Just felt the need to share an experience that shows how some players can really ruin this game for others. (warning this is more of a rant so its a bit of a read)
I'll give a bit of backstory first. My character is a lvl 55 paladin, this is the highest lvl job I have and though I might of been able to have it to lvl 75 by now, I prefer to only lvl with my bf's whm and spend my online time helping out my ls. In fact, just this week I helped 3 of them get their rank 3, and working on getting them all their rank 5. I often try to help out anyone in my ls, and when I can I give them gil to help buy their equip because as most people know, the more you lvl the more costly your gear gets. Because I have the lvl that I do, I feel the need to help them out a little to make it easier on them. So between helping my ls members with their equipment, and buying new equipment for my pld and helping my bf with his whm scrolls (like most couples, we buy each other whatever is needed depending on who has enough gil), there's a lot of gil being used.
Anyways, I went to ranperre's tomb to camp spook to hopefully get a traveler's mantle as I had just over 100k and at my lvl, that doesn't go very far. I know many people go there now, because its an easy NM because of its spawn time, and I don't mind competing with others. Everyone needs fast gil every once in a while right? But yesterday, I get there and this lvl 75 thf decides to claim some nearby bats, and put them in front of me. I asked him politely to at least have the bats out of my way. If he really felt the need to make it more difficult for me to claim the mob, that's fine and really his problem because he's obviously already fearing that he can't get it without having this advantage. But my issue was after I asked him to keep the bats out of my way, and after I moved away from him... he moved the bats again in my direction, right in front of my character.
So, back and forth I went continueing to move away from him hoping he would stop, but each time I moved he placed the bats directly in front of my character. First spawn, he gets Spook. Fine. Not long before the next spawn, he brings a train of about 10 mobs (gobs, bats etc) and again, places them in front of me. I sent him a tell and pretty much asked why he felt the need to do this, and then he said because I would "spam voke". Well, after asking my ls members about the term (i've played this game for a while, but still terms i'm learning >_<), I find out this means repeatedly mashing your macro.
What I didn't understand was how he concluded I would spam voke. He hadn't seen me play, so he had no evidence to base this on other than to assume. So I explained to him that you couldn't spam voke anyways because an update had made this impossible (you can't claim the mob the second it spawns anymore, your casting/voke will fail if you do) He then proceeded to call me a noob, and told me to stop "bitching". I then asked him on what basis he was calling me a noob and of course he couldn't provide any logical answer... which figures and was expected. Anyways, he got the second claim and for the 3rd spawn, more lower lvl players came so I decided to leave it for one of them to get, seeing as they'd need it more than me and i'd rather farm bats then be around this guy.
What really annoyed me is that first of all, he's a high lvl player who has more access to other gil making methods than I do. There's nothing stopping him from camping higher lvl NMs. I'm not saying he's obligated because of his lvl, but he had this advantage over me because of his lvl. The next thing which bothered me is that he had to intentionally make it difficult for me to claim the target, because he had made the accusation that I would spam voke, which was stupid anyways because all I do is keep my fingers on the macro waiting. But he's not going to know that unless he's sitting beside me. Then the other thing I didn't mention, is he accuses me of having a "bot". Again, i'm not too keen on cheats etc with this game, so I asked my ls members and they told me its a device that runs your character for you.
question: if i'm talking to you through tell, how is it possible to have a bot controlling my character? -_-
Sorry to make this long, but just felt the need to get it off my chest. This high lvl thf really ruined my morning and its just lucky for me I don't let idiots like that discourage me from playing the game. It annoys me that people are like that, they either assume you're gil buyers or using cheats and so they go out of their way to make it even more difficult for you to get ahead in this game. Hopefully he'll get what he deserves in the end though, players like him that ruin the game for others really sicken me.
