People who have ripped you off!

Hello, since we decided to make threads here about people being pricks and such, I was just wondering if people have ever been ripped off by someone.

You know the stories, someone trades an item to someone else who says they're a blacksmith to improve upon it, and then they log out. Or someone gives someone gil as a loan and is never repaid.

The worst in my opinion would be a BCNM fight, when the leader takes all the items and is suppose to divide the profit between the group but instead keeps the profit for themselves. Or perhaps some group of people camp a certain NM and one gets the drop, all should recieve some profit for taking time out to camp it together, but then one prick keeps the gil all for themselves.

I've never been ripped off myself, I know if something is too good to be true it usually is, I don't trade items to people to improve on, and the only person I would loan gil to I know in real life and has been a close friend for over 5 years. The only thing that worries me is possibly doing a BCNM and getting ripped off, so I'm mostly interested in that, but if there is anyone in particular to avoid, the name should be posted here.
 
I was gullable enough to fall into a trap with a particular player. He had wanted to borrow 30k, and stated that without a doubt he would be able to get the money back to me in a day or so, and possibly double it. I gave him the benefit of the doubt (which I will never do again for anyone), and lent him the money. Needless to say, I never got the money back, and he had apparently scammed some other peolpe I know as well. The players name is Budah, and everytime I see him, I bust his balls, and do all kinds of /shouts to sperad the word.
 
The money is there for all jobs and for every player.
Some people seem to get irritated that earning the money takes time. You can farm, craft, whatever...It all takes time.
To a degree I do see that the rich can get richer more easily, but the money is out there for poor players as well.

STOP leveling for a while and go earn the money. It just takes time.

Do not steal from others. You WILL have problems down the road.
 
It's funny you should mention Budah.
He once attempted to rip me off. I saw him shouting in Jueno one day that he was selling Leaping Boots for 150k, current sales at that time was 250k.
so i sent him a tell and told him i'd buy.
he then gets into this crock of s@%@ story about how he was buying them from his Ls leader, and could i put 50k down so he could give it to said leader to get the boots to give to me. LOL i asked him what his ls leaders name was, said it was Habo. Habo?? Shihei selling fishingjerkin wearing always bazaaring Habo?
guess I had "stupid ass-cookie" stamped on my virtual forehead or somthing if he thought that was gonn fly with me. 50k /farewell. yeah right, dont think so buddy.
just 2 days ago i saw him shouting again in jueno claiming to be selling a emp pin at about 70k off ah list price.
i decided to mess whit this twit and shouted a fast recollect of the boots scam and that sure id buy it so long as he had it on him this time.
guess he can't read.
sent me a /tell almost instantly that said ok, come to the hp.
maybe he forgot he tried to rip me i dunno. i played along and made him come to me. he said, its in mog house but ill go get it for a 30k deposit.

now, please tell me, are all conartists so stupid, or are ppl really silly enough to buy a story like this? I mean, does a scam like this work on flat numbers?
like, no matter how many random women you walk up to and say "hey baby nice shoes, want to grind?", is there that one or two out of a few thousand that will agree to the offer?
i dunno, i added him to my /blist for being the servers stupidst conattemptest.

i send him a /tell and he says he would reward me, but he only has 900 gil, so i tell hi hes paying for the telly, cutting my reward in half, i figure ok, so he dosnt have money and needs help, i gots me a heart. we go into gusgen, and we spend about 4 hours trying to get the damned key, then we run around looking for a chest, i see it, but im up on a ledge, and cant figure how to get down without a map, then, he decides he shouldnt tell me sneak is wearing so he aggros an army of, hmm whats in gusgen? its the ghost-banshee type monsters, but i cant remember which type of ghost-banshee now sure, i can take 1, maybe 2 if things go well, BUT 5?!?!?!?!?!?!?! holy crap man.. so i die, at my level, and he dies at his, i lose a significant 400and something more xp then him, then while we call for a raise, dark day ends and he has the nerve to tell ME,"u wasted MY time, i thought i'd get some fucking help, but you dont know shit" me" WTF?!?!!?! dude, im here toi HELP your sorry ass, YOU get us killed and I lose more xp than you, i could have made 700k in the time i spent here!!!! yet no, i decided to HELP you," him " fuck you dumbass" me " no FUCK YOU, dont have the balls to tell me i wasted your time!!!!!!!" i HP in jeuno, blacklist add then give a few warning shouts, -_-
 
Heh. This guy sounds like a real character. He might actually go onto my blacklist and I've never had to deal with him. I'm pretty sure I've at least seen him with shouts.

This isn't much of a ripoff, but it does have to do with money. I hate it when you're running through Sandy, Bastok or Windurst, and even the areas outside, and some random noob runs up "do u have ne spare gil?". #1) There is no spare gil. Unless you don't want it, then it's spare. #2) They usually don't want a big amount. Go outside and kill some rabbits for hides and meat, then sell it to vendors. There's a couple hundered right there. I wouldn't mind giving them gil, but they have to realize that gil doesn't come from asking it from other players, it comes from playing the game. Some of these people just have to realize this.
 
Heh, reminds me of a converstion I had the other day. I was doing the garrison quest in Sandy, and got lucky enough to get the man feet.

