not I, I flew through the Dunes an really couldn't get mad at people for messing up bigtime if they were new. Then I hit Kaz and it's been a neverending struggle for over 2 weeks now.
