people who have server migrated

Honestly even though a person leaves and we should give the benefit of the doubt... id rather have a list of those entering the server.... Even for precautionary measures... i mean in example for you Cmdr you can vouch for your friend coming to this server... and more than likely most or 99.99% of this community would back you.

Honestly though, if people wish to transfer to new servers for a fresh start, why not just let them have a fresh new start? Let the new servers worry about them, and us worry about our server. It's not our responsibilty to worry about all the servers.
You seem to have missed it, but the whole point of this thread was to list the people who moved TO our server, so by your own argument, we should be the ones worrying.

Don't you think it's only fair to let those people have a second chance too? Everyone deserves to have another chance, and even if they do screw things up like they always have, then it doesn't concern us anymore? You can only run away so much too until it's time your caught up to or given up.
They've likely gotten their second chance on their own server, but with the transfer, they're able to get away with murder. The only way "their past would catch up to them" is to know what they did on their previous server. That's what this thread was about, not letting people run away from their past just so they can do whatever they want and go join another server of suckers.

It's also not giving them a second chance when you have no idea they need a second chance in the first place; that would require knowing they fucked up before.

Like some have already said here, I wouldn't worry about it too much, and it's nice and all to worry about other communities too, but you have to start worrying about your own community first.
Again, we're worried about our community, let the other servers have the retards who left our server; good riddance.

Reasons I can think of to leave one server for another:

- Want to play with RL/other online friends. If this is the case, who cares what the rest of the server thinks since you have people on that server to play with/vouch for you if you want to do endgame crap.

- Want to move to a better economy. Short-sighted, but I can see this. If you have nothing to hide/worry about I'm sure others from your old server will be happy to stick up for you given the circumstances.

- Want a change in server climate. Toss-up. Are you leaving because you're sick of the server, or because the server is sick of you?

- You stole X, Y, or Z from your LS/old friends/etc (one BG story has someone jacking an entire Proto-Omega drop set + a KClub) and it's time to run run run to a new server. In this case, you're a piece of shit and the new server would do well to shun you/force you to spend another $25 3 months from now.

Most of the positive reasons to transfer don't really care about how the new server views you. All of the negative ones do.

Like ive said... this is just a pro/con warning for the community. Kerowynn already stated that Asura is notified about wtf neolink... (Sorry for the botched quote... too lazy to type entire code)
Kerowynn
Someone from Asura mentioned in another thread that he'd moved there. The person from Asura said he or she warned all his or her friends about him lol.

Btw, he's not gone from qcdn because he just had another account banned from here like 10 minutes ago. =/

So you see? i was just asking the general public what they thought of a posting of members in the community that transfered.... People can vouch pro or con for them... and let the general public decide to trust or not? I dunno, i didnt think that was such a bad idea.

Like someone on BG said, it would be nice if every transferred account had the title "Newcomer from <old server>" as an irreplaceable title for the 90 day cool-down period so you'd have the ability to go to that server's forum (KI, QCDN-style, etc) and ask about that account.

That would honestly be awesome... Again the legit players wont give a shit about the title... and the ones stealing shit cant do much for that full 90 day trial period

The general public should be allowed to make their own decision without having it told to them, which is what a list of newcomers to our server would essentially be. It's akin to saying "Here's this list of people, most likely you can't trust them". I think it's best to just let the people trickle in and then as problems arise we can use the flameboard like it's been used for all other troublemakers. In the meantime, just monitoring intra-server forums will give a good idea of people who could potentially be problematic and if a huge flag goes off about someone then it can be brought to attention here or something.

Example though, would you rather have someone ninja lot a serket ring from an ODS run. Or would you have rather read about it on QCDN prior to doing it KNOWING the person had several people comment on him/her... and steered clear of her.

I mean prime example... I know that person who got his serket ring jacked from him, by queenandariel... would have much rather read a flame about her and steered clear from the ninja lotter

I think we can all agree that being informed about ninja looters and item stealers is a good thing, what I'm disagreeing with is posting a blanket list of names transferred in because that can lead to slandering of people who have done nothing wrong. I don't think that a blanket list is a very nice welcome to our transferrers.

Not exactly what i meant... I would hope that the people listing the Member transfers would post pro or con things about the said person... AND people in the community do have the capable skills of typing pro or con things... dont you agree?

If you're transferring for a positive reason, you should know full well that those already on the server will probably view you in, at best, a neutral light for quite some time. If I go to Midgard I don't plan on applying for any endgame shells (not that I'm in any now/have plans to, but you understand) for at least 3-6 months. It should be understood that respect is earned, not granted.

