One of those "No F'ing Way" encounters

Then they always cast all thier elemental debuffs (burn, rasp, shock, etc etc). Thats a lot of MP gone right there because thats 25 mp a spell 7 or 8 of them? Yeah... So the dependency on RDMs or BRDs really isnt so much on myself its for the party. Seeing chain 5 is starting to make me way too gitty when I finally see itO_o and thats sad. Lol.

This whole spiel made me wince. Please tell me that there are not a whole generation of Blms that have lost touch with the elemental enfeeble...

First off, there are 6. However, you can only have 3 cast at a time. That is 75mp. They do DoT, they do very nice debuff work, they are low hate and as such, are perfect to cast during SaTa setup, and they help the melee/tank/mages so much. You'd be hard pressed to find any of your offensive spells that do more for under 75mp.

Please, new Blms, don't abandon your enfeebles....

Kari seemed to have them down when we partied, so I usually only casted them when I saw she didn't. I cast them according to the mob of course.... Bats gets Frost , Beetles get Drown and Choke...etc.

I can never remember which ones cancel each other out tho... they do dont they? O.o

And know Kari, you know why I ALWAYS have materials to make drinks on me...even as PLD. And here you thought it was because I was a prepared person...pssha!

This has to be the first time I've head anyone else say that. I am the same way, I always party with a stash of juices and I always change my Curing style to adjust for a no refresh party. I despise the fact that we are so restricted in out party styles because someone says, thats how its supposed to be. I partied last night with no refresher, pulled 8k in 2 hours. Yeah I know its not MAJOR exp, but hell, thats alot!

Gen did forget to mention that she died 3x and almost quit the game... haha haha haha...... hahaha i love yah gen.

anyways..yeah Kari i was in an exp party with that rdm... he was a taru right? i tried to help him out with a refresh cycle and he was able to get me <whm> and him pretty well.. but he did only cast stone II and water II on the mob no enfeebles or anything.... didnt even hit the mb's.. i was mb'ing lol... and seriously since i started playing whm 55 lvls ago i never had a 'good' rdm... the best one we had stayed with the party for 15 mins =(...

good rdms come out of your mog house please^^

somehow i get the feeling that the rdm in question is just being a jerk

Is it true that u can cast 3? Everyone has told me only 2 could stick at a time. Damn my blm noobness

Here's something I wrote up a long time ago to help out a mage in my LS.

To start with, all the debuffs follow the same weakness chart as everything else:

Fire>>Ice>>Wind>>Earth>>Thunder>>Water>>Fire

So, if you cast a Drown (water) right after a Burn (fire), the burn effect will be erased. Conversly, if you cast a Burn when Drown is in effect, you'll get the "Soandso's Burn has no effect" message. So, it's best to consider the stat effects of the debuffs when casting, since you can only have so many of them up.

Burn: INT down
Frost: AGI down
Choke: VIT down
Rasp: DEX down
Shock: MND down
Drown: STR down

There are 2 combinations that allow 3 elemental debuffs at once:

Burn, Choke, and Shock: gives INT, MND, and VIT down, excellent for a mage-heavy party.

Frost, Rasp, and Drown: gives AGI, STR, and DEX down. Would be good for hard-hitting mobs.

Both these combinations are slightly mana-intense though, so oftentimes only 2 elemental debuffs are used. The most common configuration is Frost and Shock, because it gives the most benefit to both mages and melee. Oftentimes, when knowing a skillchain is imminent, Osse has cast Shock and Burn instead, in order to boost his MB numbers. There are a lot of other possible 2-spell combos, but none has quite the utility and broad application of Frost and Shock.

Final note- if the mob in question is strong to a particular element, the resist rate of that enfeeble will be higher, and the duration often shorter. The reverse is also true, and should be kept in mind.

