The constitutional attorney seems to be a hell of a lot more with it than anti-video game violence activists.

He said it best, it's a scapegoat to sink your teeth into against something that is as old as time itself. Rebellious, teen angst.. it's been around forever, and no censorship is ever going to change that.

Get a grip people, get a grip. Your kids a little out of control, a bit disrespectful, try smacking em in the mouth when they lip off. Throw them over your lap when they really fuck up. If they're really messed up and capable of psychotic behavior.. it's not the game, could be the genes though.

And if they are too young to be subjected to such violence, screen the games. Get control dumb asses, you brought them into the world, you can take em out.

The last two minutes of the third part is all that needs to be shown.

Also, the kid probably wasn't crying because he fired a BIG SCARY REAL LIFE GUN, but because he wasn't holding it right when he fired it and hurt the fuck out of his jaw.

Sometimes we're too big to be thrown over laps, Morcheeba.

...sadly, it is my genes.

Smacking in the mouth is contra-indicated, it tends to land you in trouble with Child Protective Services these days. My own parents never struck me in anger. Which isn't to say that I didn't garner the occasional beating (or even the frequent beating), it's just to say that the process of punishment was sufficiently ritualized that while I was always aware of the possibility, I was never truly afraid of my parents.

And yeah, watching that video I was thinking "Man, if that kid pulls the trigger, he's gonna be lucky if he doesn't break something..."

Yea i have to be honest i was kinda angry that they didnt make sure that he held it properly...

Off-topic.

This is because A. parents are afraid of their children, not the other way around and B. people can't mind their own business ;p

I was never afraid of my parents, and it wasn't the sting of a good crack when I deserved one, it was realizing afterward what I did that actually brought my mom or dad to the point of smacking me. That lesson cannot be learned otherwise >.>;

Games are definitely not to blame for rampant teens and young kids. It's either the structure or lack there of at home and/or they're prone to be punks whether from a chemical imbalance or just attitude problems.

the bad parents use video games as a scapegoat to why their kids act up. its the parents that arent making sure their kids understand the difference and uphold that difference. i personally do not see anything wrong with allowing a child to play video games. its a scientific fact that it helps with hand/eye coordination. but, im also responsible enough to make sure my kid knows the difference. and i practice safety with him also. for being 8, he is quite good with real guns. BUT, he is very aware of safety and the real life outcome of what guns do.

ya, ditto. if it was a gun that had more recoil, he would have had a broken collar bone.

Yeah, you could see right after he fired the gun he had hurt his jaw and was fighting to hold his tears in.

Either way, this was a good episode, and I liked the couple at the end. Whenever there's a school shooting, people always look for a reason for why someone would do something like that. And, hey, they're males! chances are they will have a video console at home. Most males do.

What they fail to take in to consideration is the millions of guys that play video games that do not end up being homicidal maniacs. This is just like the swine flu, someone dies from a new disease and its suddenly the most dangerous thing in the world, never mind the thousand of people that caught the very same disease and survived.

I believe it's fair to say in these cases the negative outweight the positive.

So you mean to say there should be a ban on video games because the negative outweighs the positive? xD

HOLY SHIT !! Watch Your Tongue!! In other words hells no =p

I mean to say, when you gave the example that there a far more gamers that go on to live completely normal lives they still look for the one negative 'common denominator' to point blame.

So in their eyes, the negative outweight the positive even when it's not statistically or factually supported.

Oh, ok xD I misunderstood you then :P

And yeah, as they said, that's not how you do research. If a researcher actively searched for things to support their thesis to claim as proof, they would be laughed at. When making a theory or research, you should be neutral and take all evidence in to consideration, and build a theory around the evidence you have. You should not make a theory and search for evidence around that, which is what Jack Thompson etc. do.

That is why I really liked the last couple, they based their theory around the evidence they had available to them. They are everything Jack Thompson should strive to be.

See. This here folks is the opposite end of the Family Values spectrum. Nobody (in America, which is what P&T focused on) is out to outright ban Mature video games, unless they're totalitarian freedom hating yahoos. Clinton and her ilk are just out to keep them from being sold to minors. Misinformation is a two way street guys.

Either way, a ban will never happen. It didn't happen to Rock with Elvis, or Kiss. It didn't happen to Rap with the Gangsta movement. It didn't to Porn/Erotica. It didn't even happen to Mortal Kombat, at Joe Liebermans dismay.

There's still a lot of people out to ban them. Don't remember which game, but I'm sure I remember right about there being a game banned in both Germany and England, which is utterly retarded.
