OMG Girl!? WHERE!?!?

I'm a female in real life... the one lucky enough to be married to Chasym. I play a mithra. Of course I was gonna play a female char, but I looked at each one's stats, and not knowing what job I wanted, Mithra looked the best to me. After I told a rl friend what I picked he was like... lolsexobject. I didn't care. It was just me.

In pts and such, I don't think I've been called a she/her automatically. I usually get called him and I'll correct them. They seem shocked for a second and then go on. But, I'm thinking the ones that act all O.O and keep going are usually the younger or newer players to the game. The higher you get in levels, the less it seems to be a shock.

I usually don't make comments about who's female or how many females are in the party except with friends or linkshell family. Like the other night, we went to fight the random ring NM and get Dvucca SP. I laughed cuz out of the 8 of us that went, I was the only girl. Another time, a group of us went to get our RSE. We were joking around in LS chat because it was three Mithras who were also female IRL. One of our friends came along with us to help make the killing easier. Someone jokingly said you'r'e not female, you can't go.

I don't think I was ever offered something in game for free just because I was a female... and I don't think I could take anything for that matter.

I'm a girl IRL, and play a Mithra. People often call me he/him, and I don't blame them. I do the same from time to time. I just correct them and move on. Sometimes people don't believe me, seeing as I tend to be flirty with girls more than guys, but that's to be expected. It doesn't bother me; it's not like it affects me in any way. Anyone who knows me IRL knows that that's how I am IRL, too. XD But I digress. Only one guy has ever given me free stuff, and it wasn't because he was trying to hit on me or anything; he was just a nice guy. He gave stuff to lots of people. I really haven't gotten any unwanted attention for being a girl playing a game. The comments I have gotten have only been people joking around, and I'm fine with that. I do the same thing. I suppose I'm just lucky, though... I have friends who are female IRL who get.... unwanted attention in-game. They just laugh and blow them off, though. After all, it is just a game.

Funny how most people here say they do not make a difference if they talk to a girl/boy in the game where it shows online that most people do in fact just that. I'm not saying that all of the males who replied to this thread saying that are liars, most likely I think that the people who do treat girls differently either don't think about it or choose not to answer to this thread.

Well I can honestly say that I do NOT treat girls and boys the same way during my time in FFXI and I woulden't want it to be any other way either.

The character involving around me (so called Slizze) was built up in my mind in a sort of Role Playing sens. In my mind Slizze was a tiny tarutaru who did like to run around and do his thing which included some sort of perverted stuffs. Yes I agree, Slizze was little of a pervert, that doesn't mean all he did was to think about sex. But let's face it, playing some with the gender cards can be quite amusing if you do it with the intension of making people happy, however you have to think about what you are saying so that you do not hurt someone at the same time.

A lesbian friend of mine used to play a male character in the game. And yes, she (he) did enjoy flirting with females. She made a female character and would tell me that her entire game play changed. Same person with a different character model and would admit that it was easier to get help with things and would often attract a lot more attention to herself.

Is it different being a female player in the game? Yes. This is not only for this game, but any other game as well. Sometimes it is subtle-- sometimes it is completely degrading. Its sometimes as minor as a guy is less likely to be obnoxious if there is a female in the audiance. Same rules apply in real life. Other times I've noticed that every accomplishment is often downplayed because "Oh, you're just a chic." Everyone's a critic.

Playing a mithra as a female is even worse. There isn't a day that doesn't go by that I get the infamous question "Are you a female in real life?" (Does it matter?) Having played mostly role playing games I picked the mithra because I thought it was "Cute". Luck would have it-- the mithra was a very well rounded character. I was honestly going to pick an elf character at first-- but contrary to fantasy lore-- the elvaan women toons in this game are not very "pretty". I even considered tarutaru-- they reminded me of gnomes and although they made me giggle at first seeing them-- it didn't seem as though it was a character that I could see looking at for extended periods of time.

In a sense, I would imagine that is the same reason males play mithra.

I know of a few males who play the female character to the extreme, and do it becuase they think it'll get them more shit in the game (which they do), but I think if your willing to de-grade yourself to advance in this game as a fake person, then you need to re-evaluate your sexuality. Not to mention a lot of guys who "used" to do that back in the days, but don't anymore, but its still funny because "they" did act like a female to the extreme, but I wont name any names heh

Everyone is a male on the internet in my eyes, until proven otherwise

i picked mithra cause i had no choise. nasya said she'd kill me ninja style.

lol actually she said she beat me senceless in ballista. i like cats and i like balance. that = mithra in a nutshell (also why i picked rdm as my first job). elvaan males look like stuck up snobs with everything they do. hume males look goofy when they cast spells. and taru's are to damn short. :-Þ

I originally was an Elvaan, on Carbuncle. Picked a Mithra when moving to Quetz with full intentions of being a Thief. That idea went out the window, sheesh.

Well, really I haven't had many problems with guys getting weird because I'm a girl. I started day 1 of US PC release and have only been asked to cyber by a random noob once. Because of my man, a lot of people think I'm a guy at first and sometimes during the middle of a party someone will ask me if I am a real girl. I do have a lot of guy friends in the game but I do have a lot of girl friends in the game. Our linkshell happens to have a lot of ladies in it but most of us are taken anyway. XD

I was only single for a few months while playing this game so that might have something to do with it. I don't always yell about the fact that I have a boyfriend but it's in my bazaar comment. XD

I play a mithra because I just like cat chicks. And I am perverted. I like ass.

Anyway, I just act like myself no matter what I'm doing online. Very few people think I'm a chick after seeing me speak. Also, not many people really expect "Klank" to be the name of a lady. I get the odd flirting from time to time (like, once every 4 months) and they usually just say "Oh, sorry" when I tell them I'm a guy. Well, OK, some keep hitting on me anyway, but that's another story.

Nobody's really given me any trouble for playing a Mithra, and if I get the odd "omg u must be ghey" comment, I direct them to my deviantart page. =P

yes indeed XD

I would have been Mithra but I wanted to be different than Zalt. >.>;

When I first started he had a comment in his bazzar about being my lesbian lover and we would both get /tells from random pervs asking if we were real lesbians.

I get people asking me if my character is male or female, not me personally XD

this thread cracks me up.

Me, heh. I am prolly one of the few girls irl that plays as a guy char. I dunno why, I just always have in online games, starting with Phantasy Star Online. I never tell anyone my gender unless they ask, which they never do and that's just fine. I play to have fun.

thats pretty funny. :)

Sabia is proof that god loves us and wants us to be happy.

Super hawt gamer girl who can probably own any of us at pokemon games. Word has it she was a gym leader on the mall circuit. I bet she's not too bad at SSBM either.

Thankya very much! And I do rock time to time on SSBM.

Dudes get pretty weird around gamer girls and it makes me chuckle. I've had guys ask me out when I'm doing promotions just because I explained to them that b fires bombs in Rogue Leader, and I"m all "Buddy, you don't even know my name."

As far as the MMORPG Thing goes, I do treat girls different from guys just like RL. I'm definately a bit more 'sick' with guys than the ladies, dispite being a lady myself. People looking at this as an online dating service are nuts, even if it is a box rather than a dick on the other end - chances are the chracter you're speaking to online isn't anything like the person behind that sprite.

Yeah if VoIP was added for pts or more people had vent guys faking girl action would happen alot less. Unless there like 12 and you cant tell but at that age, who cares.

A little change in subject...

I don't think 12 year olds should be playing FFXI...

Doesnt mean they dont though. And ive played other games with kids who are 12 and 13 who are more mature then 20 yr olds so as long as they dont act there age lol its all good.

I'm a girl IRL.

I used to play a Mithra on another server. It didn't go well. Hence why I went Taru here, and it's much more comfortable. While sometimes I feel bad that people don't tend to see me as an adult woman (I'm 24 >.>;; ), it's a small price to pay for keeping most horndogs at bay.

I do agree that the percentage of real females to men who play female Tarus is higher than for other races. Most men will have a female Taru mule, but not a female Taru main, though of course there are exceptions.

lol im a mithra and still ppl dont see me as an adult woman (hey im turning 24 in july o.O).. not that i really care.. IMO a person's sex means little to me unless im interested in them in a realistic or sexual way.. ive had 2 good friends of mine suddenly just tell me "yea, im really a guy IRL" when for 2+ years i though they were female.. i told both of them the same thing: im not hurt that you are really a guy, im hurt that you lied to me for 2 years.. and i never really want to speak to them, as friends, again.. and as far as the 'horndogs' go.. ignoring people DOES make them go away.. believe it or not.. it really does work lol.. they get bored from having no reaction from you and just.. move on to something more fun..

i also want to make the point that the percentage of females who play videogames is actually going up.. one of my friends at work is also into games, though she prefers FPS's.. and i asked her why.. to which she replied: "I walked into EBgames one day and asked the guy behind the counter where Halo2 was, he was a little surprized i wanted to play a FPS and asked me why, i told him i wanted to play FPS's to do LAN parties and meet guys" lol.. i so know where she is comming from because, me being a 'videogame geek' i naturally want to meet someone who enjoys the same things i do..

anyhow.. believe it or not people, there is a big growth in female gamers.. however, not all of them want to be looked at as sexual beings.. because honestly competition doesnt know no gender.. and im gunna kick kireek's ass nin vs nin in ballista once i hit 75..

Same goes with girls playing male. I act somewhat like a female in a way but I never openly say anything to identify me as a female.

I know a friend of mine was a girl playing as a male character, i can't say is she telling the truth or not, i ask her why, she told me that this male character model is sexy and handsome. and She acts like a guy lol, talking about spanking girls, sexual chat, etc. I'm sure she had a reason to do that, if she told that i'm a girl in a male character, people think she is freaky and weird. I don't know any girl playing as a male character other then my friend which i think she quit ffxi now.

I'm sure Guy play as a female character had their reason too, but unless they telling the truth, no harm is done, and lifes go on...

I could understand some girls playing male characters so they don't get hit on left and right >.>
