Dear n00bs without subjob:

If you think you may need to use your 2 hour, you do need to use your 2 hour.

Nothing pisses me off more than benediction hitting party, minus MY FUCKING CORPSE.

White mages don't want to use Bennediction because when they do it's an almost sure death sentance for them....

Ah, I see, so Warriors should do all of the dying. I see. But, if they're GOING to use it, USE IT BEFORE I GODDAMN DIE.

If I have confidence in my warriors ability I'll use Bennediction. If my warriors an idiot I won't. It's a matter of opinion, why should the WHM be the only one to die? To save you? What makes your character more important than theirs?

I'll use it for sure if it's just a bad pull or something happens in an otherwise good party, but frankly a lot of the time a WHM has to use Benne is when it's not such a good party.

i would like to add a new rule to that one.......STOP USING MACROS THAT HAVE NORMAL TELLS.....HELL JUST GET RID OF THE "PHRASE" THAT GOES ALONG WITH WHATEVER ABILITY/SPELL YOUR USING!
there isnt anything more annoying then hearing "let me heal that for you" 500 times in a pt

Some flavor text that I hear all the damn time and has pretty much no originality.

Provoke:
"Your fight is with me Underpants Gnome!"
"Get Over Here Purple People Eater!"
"Your mother's so fat she sat on a rainbow and skittles popped out, <t>!" (or misc insult)

Cure:
"This will make you feel better"
"Get ready for some major curing"
"God give me the power to heal <t>" (or other religious hooplah)
"Hold still <t> while I take care of that for you"

Raise:
"Clear! zzzzap!"
"LIIIIVE!"

i Think the Raise ones are acceptable, since they wont be spaming them. i like mine ^^

/s I will now <Raise> <t>.

/s while no fee is required, donations are apreciated.

I like Raise Text Macro's. They make the sheer Joy of me Raising someone even more Fun, when they don't like my text macro. I once had someone actually /tell me not to Raise them anymore because they didn't like my Macro.
Maybe it's just that I have to give someone Crap, even when I'm raising someone.

i'm at a low enough level that i really don't have to worry about dying with my whm. the whole time i was partying, would use benediction without hesitation when needed. I LOVED pulling the hate onto me and dying for the party. best thing about it is that once the beast turns around, hes faced with 5 full hp fighters, who are all very, very pissed that the monster killed thier friend.

and i have macro text thingys only for spells i don't spam. which basicly means none for cure.

fun thing about benediction is that it is a trade. Trade the life of the WHM for the safety of everyone else and the overall greater good. That is why it causes SO much hate. Remember SE makes things happen for a reason.
It's up to the whm to understand this and realize that the party does not revolve around his/her life, but around everyone as whole.
Expect death after bene, don't panic and run around the place, embrace death and remember your sacrafice. I guess Benediction can be treated more like a Mijin Gakure with a little more purpose to it. (Now that i think about it, Mijin Gakure is horrible in party situations). Then when all is good, re-raise. If the you the WHM is next to a zone, by all means pop it then zone IMMEDIATELY.
The WHM sacrafice is almost pointless if the tank is already dead of course :P

Of course in the dunes it's different cause you have a bunch of newbies that don't understand hate dynamics yet, but anytime i leveled my whm i always thought of benediction like that. In the dunes i've done that.... then HPd it (dunes outpost). At that low a level, losing exp is nothing so i was totally satisfied with my decision. I did that in yuhtunga jungle as well.

Well, that certainly is one uniquely optimistic view of using benediction.

Personally, I feel there's only two acceptable reasons for a whm to use Benediction.

The first being low-less low level whms (1-40 roughly), if things start to go bad towards the end of a fight; ei. things start to go bad, the mob has low hp, but so does about half the party. Benediction is okay here, because if the whm uses it, there is a pretty good chance they'll still come out alive, IF THEY STAND STILL then the rest of the party is free to whail on the mob and quite possibly kill it before the whm dies.

**What I see most often is, mob has half health still, party is starting to get beat up, whm low on mp - Benediction! NO.. because then the whm dies, and unless everyone already started running everyone else will drop. Or once the whm uses benediction, he starts running around like he/she is on fire. Hello? We cant fight the mob if its moving, and then the whm dies, pissed because we didnt kill it. WTF.** (will refer back to this at bottom)

Second acceptable reason, is once you get into higher level parties. Tanks have more abilities at thier disposal for removing hate, theres the trusty Thf SaTa, multiple provokes from anyone who has it, as well as all the hate grabbing techniques jobs have. As a Drk/War I even help out by provoking, then using souleater, last resort, and nuking if need be.

Thing is at the higher levels, Its possible to get rid of the hate that benediction gets, at lower levels, benediction's an end battle last resort.

Nobody wants their whm to get killed, at any level. A good tank can keep this from happening 100% of the time. Until Benedition is used (at low levels).

When I was starting out as a War and War/Mnk, I tell you, I was the best damn tanking warrior you ever saw ^^ *blush* Key is to have distance between the melee and the mages. A good party knows this. That distance is there so if the tank loses hate he/she has a few seconds to hit that provoke macro and regain control of the hate. In that few seconds the mob is running over to whatever mage got the hate, but the distance allows it not to be able to reach the mage before provoke is used. Basically the mob would at most only get halfway between the melee and mages, and turn around to fight the tank again. It's a relatively simple strategy, and it saves mages from even having to get touched, assuming they have a good quick tank, and the blms dont nuke.