Player: Can I have some gil?
Me: Are you serious???
Player: You just got a 30k item.
Me:Wow didn't see that, cool.
Player: Can I have like $100 gil
Me:Do you farm?
Player:I just farmed for the last few hours... Made 4k today!
Me:........
Me:Can I have some gil?
Player:lol


I just find that sarcasm and questions directed back to them usually get rid of them. :)
 
Just wanted to share something that works for me to all that have been burned by rude players that give nasty responses to a politely turned down request for helping. This is what I do when I get these anonymous /tells for "PL me now", "Raise me now":

I respond with: "Do I know you?"

This stops 90% of the requests.

Here's what I say to the remaining 10% that either say "No, but do it anyway" or "Just raise me": "Why?"

At this point they know it's hopeless. And it truly is, because I then proceed to ignore anything from them after asking why.

Budah, huh? PLEASE don't confuse this guy with Lilbuddah, who happens to be one of my most trusted members in my linkshell, also one of my few pearlsackholders! (Main character: Bodhidharma) He's a good guy and would hate to see him go down for someone thinking that he might be one of Budah's scam bots.

That really blows, Synical... I'll have to keep an eye out for this guy as I have a knack for shooting down idiots like that.

I give out gil. Choco fees, etc. only to friends and my TRUSTED LS members, not the guys who've been in there for a week or two.

These stories have made me sick that these players try to exploit someone's greed to only feed their own... I'd like to stay out of that part of the community. Too bad there's nothing you can do, like townkilling or any of that stupid goodness. :)

I've gotten tired of the Gil Requests too. The most Ive ever asked for in a loan was 100 gil because I was in Selbina and that short of Cure II... and I paid it back.
 
well, this is not something that happened to me, but to my 12 yr old son (taru WAR named Chippie also on Quetzy). He loves to explore. He made it to Jueno, alone, @ lvl5 :). he also loves to NM hunt. He was obsessed with lizzy for so long.........

Just as he was about to give up after many days and no pop, lizzy spawns
right in front of him!! he vokes, but sees 2 vokes, Mizterpayne was right behind him and voked simultaneously. Mizterpayne got lizzy, and the drop.
Hey, all is fair NM hunting right? my son, being the good sport he is,
just asked him if he got the drop. his reply was "hahahaha dumbass have fun waiting around some more idiot! I just got here and took it from you HHAHAHAHA" I find that uncalled for.

One day while in Jueno, Chippie and I were hanging out talking and
Mizterpayne walks in, Chippie starts to tell me what he did, and I do a
/fume at him. In the end he gave Chippie 5k and promised him 10k more.
He has yet to see the 10k.

Maybe im just a protective parent, but Mizterpayne has a bit of redemption
to do before this Samurai will ever pt with him again.

If any of you see Chippie running around wherever, please say hi to him
and let him know that there are more good people playing than bad :)

o.O Well I have had mixxed run ins with Mizterpayne myself, thought not really on topic with this thread as he didnt steal anything from me.

Very first time I pt'd with him in Crawlers Nest he seemed to have one of those high an mighty attitudes.. but then the pt we were in wasnt the best.

Second & Third time I pt'd with him though were good experiences, he didn't seem anything like the ass he sounded like in your post. Hmm.. he's a strange one. But I will say he's as good player, and for the most part isnt such a bad guy.

*shrug* Maybe he saw your son being such a low lvl player and his superiority complex kick in autostart and he went off on your son.. *shrug* It's wierd.
 
I remember some Japanese player ask me for 50k gil after I gave him a Mea teleport. Needless to say I /blisted him and was on my way. Too bad I didn't have Warp 2 to send him back to his HP. :twisted: His name was Hiri BTW.
 
I posted in here earlier about mizterpayne and his treatment of chippie,
he has since redeemed himself :)
he came through on his promise of the 10k (although his "sense of humor" is still a little dark) and has had a complete attitude turn around:)

treats another rather unfairly can realize the err of his ways and
correct his past actions :)
 
ive gotten random gil request before. In bastok one time, a lvl 3 whm asked me for some gil. I told him i only had 3k on me. He said "thats ok^^ anything will help!^^" he actually thoguht i was going to give him 3k! I blisted him right away
 
haha, "anything will help." gotta give the guy points for being optimistic. I think ive had that happen to me before to... I didnt /blist the guy, but I told him that asking for gil was frowned upon and gave him a few tips. It also helps to explain that when starting, you dont NEED a bunch of gil, and if anyone gives you a hard time about not having gil/expensive stuff, tell them to share the wealth!

The other day I was thinking about seeing shouts for gambling. "How it works is, you give me your wager (1-5000 gil), then we both /random, and whoever rolls the highest wins." Mor like "You give me your money and I run away."

Why not, we both /random and then we see who owes who money from it.
 
i had a taru lvl 2 bug me in san d'oria for some spare gil. i offered him a few items i had to sell at the AH so he could in turn learn about the way
the economy moves in game and the value of a gil :)
he says "OK thanx"

so i initiate a trade with him and offer him a stack of wind crystals, i figure
thats a decent "free" gift to a new player to help him, right?
wrong!!! he immediately /sh's thats it? you greedy bitch, how did u ever get to be a SAM anyway? i was floored to say the least. here was this little taru dressed in fresh of the character creator rags, cursing me out?

i realize this is just a game, but come on, a little respect please.
maybe im a little too mannered, but when i started i never asked for anything other than information. and when i did, i always started it with "sorry to bother you :) can i ask u a question? "

I now b/list anyone i dont know who asks for cash or sends me rude /tell.
