HARDENED police officers have been shocked by the horrifying torture, mutilation and brutal slaying of a seven-month-old fox terrier pup "PEANUT" at Moranbah.

Jonathon Connor Blake, 20, and Trent William Cunniffe 24, (the accused) did not apply for bail.

Police have obtained video footage from a mobile phone that shows graphic images of the puppy yelping and howling in terrible pain as it is hacked to pieces.

Animal rights experts have described the case as one of the worst and most horrific in Australian history. Police will allege that a pair of garden shears and a pocket knife were used to torture and kill the little puppy.

Moranbah police said the dog was a family pet and the owners were too distressed and upset to talk to anyone about it.

The pup's nose was cut off, its front right leg and rear left leg were cut off and it was decapitated. His stomach was cut open from neck to tail.

Police will say the dog was stolen from a residence in Railway Parade in Moranbah and was taken to a lookout in the town. Congealed blood and dog hairs were found on picnic tables at the lookout.

A three-part video series on a mobile phone shows the dog being tortured. The final stages of the video show the dog's mutilated body parts. The dog's body was found about 3.50am on Monday near the town's campdraft ground. It was dumped beside a road.

Police were attending a car accident when they discovered the dog's body. After seizing the mobile phone, police recovered a set of garden shears which had dog hair and blood on them. Police also took possession of the clothes worn by two men in the car, for scientific testing.

"Senior police officers were visibly shaken after viewing the footage. Police and the RSPCA say that if the allegations are true this could well be the worst case of animal cruelty ever brought before the courts in Australia," RSPCA's Queensland Chief Inspector Michael Pecic said.

"This is very, very disturbing," Mr Pecic said.
"For legal reasons this is really all I can say at the moment. But when you talk to senior police officers who have seen a lot of carnage in their time and they say it shocked even them, then you begin to get the picture."
Footage from the attack has been suppressed by police until the outcome of the court case.

The maximum penalty under the Animal Care and Protection Act for such an offence is $75,000 or two years in jail; however, the maximum penalty ever handed out has been a four-month jail term.

Both men were charged in the Mackay Magistrate's Court with stealing a dog, wilfully and unlawfully killing it, wilfully damaging a gate, and unlawful possession of marijuana, all at Moranbah on Monday.

I have been told by another concerned animal lover this little dog tried to escape on the bloodied stumps away from these people who slaughtered it in the end.

Wow, what a bunch of sick and twisted individuals. Sad what happened to that puppy, I hope they get done to them what they did to the poor animal.

I just don't understand what is wrong with people. Hopefully someone will shank these two fuckers and do the world a favor.
 
Max sentence being 2 years doesn't seem like it'll really teach much.
 
Disturbing doesn't begin to cover it. Things like this - needless, brutal violence like this - make me really wonder what the hell is wrong with people. You have to be a special kind of screwed up to do something this barbaric, and it's something a 7k fine and a few weeks in jail isn't gonna fix.
 
Call me a coward, But having two dogs at home, I had to stop reading when it went into detail. Just makes you wonder what the hell would make you want to do something so terrible to something so innocent and defenceless. These two bastards need to be a taught a lesson themselves...
 
In my opinion people having such disregard for life should not be allowed to walk the streets ever again.
What makes me even more sad is that people like this even have the option of pleading mental illness and are able to get away with it.

And even in my opinion it won't be enough, I hope the judge won't buy the mental illness farce and will give them the maximum possible punishment for the crimes they commited.
 
These fucktards should be jailed for more then 2 years and pay a good ammount of money to the family that owned the dog -.-

It begins with a pet, and what's next? Move on to things that give a larger kick, like a baby? a 5-year old?

i had to force myself to read it, i started tearing up . then i went and gave my dog a couple extra biscuits. the lil pup was real cute too
 
Quite disgusting.

Coming from a person who's dealt with most types of animal, and has seen things that give nightmares, that story is just disgusting. (I've delivered a calf once who didn't develop properly and had it's intestines spilled all over me, while it was still alive.)

Doing veterinary work can give a stone heart towards animals, but that story is sick. I hope those people get more than what they deserve. Either by the legal system or w/e.
 
I'm a sucker for fuzzy faces and I can't imagine anyone doing this sort of thing. Those men should be institutionalized and never allowed back in society again. They've proven that they cannot be allowed to roam the streets ever again.

Personally, I love animals more than people. To me, this is just a serious as torturing and murdering a young child.
 
was thinking they cut off the puppy's nose while it was alive. maybe the should slowly cut off their noses and other parts . sorry being a dog lover and owning the best dog ever this has me fuming. sign the petition guys

I am not going to write down what I actually want to have happen to those people.

It's people doing stuff like that that brings the monster out in me.
 
Just to have the idea of doing such things is bad enough. That two guys shared the same ideas and then systematically cut this poor puppy up, while doing a 3 part video of the butchering, after hearing the puppy yelping is pure evil. They just hacked up something completely innocent and helpless. That was someone's pet that they loved very much. To let these guys off with anything under the max is not an option in my mind. Such a case calls for review/adjustment of the current maximum penalties.

Same thing should be done to them with garden shears and a pocket knife, imo. Fuckers.

… The amount of jail time for things like this is never long enough. If they were disturbed enough to do this to an animal, they are disturbed enough to do this to anything. Poor defenseless puppy.
 
There is yet another very disturbing side to this. Oftentimes serial/rital killers start off doing just this very thing. I hope the courts realize this and are somehow able to monitor these guys for a long time after their jailtime/probation.