**In the situation noted with ** the best thing to do in a failing party is for the tank to sacrifice him/herself for the sake of the team, not the whm. What I would do as tank is tell everyone to disengage and zone immediately "or you will die" as they are running away I give it my all, I havent played pally yet, but if i was one id use my 2hr and start running the oppisite direction from my teamates as well as be using what ever defense buffs i might have. As a warrior I use whatever defense buffs I have and continue fighting the mob while walking backwards away from the direction my teamates went. **

This gives them all a larger gap from the mob, when I die, they live and escape to saftey. As a tank I certainly dont mind taking one for the team, its pretty much your job. And your teamates will appreciate the tank taking one for the team a lot more than the whm being killed. Generally speaking the whm's like it better that way too. ^^

O.o Oye this is a long post. heh

I don't mind taking ONE (1) for the team. Taking five in one hour is quite another thing indeed. All I'm asking is for the WHM to be willing to eat a death once for every TEN TIMES I died - and you missed the other point: In the PT I was in, he used it - but he waited until I was dead.

As I said, it can happen. at the most, every two hours. Whoopty shit. My sympathy is less than Sabia's was when Lokkin was begging for easy gil a while back.

Who decided that the WHM was TEH MOST IMPORTANT PARTY MEMBER and that WHM EXP is special and pure while Melee EXP is unimportant?

I'm really beginning to come around to views espoused by Krono and Ellah:

That most WHM levels are founded on piles of WAR corpses.

That WHM have way too high opinion of their value relative to the team.

Yes, WHM, you are important - but let's see you fucking level without tanks.

Lol this is kinda the reason I do my best not to have a WHM in parties when I can help it. Not that I hold anything against them...there is just never a time when a WHM is NEEDED. I prefer something like Blm, Blm, Nin, Sam, Rng, and then whatever else you got out there. Its rather funny cause I always have two Blm or a Blm and Rdm or some such combo. When I see a Pld I think "Ok there is main healer". Its hilarious when people come in and say "Where is the Whm." I mean a Whm can do one thing well, heal. Now in the parties that I like to play in, healing is a minor factor. Ninja tanks are by far the best in the game to me. After I play with one for a while, I get to the point where I pull hate on cue when shadows go down and let them put them up before they voke as Rng. It is funny cause everyone vokes the SECOND it turns to me and Im like hey guys, I got three free shots, its cool. I must be mistaken cause yeah I'm fragile, but oh well... Simple fact is that the faster the enemy dies, the less healing will be required. Well unless you have like 6 blink tanks just killing slowly but that is besides the point. Seriously, you have like three decent people in a party, and Whm suddenly becomes an unneeded luxury. I'll never overlook a Whm though. I mean if all I see seeking are 5 other people and one is a Whm I wont be like "Screw that".

On a different note, have you ever noticed that once the healing power dies, mainly Whm, that suddenly the party kicks it in high gear. I recall yesterday, we were fighting near the banishing gate and there were two parties down there. Plenty of guys to kill I was happy to notice. Well it was Rng, Rng, Blm, Whm, War, War. Now we didnt have the prime spot of right in front of the gate we were off to the left at the dead end. So we just got done killing something, and suddenly a Beetle pops. We had no choice but to engage and we were in danger zone. Whm at 90 mp and party in yellow. So the Whm gets killed, not sure how but it happened. Not much I could do as I had no voking method as sharpshot was down. So anyways, we are stuck with this beetle and and its at like 4/5 health and were in the yellow. Suddenly everything came together and wow. We fucking went off. A War used Mighty Strikes but that was the only difference. Me and this Rng just started bouncing hate back and forth perfectly. The Blm didnt overnuke and the War's paid attention to when to voke. Well we basically slaughter this bastard with the same situation we started with. Well while our Whm was recovering I was thinking about how amazing that was. I mean its like desperation really makes you fight like mad. I wonder what happens if people fight like that all the time. I have heard of 8k an hour, perhaps that is it. Just wondering if anyone else has had this experience.

i will only say one thing.

Please for the love of god if you are a mage, ANY mage and you take aggro.

STAND

STILL.

again

STAND STILL.

The best way for a melee to get hate off a mage is to let that melee hit the mob. If you are running around guess what. the mob can still hit you!!!! and the melee cant hit it!!!!

that is all.

I remember a wee lil Drewtaru in valkurm dunes.... partying in J6... probably has his first ever miscast. Happens to hit a nearby bunny instead of the target and runs.
Some good people in my party shouted for me to stop running in which i did and i lived^^
about 10 mins later i miscasted on a sheep.... same thing....... Blm taru basic instinct = run away..... members shouted same thing.... i lived again.......
from then on... i have learned......

I've used Mijin Gakure in a party situation for a good purpose. If the party is going to die or there is a link, get the hate (if you can, I'm always tank so I usually have hate) tell party to zone, run opposite direction and when close to death Mijin Gakure.

Party is saved, no experience loss, YAY.
