I know i have very little use for parrying but it being so low compared to even weapons i dont use bothers me, my parrying is only 122, and i was wondering other t han leveling ninja and leveling paladin or tanking on my war(which i do), whats a good way to level parrying, i was thinking of getting a parrying sword/dagger +skill and the earring, but i'm broke r ight now so i cant, so any tips?

get a low lv 2 handed weapon go out side kazham and take the hits with weapon out and low skill ups ad great parry i did 40-100 parry in 3 hrs

Parrying sucks to level. Mine's borderline 200 right now I believe, and that's taken literally months of on-and-off soloing.

thanks blazn for the tip, but i'm already 122 like i posted, as is right now i get parrying skillups everynow and then while leveling with my NPC, and i'd like higher just to have it up some more, its worse than summoning cause at least summoning your safeish

theres 1 glitch that SE has not found on parry but not saying what some people know about it but people got to learn like the skillup trick for cafting on how to do like 6-10 in less then a hr any lv

ok blazn is full of sht

parrying is hard and random to skill up.. and the only way to cap it is to play ENTIRELY TOO MUCH (and fight+tank the entire time)

which is more than me..

and i play almost entirely too much.. very close

my parrying is something like 206.. and im 75 pld(tank job) 75thf(A in parry, solo job)

its tough to level and only skills up when you least expect it

try to consciously skill it up in a skill up party or w/e and u will go crazy lol

i tank as war/nin nin and pld all jobs past 40 and pld parry skills r crap u want to try wars ask callum in bib 4 wars 2 rdms i tanked i parrys most my gear as there is a glitch to it with the * button and got like 12 skill up in 1 party getting my prnt srnc set up tomrmow show u if i can

it cant be as hard as you think. my pld is capped at 225. my nin is near the cap at 231 and my sam(64) is capped at 216

There's another thread about this.

Best tip I can give you is; Use agility gear, and lots of it.
AGI greatly increases your chance to parry and block with shield.

No. Just... no.

Well, all I do is solo as DRG/WHM. My parrying cap'd out pretty quick. So.....gl in your quest to skill up the bitch of all skills, XDDD

Mine levels pretty quick now that it is only a few levels under cap as nin, but I had already skilled it up a bit beforehand doing casual RDM stuff. Just try to keep leveling jobs that are really close to capping with it. But AGL and -EVA will be your friend in this.

i might try the nin thing, i'm 42 nin and cap for 42 nin is 129(i'm 1 short of cap for nin @40) i think, so that might work for a bibt, ty for the idea... arg nin gear all the way on my mule

Parrying is no where near as hard as Guarding. Parry, atleast, can level up through the course of multiple jobs. Guard is MNK onry.

yeah but have some cross-counters and it can lv preety fast

Cross-Counters are Counter... wtf does that have to do with parrying, or guarding?

GTFO and take an english class

As already said, the best way to level parrying is to use a really low-damage weapon and alot of +agi. I'd personally recommend getting getting some VIT too, and possibly taking on a MNK (the L50ish ones in Davoi should work really well)

And I dunno what the Cross-Counters comment is about, but you can't skillup Parrying with h2h...rather, I don't think Parrying will even activate at all with h2h.

i like the idea of going to lvl 50ish monks, it has the added benefit of not having to mule, but i'm only 16 lvls above them, and they could probably beat me up if i'm not careful, i'm actually curious about something, should i use my haubergeon? -5agi, but it seems likes the -20evasion should help more than the -5agi would hurt

If the Davoi monks are too high, you could goto one of the corners or Yhoator where no one XP's and just fight a Yhoat Mandragora (not too sure if they'd give any skillup beyond 130, if even that..) You COULD could use a Haubergeon, but the -agi means less parry activation which contradicts the point of having the -20 eva. =/ I dunno if it'd be totally worth it or not in my opinion..

The plus side of Monks mobs, though I say this lightly, is that with a bit of def/vit they really don't hurt at all; if you're 15+ levels above the Davoi guys they shouldn't pose too much a threat at all (unless one links, but if you bring some serious fighting gear just in case it still shouldn't be bad) but it's up to you, better safe than sorry.
