ONLINE GIL SELLER BUSTED

but these ppl AREN'T shitting on your porch. they're collecting ONLINE GIL as a type of way to make a living. so no need for analogy if we already know what the case is. and i also understand that whole "against the TOS" whatever. but believe me, there are a lot WORSE things ppl can break or go against than video rules. and i know it "seems" like i'm supporting it, but i'm really not. i'm just not "bitching" or "complaining" about gil farmers/sellers. all i can say is, when i'm done with the FFXI phase, i DO plan on selling my video game crap for REAL LIFE MONEY.

also have to remember that we're actually "more spoiled" or even "too spoiled" than those that actually do live in a poor economy/country. all i can say is... i have yet to experience anything bad because of the result of a gil seller.

Your sympathy towards the plight of the poor is admirable :) makes you a good guy in my book ^^

Im trying to rationalize how someone who is dirt poor is able to have access to a PC good enough to run FFXI. Is it like a sweatshop full of high-end pc's
and crying babies? who knows........................ If thats the case it disturbs me even more :(

The harm a gil seller can do affects a few things, most notably, the economy on our server. If these guys/gals have 15 stacks of "insert item name" and it is their "job" or "self served interest" to make sure these items sell, what do they do? they low ball the asking price.
That in turn, means that a player who normally made say, 15k off a stack
now makes 10k or 8k.

And if a DRK or SAM ( and I think WAR, bont dont quote me lol) wants a valkyrie mask, they either have to rely on the now lower gil they are receiving for the sold items, or they have to try (and i emphasise try) to camp the NM. But wait! theres a couple of gil-farmers who live on the spawn spot.

Their actions effect everyone, from the casual crafter, to the player who wants the best of the best gear to better serve his/her role in a pt.

I am neither bitching or complaining ultra, Im just promoting awareness to an issue that affects us. That is in the end, what this forum is for.....discussion.

Also....they're collecting ONLINE GIL as a type of way to make a living.
That is exactly the point, its wrong. Im not out to burn their house down, hell, I wish I could earn a living playing this :) My major beef is with Squeenix for not doing jack shit about it.

As far as selling your account when done, go for it! someone purchasing your account does not harm us in any way, and its a great way to get something back for all the hours you put in.

i'm sure everything is done at a "facility" or the job of place.

on the note on the "economy" in our server. it's already been established by those that were here first. if a crafter doesn't want to buy an ingredient because it's overly priced, then they should farm for it for free. all it takes is their time. and even though it's "nice" to have the "best equipment", it's not always necessary to have it. the "best equipment" doesn't make the player better. it's the player's style and competence that makes the difference. "best equipment", i'm meaning luxuries items and all the +1's. but, just in my opinion, the way the economy is... it doesn't really effect anyone except those that don't really have enough money to buy it. that's what it really comes down to. if you have no source of how you make your income, then obviously you're gonna struggle with the way the economy is. i mean, it has to benefit someone. can't benefit everyone.

I have a vision of a Real Life Homeless guy getting online and standing outside Jueno yelling shouts with his hand out, "Will work for food!" Scary how Real life stuff works its way into this game.

hmmm gil sellers.. I say throw em out of there jobs regardless if they need the 100.00 a month or not they need to be shown not to fuck with SquareSoft!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and me.....

I havent read past the Xcalade mention yet.. but.. o m g.

Yet another reason he's an asshole, he always spouts off that he's rich or whatever. There isn't any need for assholes like him to start dumping in on the gil selling bullshit.

Now not only is he a worthless player but a fucking good for nothing gil seller too. Just when I thought I couldn't think any lower of him, he goes and shows me what a sack of shit he really is.

Okay, now back onto reading the rest of the thread.

I couldn't sell my account, I wouldn't like it having a "false" Jinnai running around :?

As for gilsellers, they should be taught that, if you lower the price, your only hurting yourself, stuff sells, no matter the price history has it for! stop lowering the prices, just because you want to be the 'first' to sell it, it is still going to sell! Hmm, I think making an extra 5k for waiting another hour seems pretty nice to me, but I guess people like having 1gil in that split second ?

If IGE really want's to make a business, they need to be more respectful, If the guy camps, lets say, Mee Deggi, about 20 hours a day, and some SAM walks up, and sits there. Now, they should 'assume' that the SAM isn't there to gain gil, but to actually have the item, they should go do something else. However, I guess then they wouldn't make a business off that..hmm...I still think they mining YOUR points is lame, and if anything, I am in full support of ridding the world of gil sellers. People who actually spend 1000 dollars on one mil game currency are just plain stupid. It isn't 'legit' there for, you suck, your a cheater, and should die by the paws of a Wild Rabbit, because you suck! The people who buy accounts and play as that character are just stupid too. Your running around with a false name, and you would most likely be an utter n00b to the game. "Oh I am a lvl75! I pwn j00 newb! Now how do you restore HP and MP without spells?" That there is a legitimate reason why buying an account is really really really idiotic. Unless you have researched this game A LOT, I mean, you practically know the in's and out, and everything, THEN it is ok, but what is so fun about knowing everything about the game, but being lvl75? You don't get to experience much.

I support those who desire that SE SHOULD seriously stop this GIL SELLING!

Ok, for those interested, the quote about the gil selling was here:

http://www.qcdn.org/viewtopic.php?p=12892&highlight=#12892

Since I drew his name in, I was starting to wonder if I was just delusional.

To be honest, the gil selling 'reasons' could lead to many different scenarios. Whether to feed your family, put yourself through school, or give yourself a vacation, the method of getting the money remains the same generally.