Now back to your regularly scheduled flame. ;)

I notice he/she/it is in RSE and lvl fourty gear, I dont really case I just want the refresh.
this is the exact reason why i quit RDM  if you want refresh so much, level cooking to 30 and bring some juices, or stand the wait without a red mage

I'm not going to get into the fine lines of what a RDM's job is, but refresh is one of the key points. Not the -entire- job but you are invited to a party alot because you -refresh-. Refreshing makes chains easier to obtain and faster exp rates. So sue me if I wanted that. I'm a RDM 63 and I quit it because it seems 99% of the RDM's out there now adays dont know how to do thier damn jobs or constantly bitch about doing it. I dont want to be associated with that. And if your going to whine about refreshing being something RDM's are expected to do, its probably just best that you did quit RDM. ^^;

Actually, as a Melee, I'd prefer 10 VIT down(Choke) over 10 AGI(Frost.)Really, lowering AGI isn't too beneficial, a mob losing 5 whole evasion isn't going to help hitting it all that much. Where as 10 VIT gives me +10 more Minimum and Maximum damage, as well as a slight(I mean it in every sense of the word) higher damage increase from being 5 Attack higher. Anyone having severe accuracy issues(to where a decrease of 5 evasion) should either upgrade their gear, or eat sushi.

While 10 AGI would also help out critical rate as well, since criticals are extremely random, it's not entirely worth it.

I actually wrote that before sushi was available in the game, heh. If accuracy isn't an issue, then choke is better than frost. Your average pickup party, though, would probably need even the slight accuracy advantage that Frost gives them over the VIT down; especially moreso at the lower levels. I can agree that 70+, or in MNK-heavy parties, Choke is the clear winner. ;)

Lower level BLM's also have to take their lower MP pool into consideration. It's more feasable for a BLM in the lower levels to worry about only 2 elemental debuffs, and conserving the extra 25 MP per mob for extending the chain. If you're in a rare BRD/RDM combo party, able to effectively utilize high-end MP+ foods like marron glace, or a Taru with so much MP+ gear at lower levels that the mob just has to look at you wrong to knock you into the red, then 3 debuffs per mob is workable. And the best 3-debuff combo IMO is Shock/Choke/Burn.

Ranunu? Ha. Do I have some fun stuff to say about her.

I was getting out of an exp party late one night last week when I saw a shout for an ENM (Mea). I join the party as a BLM, with this Ranunu as our WHM. She was quiet, but I figured she was JP or something--it was nearly 4 or 5 a.m. EST so it was JP prime time. We joined up with a JP party in Promyvion-Mea and start making our way up towards the spire. Ranunu aggroed frequently, but I wrote this off as her being an idiot.

At the third MR, we kill it easily and port to the final level... only to see that little Ranunu didn't make it. Suddenly her health is dropping. She dies way back where she'd last aggroed something--not even by the MR! And of course begins spamming "<Raise>" in /party. The JPs attempt to talk to her in Japanese--no go. Of course she's ignoring everything we say in English. The JPs begin speculating that she's Chinese. Meanwhile I've got that horrible gilseller suspicion myself.

Against my better judgement, we go back--having to drag the JP party with us because we have nobody able to Raise left in my party--and they kindly Raise her. I check her--she's naked except for seer's gear and one piece of Taru RSE (feet) and a level 1 staff.

This was where I began spamming our party leader with tells: "This HAS to be a gilseller." He was like "Sucks but we gotta keep going now" so....

We get to the Spire. We rest to full and go up to the Web of Recollections. Guess who doesn't even enter the ENM with us? Ranunu went afk for multiple hours just standing there at the entrance to the BC. Needless to say, we got creamed, though I figure we would've even if Ranunu had gone in with us.

So yeah, DNP, most likely a gilseller.

It seems everyone will pick up their act once they know they're doing a crappy job.

Heck, there's this one rdm at 52 I partied with who was melee-ing and had a non-mage subjob. Wouldn't refresh and knew he was doing a terrible job.... next thing i know..the guy actually has picked up his act and levelled a proper subjob and he's on people's top 3 list...

Those high demand jobs always seem to show the stupidest players.

I haven't seen a bad monk or dragoon for a while.. :P
