Not like anyone cares but the main reason I quit FFXI was because I was addictied. I would go to bed wondering what I would get the next day, and wake up doing it. Well, I really want to come back to my friends on Quetzalcoatl now, except I don't really wanna come back if i'm still addicted.

If I played again I would probaby play Beastmaster because I would never have to worry about someone else to group with. the last job I played was THF, and thats alot of the reason why I was addicited because I would LFP for very long amounts just waiting for an invite.

Could someone help me with my problem?

discipline! Make sure you don't play XI every day, have other things IRL that you enjoy doing as well. If you are able to spend time away from XI without thinking/talking about it then you should be safe to come back and play :p

I have scheduled times that I play. That way I don't get crazy with it. I do sometimes stay up later than I should, but I try to make that a once a while type of thing. I usually happens when I get into a really good JP party that I can't tear myself away from.

being addicted is an aditude, if your an adicted type of person then you'll be adicted by things... no real way to fix that other than that you gotta seperate it from yourself... i will probly be quitting soon too... ive reached the end time to continue life.(PS im 75 thf so i hear ya)

Since I started the game I've fluctuated from the stage in which I was playing the game more hours per week than I worked at my fulltime job and other times hardly ever playing. For now it isn't an issue. One of the best things I did to really break the habit was erase my main during a moment of frustration and it became unretrivable... Now I am a noob again without a subjob and really don't feel like going through it all again. So I putz around now and again when bored. I can see the end to my account quickly approaching. I've been in this game since US release and I think the only thing that keeps me from quitting all the way is knowing that I haven't uncovered all the storyline... Something in me feels there is something left to accomplish.

We'll see what happens. On one hand I have played 7 different characters in my time on this server (non mules through sub-job) so maybe I'll catch the fever again. For now I am enjoying playing pool, dancing, exersize, dancing, ect.

If you see Dungwader around give me a wave.

Start another MMO and play that at the same time, then you'll get hooked on two and you'll be halfway to solving your problemo because then you'll have 1/2 of your addiction on each game... then quit the other... Then you're problems are solved, I guarantee you'll be playing FFXI half the time or less!

Just limit yourself, Set yourself a certain amount of playtime and do go over, start a hobby to do while you're not allowed to play on FFXI.

I quit for the same reason, poor time management skills. I would play all night and think about it all day. As a result everything in my life was going to hell. Even though I really loved the game, it just wasn’t worth the sacrifices I was making to play. If you feel that you are that out of control, and that your life is suffering then it is the best thing you can do to quit the game. Because when it comes down to it, this is just a game and is no substitute for real life.

I play honestly all day every day, and I know it sounds crazy, but I'm not addicted. Every time finals came up, I forced myself to stay off the Internet and consoles completely for two weeks--it wasn't easy but I got through it every time.:P Just because you play all day doesn't mean you are addicted, however there is a high possibility.

However, what you described does sound like an addiction, because during the rare times that I'm not playing, I am mostly thinking about baseball.

Good for you to realize your addiction and cut it off rather than allow it to consume you. That's one of the hardest things we humans can do.:D

I'm addicted to gaming in general, and a big part of it is MMO"s, not just FFXI. I've played various MMO's in my day, in which if I liked them it usually meant I was at teh computer for 12-15 hours a day when I didn't have anything better to do.

however, lately I've been getting frustrated with FFXI. Farming 30k an hour for 3 milllion is not fun, in any twisted sense of the term, and it had been hard to me to even log on without immediately feeling depressed.

However, recently it turned out there wasn't enough money in my account recently to pay the monthly fee (though I have money I can put in it) I've decided to take an extended break to get my life on track. I'm still addicted to gaming though, when I'm not being addicted to FFXI I'm playing Pokemon Emerald furiously until that doesn't hold my interest.

Point is I guess that I feel your pain addiction wise, and really the only way you can get over it is to take some time off from the game itself, and to keep a sharp eye on your playtime. Being addicted to the game isn't a bad thing if you make sure not to neglect your IRL stuff, as long as you're getting what you need to done, shouldn't matter if you're addicted.

It's not an addiction unless it starts to not only interfere with--but actually hurts-- your daily activities. School, work, friends, family. There are probably more than a few of us who have gone to class with bags under our eyes because of what we did online the night before. But that same thing applies to frequent and sometimes severe intoxication on Thursday nights. A college student isn't considered an alcoholic until it starts hurting them. Failing grades. Family conflict. Mental or physical inability to go without.

If you think about it when you're not playing--more than you think you should--that's enough reason to cut back. That you feel guilty about it means that you're playing too much in your opinion. Respect your own opinion. Generally as far as games go, you think about it because you play so much. If you cut back, you won't think about it so much, and you'll look back and think, "Gee it wasn't THAT important or entertaining."

Absense doesn't make the heart grow fonder. Familiarity does. Absense disengages it. It's good that you can catch these things early, because playing too much leads to caring about it too much leads to more playing leads to more caring...and eventually there are consequences that really hurt you.

No kidding. That is so me. Right now, I HAVE to farm to move forward. I'm broke, and need 1.5 mil in gear to be satisfied with my performance (hopefully).

I haven't been on in four nights, becuase I know all I have to look forward to is killing the same three mobs endlessly. I was the same way when I had to lvl thf to 15. I hate the dunes, and didn't want to even get on.

When I lvled my dark this last time I was on every single night, till late as heck, and got if from 32-45 in about two weeks or so. Thats included time spent farming.

I don't like the fact you have to do things that you hate in order to be successful in this game. That is the whole reason I have trouble with school. You have to learn all this garbage those does not seem relative, and couldn't care less about.

I guess the game is good enough to make us spend hours doing extremely borring tasks, in order to spend hours having a good time.

The more I talk about it, the less I want to play, lol.
