The video card i'm buying is from tigerdirect, they have a store not too far from my house so i will be going there right after i pick the PC up. Also my friend is upgradeing the ram to 768 for me for free.

Looks like a good deal to me. Getting a machine that can handle running FFXI reasonably well for basically $200 is pretty awesome. Good to hear that you're getting that extra RAM. 768 ought to do. It's not a lot, but FFXI isn't much of a RAM hog anyway, so I wouldn't worry about having more RAM unless you get into running other programs in the background.

I will only run ffXI on it. I will be useing the pc i'm on right now for everything else.

Well i got the PC up and running and its doing great. I did besiged last night and the lag was the same as on my PS2 but with way better grafix. I ended up geting an Nvidia 5500 video card and upted the ram to 768, also picked up a 19" LCD flat monitor.

PS2 users who switch to PC often forget to adjust visual settings to get the most out of their PC. Either the ffxi config utility that comes with the game or Mogtoolz from http://themogtoolz.free.fr/index.htm will help you realize how beautiful this game can really be.

Just tweak until the increase in quality starts affecting your gameplay then back down a notch.

Only problem i've had with the PC is dynamis. I guess i'll have to bring out my trusty ps2 twice a week :(.

Your RAM is fine, but your video card sucks. Card might not even be compatable with FFXI...have seen that with onboards.
