Well, since it goes in to the range attack slot, I assume you need to have the monster claimed in order to get it. /rangedattack y'know?

Bad logic.

You can use Gauge on targets claimed by other parties. Virtue stones go in the ammo slot, yet aren't thrown. Fishing rods and bait/lures occupy the same spots.

While that's true, Virtue Stones are also not used on mobs outside your own party. Fishing rod aren't used on mobs outside of your party, either. Gauge is an ability. I'm assuming you need to use /ra to make a photo of it, and while its true that you could take a photo of a claimed mob, I doubt SE will make it like that.

Or it could allow access to an ability in your menu like Stage 4 and completed relic weapons allow access to their weaponskill.

Just like Fishing, the items use the ranged and ammo slots due to a limited amount of equipment slots.

I'm going to guess it'll be /ja "Feral Drain" <t> which will alow you to use a lvl 1 version of the mob in the pit, probably with few if any of the mobs basic skills.
 
Im going to take a stab and say that only mobs that have been engaged and weakened can be captured, just like pokemon, lol. Fight it until its almost death, then grab it.

Unless its like that game, Pokemon Snap, lol.

Since the objects are already in the game, we can see what they do. While it is possible they'll ninja-in the "Feral Drain" ability, it is currently not in the .dat's
