So I just started playing again the other day and noticed this new Perle armor set. Looked at my current and it looks like its better, wondering your guy's thoughts. This is for a tp build.

Current:

Head: Walahra Turban
Body: Hauberk +1
Hands: Dusk Gloves
Legs: Homam Legs
Feet: Homam Feet

Totals of these:

Defense: 107
STR: 6
DEX: 6
Attack: 17
Accuracy: 21
Haste: 14%
HP: 107
MP: 87

Totals of Perle set:

Defense: +179
STR: +22
DEX: +14
Attack: +25
Accuracy: +18
Haste: +13%
Critical hit rate: +2%

The changes in stats if I were to switch from my current to perle:

+72 def
+16 str
+8 dex
+8 atk (+12 more attack from the STR) Total: +20 atk
-3 acc (+6 acc from the DEX) Total: +3 acc
-1% haste
+2% crit

Is this a no brainer that its better? Maybe I'm crazy

WTF SOMEONE BLEECHED MY LUISANT SET

They're honestly so similar that it will be hard to notice a difference.

I would choose the mixed set. It has many more options to become better than Perle.

The loss of 1% Haste to gain 3 accuracy, 20 attack and 2% crit doesn't seem worth it to me. With full haste buffs and gear (including Swift+Blitz), a 501 delay becomes 227.0156 with a mixed set. A 501 delay becomes 232.3975 with the Perle set. Roughly 3.8 and 3.9 seconds between each attack.

Assuming both sets engage at the exact same time over the course of 60 minutes, the mixed set produces many more hits than Perle. Both are rounded down to the nearest whole.

Mixed: 947
Perle: 923

Will acc+3, crit+2% and attack+20 really close the gap between 24 additional attacks? I sincerely doubt it. More attacks equal more weaponskills.

Adaman Hauberk and Dusk Gloves +1 make that gap even bigger.

These comparisons are akin to previous similar scenarios and equipment like March/March VS. March/Minuet and especially Walahra Turban VS. Ace's helm.

March/March always wins.

Unfortunately Walahra Turban always wins too, sorry robodrks.

From the history of those two examples I gave, it all comes down to personal choice.

I am also totally biased because I finally completed Homam and the next week SE tried to outclass it!?

Honestly, the only place I could find to fit Perle into a setup was a Catastrophe build. I came up with some pretty interesting sets with Perle hands and Legs.

I'm not normally the one to ask questions like this, but does the +16 str give absolutely nothing other than the 12 atk? And the 8 dex would also increase crit rate, correct? I'm not sure how the crit tiers work, so maybe it's not enough to make a difference. If either of those arn't very important, then I agree with dowzer. I wasn't looking forward to looking queer in perle, but now I don't have to.

Could be worse, it could be pink (looking at you, Aurore).

All-around, it's a very solid set. Mileage may vary depending on use. I'm no mathologist, but I'd be surprised if you didn't gain some fSTR from the additional STR. I know it's a terrible breach of board etiquette to link to another site, but there are places which have "What's Better?" threads which have been going into greater detail about the similarities and differences of mix-and-match and full Perle, and exactly what the different stats provide. There are plenty of mathologists and wanna-be mathologists to be had, but they can be princesses at times, too.

I'm openly reluctant to invest heavily in any new gear set that is not a clear improvement based on the simple principle that these sets are transitory at best.

Just my two cents...

It's absolutely a very solid set. GREAT for low budget / non-main DRKs.

There really isn't any excuses anymore. If your not using e body/homam (which for various reasons is understandable) then your flat out gimp if you don't have a full perle.

Good-bye full AF / plastron DRKs..... Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

when you put it like that you are exactly right. if you dont have homam, then you have a easily obtainable set thats a pretty solid set.

I wouldn't mind asking how STR can raise your weapons base damage on BG's thread, "What's Better?" I do know that it won't raise the value very much, even with a lot more STR. Scythe already has very high damage. I recall reading fSTR is noticeable on weapons like Hand-to-Hand but harder to raise as your base damage increases.

That's probably the best place to ask those questions, even my 13% VS. 14% Haste is pretty far fetched because perfect scenarios such as engaging at the same time rarely happen in the game itself.

Tomasello and Raes are right on the money, great ways to put it.

Looking at cached versions of the fSTR and Weapon Rank pages on the wiki, I'll have to agree. For higher base DMG weapons, the minimum fSTR is pretty high already; overcoming the minimum fSTR on something like a scythe with 100+ base DMG would take a pretty substantial total STR. +16 STR in a TP set is unlikely to push one off of the minimum, when fighting anything worth talking about.

It has come to my attention that the Perle Head piece has a typo/misprint on it. Intead of the 2% that it says on the English version, its really 3% (per the JP version). People have tested this with recast timer. That little tidbit of information kinda changes it for me. Essentially you can get the exact same amount of haste with a mix and match set as you can with the Perle set. You will get less acc, but more DEX,STR,Attk + Crit hit increase.

So given that info, i would like to reverse my opinion and say, pick it up.

I tested with my Patroclus's helm (Haste +2%) and Perle gave a lower recast when using Dread Spikes.