Right, but again how do we know that someone ninja lotted a serket ring on another server unless somehow we are informed of it happening? If we're informed, then there was no need for a list in the first place. As Cubs has already said himself, it's easy to change a name when you change a server so there's no way to know that anyone who migrated here did something bad in the past. But just having a big list of names and saying "Here, here's everyone we know who migrated" isn't going to help anything. If anything, it's going to make the people who did nothing wrong get treated in a negative manner for no reason. It's too much of a hassle trying to detail who every migrated person is when we can just find out through their actions if they are bad folk or not.

It's not like the people on our own server already are any better, take Queenandriel for example. Just having already been a member of Quetz doesn't mean you're good folk just like having been a member of another server first doesn't mean you're bad folk.

I've known a few great people to already leave for another server. Is the grass really greener? I think making a list of those that bail out on Quetz is of little use. We'll all research new people wanting to join our LS I'm sure and we'll all mourn the loss of close friends. I question for some that after 3 years on Quetz (or more) that now they want to join friends on another server. Or for some that they think ditching Quetz can clear their name. FFXI is a community. Some people a renowned regardless of server/nation/language. I hope Quetz bands together, we have so much invested in her.

Whoever stole that ultima set and KC... their name was mentioned in the corresponding thread, correct? Culprit stamped and userbase forewarned.

Granted, we can't rely on the BG regulars to post an updated list of known assholes who migrated elsewhere to dust their tracks. But the names are out there and are known. Under the circumstance they had to change their name upon arrival, well... having a list of immigrants won't rectify that much.

I think Rappa said basically all the same in his post above, comprehension skills are nil right now.

... comprehension skills are nil right now.

I agree, but only because so few people responded to my very cleverly constructed socio-historical political joke.

Philistines.

In all seriousness, I personally find a "list" of people that haven't done anything (as far as we know) to warrant suspicion to be rather ... excessively zealous? Keeping a loosely bound list of names meant to warn others of people that have actually proven themselves to be asshats is one thing. Flagging a whole group of people, based solely on an otherwise seemingly innocent action, as "suspicious" ... well, it's quite another. It's as close to ethnic profiling as an MMORPG is ever likely to get, which, admittedly, isn't very close at all. It's still a flawed system in principle, though.

Cubswoo definitely has a point when he says:
There are far more negative reasons to leave one server for another over positive ones, ...
But the only solution to that would have been never to implement the feature in the first place. It was a bad idea, in my opinion. It's done, however, and nothing we're going to do ... ESPECIALLY a "who's new" list ... will make a difference. Why?

The alleged protective benefits of such a system have already been debunked: if a person is notorious on another server, it's easily checked out on a case-by-case basis ... and they're likely to reveal their true colors in short order, anyway. If they've changed their name, there's no helping it one way or the other.

Otherwise, I consider it absolutely safe to give every stranger the benefit of the doubt, just as most of us do with genuine Quetzalcoatl natives. Anything else would do nothing but prove that we're even more of a community of bitter, jaded bastards than is already suspected.

Sorry but this entire idea smacks of a witch hunt to me, its 1984 or nazi germany where we now keep nice lists of potentual trouble makers, we can check the names off and harrass then in /shouts in whitegate untill they run off to another server or quit the game.

Really if somebodys a problem at their old server chances are they may become one again in a new haven, then they will gain the popularity they deserve, theres no need to keep checklists on newcomers, the ones that just want a new world to enjoy are not going to benfit from being poked at by suspicous memebers here. In a weird sense you may create your own problem members by keeping a watchful eye on them. (waiting/expecting for them to foul up)

Lets try to be more of a welcoming community and less like armed border patrol police. :)

Jyak, got to hand it to you and Kerowynn, you've done a damn good job so far.

Time to reap what you've sown.

R0

Give it a rest, you're not doing yourself any favours anymore.

No, this thread was created as a result of very reasonable concern ABOUT people like you from OTHER servers. The way you perceive things, the motivations of the world at large center around "personal vendettas" against you.

You know this conspiracy bull shit is just gonna get you more banned and hated in game.

The only reason people continue to hate you know is because you're so self centered, a scare monger and generally an idiot.

You weren't banned because the mods were on a vendetta against you, you were banned because you pull shit like this and generally get on the entire communities' nerves.

I don't feel sorry for you one bit.

I moved here from Asura. I didn't move to escape anybody, I just wanted a change of scenery. I didn't steal anybody's stuff or rip anybody off. I've made friends here over the year I've had a second toon here, and I wanted to bring my real toon over here. I like it here so far, much quieter than Asura is. I've met a some nice people already, done Dynamis with Limitless, and actually found time to solo merit on my Black Mage.

Asura's already been warned about Neolink, I've had people mention stuff to me about him, and the pitchforks and torches are being prepared as we speak. I've been followed here from Asura by only one person, and strange enough people already knew about him...
