Thought of this after TonberryPrincess sent me a message in game the other day.

She was talking about how guys on FFXI get all pre-pubescent(sp?) and giddy whenever they see a girl. Maybe not the right choice of words...
Hmm...Immature???...Stupid???...Lamez0rz???

Anyway.
>.<

Every time I'm in a PT, we have at least 1 girl with us...
Which is great...I guess...For the kids/people/whatever who live on their computers and rarely get to see girls...

I forgot where I was going with this...
>.>
Wait...Hold on...

*thinks*

...

Oh yeah.
>.<;;

How often do you think guys will play the role of a girl on FFXI?
Not just choosing a Female character...
But actually ACTING like they are a girl IRL.

Does this disturb you?

General take on girls in the gaming world???

I act like a girl all the time.

Wait... are we talking about FFXI?

If you ARE girl...
Have you noticed, in FFXI, the same retardness from guys that mostly all girls experience in other games???

I treat girls in my linkshell the same as I treat the guys, with meaness, sarcasm, and random mushroom stampings.

All kidding aside. Doesn't bother me when a guy playing a girl character tells me he's a girl. Mostly because:

A.) I didn't ask.

2.) Which means, I don't care.

I'm not looking to get a girlfriend. I'm perfectly capable of keeping my raging hormones at bay when around a a girl, or guy/girl. Heck, I'm a manthra myself. I just play the game to have fun, not treating it as a huge online dating service like some people. *rolls eyes*

I dunno. I created a female character on WoW though (only play it with my cousin), and I act female on it when I play together with her. Its fun messing with the guys, lol.

My sentiments, exactly.
=3

I dont treat girls any differently than guys. As far as I am concerned, they are part of the community just like the rest of us. Gender has no impact on stats, armor type (unless its things like Femina Subligar or the Opaline Dress or something like the RSE) and they can do just as much, and surpass, guys all the time.

Generally speaking, females have a small but increasing place in the gaming community, and it's not because they are excluded or biased against, it's mostly honestly because most of them don't want to be a part of the gaming community. A lot of guys these days DO play video games, and 80% of the time a girl who also lots video games is extremely attractive to a gamer male on that point alone (of course, us being males, a lot of other things come into account...)

I attend Full Sail, most of you have probably heard of this college, and I'm currently in the game design program. There's (and I kid you not) about 1 girl for every 100 guys that attend that degree. That alone says a lot. Most girls are just simply not into video games.

As for guys playing girls, I've heard a lot, and I mean a lot, of excuses. Some I think are valid, some are just bullshit. You hear a lot about guys saying they rather not star at a guy's backside all day. I can go with that, personally I envision myself as my character since I'm big on D&D and rpg's ect, so playing a female character would be... akward.

Some realisticaly picked it for stats, mithra have no male version and a few might of liked their stats and gone with them anyways, since it is after all just a game. There's a lot more reasons, and most of them I'm ok with.. but when it comes down to guys playing like girls, I have a few problems with that.

First of all, unless the male is gay (this is not intended as an offense, I have nothing against gay people) the only logical reason a male would play as a girl is for something wrong. I've seen manthra I know play as the oh so sexually greedy gal to get free stuff. I've seen them do it just to make fun of people, because as I'm sure you all agree getting someone into an online relationship (something else I disagree with) and then halfwaythrough saying "SURPRISE! We're really BOTH guys, hahaha got you!" is SO funny. >.>

Seriously, I can see reasons and have no problem with guys playing girls or girls playing guys. It IS a R.ole P.laying G.ame (RPG smarties). But I think the line is drawn when guys (sorry about being gender specific, the simple fact is not a lot of girls play MMO's) act as girls with another other intent then roleplay or because they are gay.

Honestly I don't see why everyone does the "OOO, a girl" crap in a video game. Cause... well.. it's a video game. WHERE I female, and someone hit on me in a game, I'd straight forward say "sex me, sex me now". Because... I'd die laughing imagining someone humping their screen. (Yes I know about cybering, let's not get into that though. I promise you the gamble goes for 94.3% chance the other "partner" is a guy, which is good or bad depending on weither or not you are a guy, girl, or gay)

Honestly though, the interenet is 80% crap/porn/spam/and other internet evils (that are sometimes pretty good *cough*), 10% assholes, 5% 15 year olds and under, 4% wasted, pointless, purgatory space , and 1% gold. Because it IS possible to suck at the internet. Striking 1% takes skill <.<

Yes.

I generally tell them I don't do this stuff online and to leave me alone.

Sanjo You go to Full Sail? O.o?! you must aim me i have some questions about it

back to subject, it used to bother me at first when a guy played a girl but now it doesn't.

I noticed that most guys that play girl chars aren't as openly perverted as guys in guy chars. Which makes me think they are actually more mature. Weird eh?

I quote from the Innercircle master

"I rather be looking at a girl's ass than a hairy galka or elves, ass anyday"

The guy in guy chars are very perverted and open about it.

The chars we pick and choose show our personality, think about it the next time you see one.

:banghead3: I'm a girl in real life, but for some reason I'm always mistaken as a guy playing a female character on the game. :nono: I always blow my fuse when stuff like that happens >:/ is it because I act too manly? I dunno. Just thought it was an appropriate topic to post on this thread
Interesting thought.. how many girls play male characters? :shok:

Good response, though.

GIRLS OMG!

But yeah i doubt there are as many girls playing guy characters as there is guys playing girls. Thats just my thought. On my first account i played with a dude who i thought was a chick for awhile (i only played to 25 so it was only like a month or so) and when i asked why he played a girl character he said "because id rather see a chicks ass walking around instead of a dudes" it made me lol.

I forgot to point out a rule of thumb...

Most taru females are actually females...

LOL that is funny. It would make sense as to why so many guys play girl characters.
Of course there is always the reason to act like a chick, seduce another male (?) character, and steal lots of gil :nono:
I'm sure there are plenty of other reasons too, though.

RaiderX you stole my thunder...>.<

If you stick to MMO 101: All players are assumed male unless proven otherwise, then nothing will be disturbing.

IMHO people can do whatever floats their boat, but if one is a Mangina, then he should either make it known ahead of time, or never ever mention it. The drama occurs when males play females, and at some point admit that they are males after having cybered other males as females, or other females as females, or other perceived females as females in which case no one should be upset as both put up an illusion.

It's called Roleplaying Game for a reason ...
