Outflux Of People Lately?

Also, I agree with how some of the things have become to easy. It allow a buncha people get to 75, w/o learning how to play their job correctly.

Honestly, even at this pace, if you don't learn how to play your job by 75 you never will. Its not like you can get from 1 level to another in 30 mins later on.

It is the "exam" period for a lot of people too, perhaps another reason why not a lot of people are playing. I haven't played much for a 2 odd weeks just to finish some assignments, but it's manageable.

FFXI is very repetitive and the meriting system of fifteen minutes in pugs was too predictible. After some RL issues, I decided it was time to leave. In the last few months I did log on, I was mostly chatting in my mog house while running around in circles. To me, there is no appeal in the game anymore.

Out of all the mmos I have played, FFXI had one of the best communities to make friends with. I could keep open the account just to talk to friends but I realized we have forums, vent, and messenger programs to keep in touch. A lot of these people will eventually move on because of careers, life changes, and so forth. C'est la vie.

Exams/Finals do seem to cause panic in many mmos because recruitment is low. Glad to see that people are focusing on passing classes than digital loots/progression.

I have taken multiple breaks and this last one I'm on is pretty much permanent. Out of sheer idiocy I thought that WoTG would add some new things to the game, but in my opinion it didn't (then again I left shortly after the release before the updates). The game just got really old to the point that I felt lobotomized after a few minutes of being logged on.

3.) Need a new tanking job, or allow current jobs to tank.

We already have nin pld drk rdm mnk war, nin pld rdm and drk can tank pretty much any HNM in the game and mnk is the best tank for salvage while wars can tank fafnir pretty easily.

I haven't been here in a million years, mostly because I don't play on quetzal anymore... but I got a spam pm that sent me an email, so I decided to check in.

Obviously MMO's go in cycles, people get bored and leave. In my case, I played so much.. logging like 30+ days in under a year. Anyways, I played ffxi right away when it released, and so did a lot of my friends, once WOW came out, most my friends moved to WOW, leaving me and a small list of other local friends that played. Once they left, I left too. Selling my account and moving on with my life.

A year later, maybe even two, I forget... I beta'd LOTR online and hated it, but it reminded me of the fun I missed with FFXI... now year later, I'm playing ffxi again, on another server (caitsith fyi), and I'm back into it fairly heavily again. I did however, make a choice that I wouldn't let it affect my "real life". Meaning, I wouldn't cancel or turn down RL events in order to play the game.

Now I've convinced two of my RL friends to come back and play ffxi again and we are having a blast with it. The thing that I love about it is if you get bored with a job, you just switch to another one. Hell, I leveled 3 different jobs on Monday night, and 2 different jobs last night. It keeps it fresh.. and if you don't feel like leveling or doing party work, there are tons of quests and random other things to do.

Has anyone noticed a lot of people leaving FFXi lately (myself included)? I know alot of the people posting in the GT thread as of late seem to be "lifers" hanging up their characters. I know people have individual reasons for moving on, but overall has FFXi began to lose some of the luster? Before I left, I even began to notice populated places being less populated, ie. Whitegate, Jueno, et al. What exactly is going on, and can SE do anything to recapture the magic?

I was about to come back next month, too :( Now that you're going to be gone, I don't quite know if I will, lol.

I didnt have a big ffxi clique.

I think a big reasons is the release of WoTG. Other than Campaign and some new zones to look at, there isn't too much new that was introduced in the game. A lot of people are getting burnt out on doing the same events. ZM & ToAG were great expansions, which sustained a lot of players' needs with different aspects like new jobs, missions, monsters and zones. They also included a lot of fun events to do on the side. I think ToAG was a great success in tuning into the FFXI community and giving us something fresh. (Even if some of those added events failed in terms of popularity & made lvling a whole bunch easier).

CoP for me is one of those weird expansions. It offered great challenges, some nice gear and new HNMs to fight, but I feel it failed in some ways too. Sea seemed to be intended to be the new sky. I think SE's original intention was to help pull some of the population from sky to explore this new area of end game. However, if you were one of those who farmed sea earlier on *raises hand* then you will know the crap feeling of fighting jailers or trying to get ix'aerns to pop for hours on end with like a 50% drop rate on the deeds. It was a lot of effort to come up empty handed at the end of the day when a group could go to sky and be sure to get 100% pop items for much less of the time and hassle. I don't think SE intended for so many people to lvl so many multiple 75 jobs. I guess in a way you could say it's hard to ever really be done sky :) CoP was also very difficult when it was first introduced. I remember completing 2/3 of the promies the first week it came out and wiping with full alliance of 18 on floor 3. There were many times while doing CoP I became very frustrated due to the difficulty. Now it's slightly peeving to go back and help others with the same missions I had done years ago and see what kind of a breeze they are lol. I will be the first to admit >_> ... I totally spent my $30 for an awesome ring & earring that you get for completing CoP. I was so angry with CoP the CS just sparked off the whole: How fast can I press the enter button game.

I too for awhile was debating to quit after I got back from active duty training with the army. I lost some of my in game connections with a lot of my friends during that time. A lot of what was going on in my game life wasn't the best and I was not moving foreword with Reya the way I wanted to do. To help bring back that spark of FFXI I changed servers. So far it has been very good. 3/3 Land Kings, 3/3 ToAG HNM including lolHydra low manning ix'drk and *takes deep breath* finally finishing AN in one day is always good times :) Being active in events again has helped peeked my interest again. I think though when WAR comes out Raes and I might try that one for a bit since he is total Warhammer fan :)

PS: I still miss a lot of you guys D:

I dunno, bet if you look at threads made around this time last year you'd see similar coments about the game losing people and it getting worn out and repetitive. Its nicer weather outside now springs here, this game always gets a drop this time of year.

WOtG has been far to slow to get started and has become boring very quickly. Campaign is nice but it needs some substantial tweaking. Other than Campaign WOtG does not offer much to keep people interested and the game fresh.

I really enjoy campaign battle. It definitely beats sitting in town waiting for a party for hours. I do, however, wish they'd progress part of the WOTG expansion a bit more quickly. The new deal with a patch every four months is pretty sour. There are still something like 12 more ranks to go through in campaign, and lots of people are sitting at the top right now just waiting for the rest of the game to open up.

Looks a lot more like two ranks left (or eight if you count each separate medal as a rank, rather than a group of four medals as a rank), rather than twelve. This is indicated not only by the unreleased medals in the key item .dat, but also by the way they've spaced out campaign ops and blank placeholder spaces in the campaign op mission description .dat.

While that's hardly set in stone, it does serve as a decent indication of SE's future plans.

I agree with the rest of your point aside from that nitpick, however.

S-E doesn't care about their customers or their wants or needs. It took them ages to do anything about the blatant hackings. Jobs are still being neglected after being crap for over a year. There's no noticeable gear progression after Fafnir and the Wyrms years after their introduction. Claimbots that worked 3 years ago still work. Etc. If they showed even the slightest care about their product, I wouldn't have left. Now it's going to take a miracle to get me back.

He was talking about each group of the ranks so ya 8 left. ;P

You as a player, are forced to take breaks from this game/server. Be it a few days, weeks or months. Or you won't survive to see the end.

And yeah, I was forced to take a break alright. otherwise it wouldn't have happened ;P

It's happened several times before >.> I have no real opinion of it, but I can't think of any server I'd want to join with... We're small but we're not low on players either.
