OMFG Optimum Online has fucked over FFXI players

I live in the Nj area, and as of today, Optimum Online has decided to block off Port 25. Which means that people in the NJ/NY/CT states that use Optimum Online can no longer connect to POL viewer and log into Final Fantasy XI.

I'm trying to fucking control myself, but after 4 days of work and school, 2 exams, and finally one day off, I'm faced with this shit. I hope this is temporary and gets fixed soon. Hundreds of people are calling Cablevision right now, and I honestly do not want to give up Optimum (150-230kbs is something that I do not want to lose).

If it does not get resolved, looks like I may either quit the game or switch providers. I'm so angry right now, I'm gonna go break something. :evil:
 
damn thats weak sorry Pupusa keep those complaints going. Just use it to slander the poor lamb on the other side of the phone, breaking and hitting shit while sometimes a reliver (till the pain sets in) doesnt help much.
 
This sucks, but you really have to place the blame with SE. It's not unusal for ISPs to block port 25. The POL Viewer should still let you into the game, even if it can't reach you under port 25.
 
Yep, I have optimum online as well. Just lost connection about 10 minutes ago and can't log back lol. Indeed it's very disappointing but at least I can catch up on some studying :cry:
 
I have never noticed POL accessing Port 25. Port 25 is a registered port for SMTP (Outgoing Email). I will start up the game and monitor to verify that it dosn't use it for any form of authentication. Almost all ISP's block this port and require you to use there SMTP server to relay email, so they can monitor your account for send spam.

This was checking email from inside the POL Viewer then Loggin onto FFXI

As you can see the game has yet to access port 25. This is from a Playstation, but the PC should be using the same protocals. Since port 25 is a registered port, and there are Internet Standards assigned to it, POL should not be using it, in any way outside that defined in the RFC.
 
I smell refunds and prorated bills.
 
I have sent them my connection log, maybe that will help them track down where the problem is.

Whose dumbass idea at SE was it to make FFXI use port 25? 25 is SMTP -> lots of scanning from people looking for open relays, etc. Stupid stupid SE. :evil:

What is getting me is there level 1 tech support keeps giving there users differnt BS reasons.

Bah, half the time tech support's just a call center whose goal is to get people off the phone as quickly as possible. :evil:

wow... I thought the server was just down.. It logs in, checks my username/password, then it hangs up on 'Retrieving friend list data..' and disconnects after 15 sec or so..
..This.. isn't good.. :shock:

I'm hoping a solution to this comes soon, I'm starting to twitch..
 
Same area here btw, northern NJ.. And otherwise Optimum Online is the best ISP I've ever used by far, I use it for internet, telephone, and TV so switching is barely an option.. If it dosent get resolved this may be the end for me :(

Man, 417 responses on Alakazham about it since this morning.. OptOnline has pretty much said that they arent planning on re-opening the port, so if any resolution comes of it, it seems as if it's going to have to be on SE's part by providing an alternate port to connect through. Had to be on my day off work too :evil:
