Nothing like how helium works, but still pretty funny.

actually, it works exactly like helium, only the opposite. Instead of speeding up sound, it slows it down.

Helium affects vocal chords, this gas is a frequency filter.

Only the voice altering effect is the same, the reasoning is different.

What happens if you inhale Helium and that gas at the same time?

Thats a myth. Helium doesnt affect your vocal cords. Helium is 6 times lighter than air, so sounds moves through it faster.

Sulfur hexafluoride is around 6 times heavier, so sound moving through it is slower.

probably nothing.. Just depends on how much of each you inhale, I suppose. Either that or the first few words out would be high pitched, and the last few low pitched, due to helium being lighter and the SH being heavier

Um... just FYI, SF(6) is toxic.

Anything is 'toxic' in high enough doses.

Its no more toxic than helium or carbon dioxide.

It's not toxic per se, but special precautions need to be taken when inhaling it. Unlike helium, which is very easily expelled from the lungs, this gas being so very heavy tends to settle down at the bottom after a time. So a short time after inhaling it you actually have to turn yourself upside down for several large breaths in order to expel the gas in your lungs.

The winner.

The stuff is used where I work and there are very specific safety restrictions involved. No, it won't kill you instantly, but the stuff is *not* harmless.

Cel works for the government and uses it for interrogation purposes.

Just a FYI, Oxygen is very poisonous :p

Hell, the stuff killed roughly 90% of all life in the oceans when it was first created as a poisonous waste product from algae and other species during Earth's earlier period. The ones that survived learned to adapt, and could grow even more advanced.

Either way, pure oxygen is still very dangerous to breathe in large ammounts. The air we breathe contain less then 50% oxygen, but at a level more then 50%, it'll cause damage to the lungs. When diving, oxygen can also cause seizures if breathed for more then a couple of hours.

What about this gas?

edit: searched for it on wikipedia. The gas is actually not toxic in the least. Oxygen is more toxic. And the thing about having to stand upside down in order to expell the gass from your lungs is a rumour, as the gas will be gone from your lungs in a breath or two. The reason its dangerous, just like most other gasses, is because it can cause suffocation.

Hence, Oxygen > SF6 in terms of poisoness and toxic level.

Oxygen is corrosive. See rust and other forms of oxidation.

That includes dark knights :spiteful:

I know what oxygen is. They named it oxygen because they thought all acids contained oxygen. It doesn't change the fact that its deadly in concentrations above 50% at sea level. 50% oxygen will slowly damage your lungs, and the higher the concentration is, the faster it will cause damage to you lungs. I'm well aware of how rusting and oxidation works. Don't make me go more indepth of the process ~.~

Hell, maybe I shoulda said "oxygen is corrosive, too?" wasn't meant as a pot-shot.