However, I have to admit. I think I fall in the fickle category right now. I'm a person that HATES to be undercut at the auction house. I put in quite a bit of time to collect whatever I sell so I would like to get a fair return. On the flip side, when I'm a buyer, I like to try to get the lowest price possible so I'm happy when I get something like 500-1000 off the auction house. So why does this matter?

Most likely, gil sellers try to maximize the money they get for their work. However, if these people camping the NM but sold the items at undercutted prices, would that make anyone happy? I think due to the rarity of the items, they can probably get the price they wanted, but if they were to start selling at a lowered price ie leaping boots for 100k, I wonder if people would care AS much.

I still think people who are actually willing to spend $500 to buy VIDEO GAME money should just hire out people to get their money. Back in the day when Akuma was mentioning the whole site, I noticed there is a huge difference how much they buy it for and how much they sell it for. The mark up is huge. Cut out the middle man. But anyways, I think this debate has been making me think and flip flop

I think if S-E did stop gil selling, it would solve a lot of problems.

Especially when I'll do it for free. :D

it's not that i have a problem with people feeding their families... but in all reality, i'm not exposed to that. if the guy next to me was starving, and he had to sell gil to eat, i would give him all of my gil and equip.

but that would totally ruin my fun. and if all the nice people did that, the only ones left playing would be assholes. and when i'm trying to take a break from life and have fun in vana d'eil, i don't want some stupid person inturupting me from it. mostly i hate the gill selling companies, (especially since google put an ad for them on my invisionfree board XD) but trying to make money is no reason to be an asshole. stealing logging/mining points, etc.

the people i hate most though are the ones who BUY the gil. for instance:

(Desini): wow, cool. all your armor is +1
(Goddamngilbuyer): yeah I had to buy gil with real money to get the cash
Desini fumes
Desini hits highlvlmob for 0 points of damage
Goddamngilbuyer uses provoke on highlvlmob
Desini flees

never acctaully done that.... but i wish i could. especially since i give almost all my gil to newbies X-P ( i am so freakin broke)

Give those poor people in the countries access to your account and THEY"LL farm for you!!! of course, this somehow seems like having a game servant.

I want a little Taru game servant to follow me around for extra storage, teleports/warp, and theme song singing. Don't have an actual theme song yet, but I'll use the "Max Power" song till something better comes along. 8)

/rant on
How do people in "poor countries" play FFXI ?
Why would they own a PC, and aren't there better Way's to make money than PLAYING A VIDEO GAME ?
100 $'s a Month is not alot.
STOP LOOKING AT THE REST OF THE WORLD AS A 3RD WORLD COUNTRY !!!!
/rant off

i think that most gil farmers lie about their true intentions. I mean if your doing something illegal ina game why would you want to tell someone? they could call a GM. meybe these gil farmes are really smart and make up that bullshit story of being poor and stuff to get you NOT to call a GM. maybe they are just lazy ass people with nothing better to do. ive never been affected by gil farmers since most of the things I farm arent very "popular". or maybe they really are poor chinise dudes. we will never really know.

I dont know how many times i have to stress this, but it is against TOS, and it is also illegal, violating copyright laws, Using someone else's product to sell, without rights or permission! its against TOS because it simply hinders the gameplay of others, by t flooding the ah, and more things, plus gil farmers who scamp nm, like the fox's probily use voke bots, and fishers that use fish bots, lets band together as a community and fight this!

I would like nothing more than to gather as a united front against it. However, our actions must be well thought as so we do not want to warrant a harrassment call to a GM. (It seems thats the only thing they actually respond to). I personally have been taking notes and observing peculiar actions to base my theories. Awareness is key for now, the more people we find doing this and the more names that appear here will acomplish just that.

With 700+ members on this board I'd say thats raising awareness pretty well :) What can we do against it? Camp their NM's using DRG and mess up their targeting while mages heal them to do the same, steal their mobs. these are things not considered against the TOS and are basically exactly what they do to us. If you see an item in AH you want, but the price list reflects a flood of sales from a supposed gil-farmer, go to a different kingdom to buy your item.

The last thing we want is to use immature, harrassing tactics against them,
play it smart and beat them at their own game.

I cut and pasted this from the other gil-farmer thread.
This is how I base my theories:

Gil-farmer : a player whos sole purpose of existence in this game is to amass gil for sale online for real world dollars.

While it is difficult to prove who actually is a gil-farmer, there are some ways to determine the possibility and come up with reasonable case for suspicion.
Below are the things I look for when trying to I.D. a possible gil-farmer.

a) Lvl : So far the going lvl is the 50-ish area based on my personal observations and the observations of other trusted online friends.

b) Job: Im finding that most gilfarmers are dragoons with a mage/curing class with them for a total of 2 people.

c) Gear: Despite my original belief that great gear = gil-farmer (totally untrue) these people have just what they need to survive.

d) Check AH: If someones name appears constantly in the price history of a certain item, and this person wears shitty gear, well, doesnt take a genius to figure that one out. Ex: AH price history shows this person made around 600k in the last 3 days, yet they wear shitty gear 20 lvls old..........

c) Location: If you suspect a person to be a gil-farmer, do a /sea all on them once in a while for about a week. Chances are they never leave these areas except to hit jeuno to sell.

Update, talked to Naku last night. Looks like for all the gil merchants in there from China (gil merchants = online gil sellers for cash), they don't like each other. From what I gathered, they are on a quota system, because they have to compete among themselves. I started to talk to another gil merchant by the name of Beng, and these two hate each other. Beng trades me mining points for a teleport dem, which prompted Naku to get angry at me. This is how I found out that these two hate each other. I will keep you updated as I find out more.
