It started Wednesday the 13th. It's an intricate and long story, one that came very close to ending up on the flameboards. So, without any further remission here it is:
It's late Wednesday night. I'm running around Al Zahbi with nothing to do, in the usual fashion, as one of my ls members informs me there is an Ouryu (CoP mission, not the BCNM) run being organized. I quickly join up with the group and off we go. I recognized one of the players as an old friend, and another as one who had deleted several times and came back time and time again as someone else. (mainly due to stealing items from other players) Both will remain unnamed here; again this is a thread that ALMOST ended up on the flame board. Since this is good times I'll refrain.
We run through Riverne Site #B01 to Monarch Linn and prepare for the BC. We only have one mistmelt and decide to make the first run a dry practice run, to get a feel for the fight without wasting our one good mistmelt. Setup had been NIN, RNG, WHM, BLM, BLM, RDM. After at least six tries, most of which ending in complete wipes, we finally beat him. I was very pleased that no one developed a foul attitude about the deaths and all were generally happy just to have a chance to participate. After finally winning the fight, we agreed to static and meet every night to finish up all CoP missions.
Fast forward to the next night. We're doing Sacrarium and my wonderful ISP chose the one night of the year I was actually trying to get something accomplished in game, to do their maintenance. I ended up getting booted a couple times, all for more than a few hours total. I was very bitter, and felt especially abhorrent when I returned to find my static had been farming without me. (To clarify, I was not angry with them at all, on the contrary was feeling very guilty for them having to do work without me.)
By the end of the night, we had the mission completed, and I'll admit not a whole lot of thanks was due to me. I informed them that this was the last night my ISP was doing maintenance; however, it possibly could bleed over to a bit of tomorrow if they were unable to finish it all tonight. Either way, I would check with them in the morning to see if they finished it.
We decided to do Promyvion-Vahzl the next night at the usual time. I woke up extra early to get all my CS done, the NM golem in Pso'xja defeated, and logged out inside the promyvion before I had to leave for work. I sent a message to one of the members advising I had done so, to make it quicker for us to get started, as everyone else was on at least 30 minutes prior to me due to my work schedule. (And how elated was I when I called my cable company from work and they informed me it had been completed!) I rushed home and logged in as expediantly as I could. Logging directly into the promyvion, the first thing that loads is my static! I ran up to them as they had already began farming, only to notice something out of the ordinary- they had someone else there... another Red Mage. One of the members, the thief who stole all the gear from multiple people, explained to me that the static did not want to risk my bad connections as an issue to them. (This was a blatant lie, it was a decision made by her and one other member as they had invited the other RDM before everyone else logged on and then felt obligated to keep him.) This person even went so far as to drag some of my long time (I mean three years long time) friends into it, saying they told her I have bad connections all the time. (This is also a blatant lie!) I was more than irate! I really just wanted to hurt someone, I honestly have no idea how to convey into words how angry I was.
So after about 30 minutes I decide to go ahead and log and take another long break from the game - maybe try some WoW. Just about the time I'm getting ready to log, I get a tell from an old friend, Kujoh. I haven't talked to him in I guess about 10 months, since I just got back from a long break. His static, currently on Ouryu, was looking for one more.
I figured what the hell, I was already PO'd about my first static leaving me behind, I might as well try this. After I got us lost in Riverne Site #B01, we zone into Monarch Linn and discuss and prepare for the fight. Literally as we're entering the BC, one of the members disconnect. We decided there was no way we were going without him. (At least I know there was no way I was going to, since I had just been ditched and knew how it felt.) After a few minutes he returns and we go in.
Fight lasted about 13 minutes, and I don't think these guys could have done a more perfect job! Despite everyone's combined efforts, superior skill and tact, the tank and myself died. (Ouryu went in the air and was hitting him HARD, I got hate curing and soon he and I were both dead.) But the damage had been done, and Ouryu didn't stand a chance, even against our crippled alliance. I really must stress, everyone did an -awesome- job!! And it really turned my mood around from total rage and loathing of the game, (and a lot of the people in it) to overwhelming joy that I got a second chance here... and got to meet some great people in the process!
So without further ado.. many congratulations, thank you's, and a very well earned galka size {Good Job!} to my new (and improved!) CoP static:
