"Treasures of Aht Urhgan" Version Update (Apr. 12)

On April 18, 2006, the FINAL FANTASY XI: Treasures of Aht Urhgan expansion disc will be shipped.

Due to the number of new features included in this expansion, an update of the game will be required for all players (even those who have not installed the expansion). This version update will be performed on the following date in conjunction with the release of the expansion. FINAL FANTASY XI will not be affected during this period, and play will continue as normal.

We will also be conducting server maintenance during this version update, and some players may experience difficulties logging in to FINAL FANTASY XI. If you experience any difficulties, please wait a while and try again later.

Cool, does that mean they start shipping ToAU tomorrow aswell?
 
Nope, shipping date is the 18th, like most games when it says release date, it's actually just the ship date, most stores won't get til the day after, ie the 19th, but I'd hope SE ships it sooner, since ToAU/FFXI 360 is worldwide release, so it'd be nice if it were generally available on the 18th. And on another note, they said related changes will be reflected with release of ToAU, but people can still browse the .dat changes after that patch right?

last I checked people that pre-ordered it (CoP that it) got it several days before, which would mean they shipped it before the 18th <.<; According to the store I pre-ordered it in they usually get the game a few days in advance, but are not allowed to sell it, just how it works with book stores. If they DO sell it before the official release date and they are found out, they might lose their right to sell the product.
 
When I worked at Gamestop it's always been the ship date is the date the company says it releases, and stores didn't get til a day after. That's how it is still when I preorder games there. Sure it may vary from region to region, but in general, a lot of people won't get til the 19th. Not like I mind, gives people a day to hack .dats and find out where the BLU quest is and what you have to do for it, and also what you need to do to get access to Aht Urhgan from Mhaura :P

Gamestop isn't the company that originally ships all the games though, I'm rather sure Gamestop themselves get the game a few days before. But gamestop, just like every other store that sells games, are not allowed to sell it before the 18th, which is why they don't ship it untill the 18th.
 
Idk, tell that to them when I was waiting for KH2, Suikoden V and Oblivion when I called on the "ship date", and they didn't have it in, they received it the day after. The past 5-6 years it's always been that way, they don't get the games early, it's always the day after the ship date. Guess it depends on regions though, closer the store is to where the game ships from, sooner they get it. And Gamestop warehouses do ship it, not originally though, game company, in this case SE, ships however many copies of game to Gamestop warehouses, then Gamestop warehouses divide the amount of games for each store, dependant on how many pre-orders, and extra copies for stragglers, and then ships them to the actual stores. I've never seen a case where my local Gamestop(s), or EBGames have the games in on the ship date, it's always the day after, and usually in the afternoon. Hell I've walked in there the day after the ship date and the driver is still there signing the game packages over to the Gamestop employee heh. Really all depends on region though. Most of the time when I go pickup games the day after the shipdate, the Gamestop employees haven't even opened the boxes and I have to wait for them to check each box for my game lol.

Tiael is right for when he says depends on the region. I work at a Gamestop in New York, and we always get games the day before the release date. We should be getting it in on the 17th if all goes well, and hopefully that is when I can pick up my preordered copy. It's really hard to get caught selling things early though unless they send a person out to your store to see if you are selling it. Our inventory is all internal and doesn't link to an outside source, so they can't tell when we sell things. All we do is let them know we sold stuff and when we need to reorder lol
 
Well, reason I bring it up is that I'm HOPING they will start shipping them tomorrow <.<; otherwise I will have to wait a week to pick up my copy of the game since I live in Sweden and play on the NA version =/
 
Heh, I live in Iowa, it'd be nice if my local Gamestop got on the 18th, but I won't hold my breath. Least I'm not in your boat though, if it's not in the 18th it'll be in for sure on the 19th :P
 
Not possible. It's loaded with FFXI: ToAU and blocks all incoming attacks. =P
 
Yes, but what if SE doesn't have anything ToAU up and running til the 18th and you get on the 17th :P Anyways, I don't mind getting it on the 19th, gives me time for people to check the .dats and find out the 2 most important pieces of info for me, how to get to Aht Urhgan and what you do for/where BLU quest is :P

lol Then I will spend the day cursing out SE on here after getting it all nicely installed. And I'm the same, except replace BLU with PUP.
 
God, I still can't believe it's almost here, I've wanted BLU since I started 2 years ago heh. And have been waiting for it since they unveiled ToAU and BLU at TGS back in September 7months ago :P
 
Yep, SE likes to screw me over -.- I'm trying to lvl my rdm to 75 before the expansion, and Monday and Wednesday are pretty much the only days I have off work this week, so figures SE had to make maintenance on a day I have off, right at the time I'd normally wake up...

Other than that, can't wait to download this update and get the new expansion, already got it pre-ordered and all paid off since last month.

Except there is no server downtime.
 
Might still be hard to get a pty invite during this time since most people may not get on, yet if there are people already on, and since I'm rdm, it might not be too difficult, I'll just have to remember not to log before I go to sleep since it will probably start before I even wake up, that way I won't have trouble logging in.

I'v ealready planned my entire lvling from 1-75 as BLU, including all the different mobs you can possible kill for spells XD
