So yeah, I'm glad it's on PS2 still, but not, cause I'd love Persona on a 360 or PS3.

This should release here, especially since Persona 3: FES is coming next month to NA.

The basis sounds fun too, a "murder mystery", and using weather to determine when murder occurs. A lot of Personas too.

oh man, I still need to get Persona 3 XD

Just wait for Fes next month, it has an enhanced version of the original game, with various extras such as a hard mode, extra costumes, new quests and events, and 20+ more Persona.

That's not all though, there's a continuation of the original story, Episode Aegis, which totals 30+ hours, so it's like 2 games in 1, plus it's only 29.99.

oooo :D that sounds pwnsome :P oh, I know this isn't the topic, but I might as well ask you cause you're looking forward to the game too.. WHERE THE HELL IS NEW INFORMATION ON WHITE KNIGHT CHRONICLES? XD I want that game so bad :|

No clue, last I heard it was supposed to release in Japan early to mid 2008, with a worldwide release to follow shortly after(read: 6months to a year). Give it a few months, hopefully hear more soon.

I myself am getting frustrated at the lack of info though, especially if it is a few months off... but if it does get delayed eh I won't be surprised.

I just wish I could fast-forward time to see what their next title after WKS is(other than DQIX and Professor Layton titles)... I'm hoping for Dark Cloud 3, or even Rogue Galaxy 2.

oh gawd, I'd love a new Dark Cloud game, I loved that series <3

The seventeen minute trailer in two parts for anyone who missed it:

Some info I dug up on Wikipedia and GameFaqs.

Story

In the rural town Yasoinaba, there have been mysterious murders occurring whenever there was fog after heavy rain. There were also rumors about a channel on television airing only at midnight called Mayonaka TV, during which it is said that you can see your "other half" when staring at the TV screen. After hearing about a recent unsolved murder which occurred during the fog, the main characters, yourself, Chie, and Yousuke discuss how each of you had attempted to watch the mysterious TV channel and witnessed the murder victim. You later realize that during midnight when the channel is on, your body can phase into your television set as a gateway to enter another world infested with shadows. After discovering this, you all decide to explore. When first completely entering the world, dazed and confused, you meet Kuma. Mayonaka TV and the town murders seem to have a connection. The murder victims may be merely victims of Mayonaka TV. Everyone decides that they will together try to solve the mysterious murders by exploring the hidden world of Mayonaka TV.

Characters

Main Character - The silent male protagonist of the game who represents the player, following the tradition of the Megami Tensei games. He has dark-gray hair with a shape close to a bowlcut. His Persona is Izanagi. He attends Yasogami High School with Chie, Yousuke, and Yukiko. As with most protagonists of Megami Tensei games, his entire personality, even his name, is decided and portrayed by the player's in-game actions and decisions. His respective color is olive.

Chie Satonaka - An upbeat girl with short light-brown hair who usually wears a green athletic jacket decorated with buttons. She has an obsession with Chinese martial arts, and even seems to be proficient in forms of it, similar to Lisa Silverman of Persona 2. Her obsession goes so far that she even attacks Yousuke over a Jackie Chan DVD. Her Persona is Tomoe Gozen of the Chariot Arcana, which compliments the fact that she is a sort of "warrior woman". Most of the time, she is friendly, cheerful, and energetic, but she has a short temper, especially with Yousuke. Her respective color is green.

Yousuke Hanamura - An awkward boy with slightly unkempt reddish-brown hair who usually walks around with a music player and red/orange headphones around his neck. He apparently uses knives such as kunai, ninja throwing knives, in battle. His Persona is Jiraiya. He is usually very clumsy and often used as comic relief through physical comedy in situations where he either unintentionally causes himself pain, or is forced to go through Chie's angry beatings when he provokes her. When going from place to place, he is usually on his bike. His respective color is orange.

Yukiko Amagi - An elegant girl with long groomed black hair and a red hairband in it who usually wears either a red jacket or a pink kimono, carrying with her either a paper fan, which she also uses in battle, or an umbrella. Her Persona is Konohanasakuya, which, because Konohana is viewed as the epitome of Japanese life, and Yukiko is of the Yamato Nadeshiko archetype, they compliment each other very well; both are viewed as distinguished Japanese women. Adding to this, she apparently belongs to a very wealthy family and has high standards. Her respective color is red.

Kanji Tatsumi - A male delinquent with a bright-blonde/silver, swept-back, crewcut who has a scar above his left eye, many piercings, metal jewelry, and wears a black sweater with a skull-and-crossbones design on it under his school uniform. It seems that he uses brute force in combat, using weapons such as steel chairs. He apparently gets into a lot of fights in the streets. His Persona is Take-Mikazuchi. He also attends Yasogami High. His respective color is gray.

??? - A cheery-looking female with bright-red hair (reminiscent to that of Mitsuru Kirijo or Chidori Yoshino of Persona 3) tied in two pigtails. She will provide background information during and outside of battles. She seems to be a sort of idol character, and possibly a J-pop singer. Apparently, she also attends Yasogami High. She is the support character after Kuma and assists the party by giving information from afar rather than physically fighting. Her Persona currently remains unknown. Her respective color is pink.

??? - A mature-looking male with dark-blue hair who almost always wears a navy-blue officer's hat, and sometimes, a black officer's uniform along with it. His clothes and gestures make him somewhat similar to the protagonist of Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. The Soulless Army while his face and hair resembles that of the protagonist of Persona 3. He uses a revolver in combat, similar to Takaya of Persona 3. Though he appears to be a young officer of the law, he also seems to attend Yasogami High. His respective color is blue.

Kuma - A strange stuffed-bear-like creature with blue fur and a red/white jumpsuit who resides in the world of Mayonaka TV. He serves as outside support in battle, but is later replaced and becomes a party member during battle. His Persona is Kintouki-douji. He is often used as comic relief. His head is safely removeable, as demonstrated when Yousuke forcefully pulled it off, suspecting Kuma's appearance was merely a costume with nothing inside. Around his neck is a zipper, which must mean it can also be zipped off.
  • Gameplay will be an improved version of Persona 3.
  • 180+ personas.
  • Social links make a return.
  • Persona Fusion will return.
  • All-out attacks will return.
  • Everyone in your party will be associated with a social link.
  • With some social links you'll have the option of either being best friends or getting intimate with them.
  • Party member AI will be back, but players can opt to manually control them as well.
  • It looks like you can literally smack some sense into your party members if they're afflicted with panic to snap them out of it, push them out of harm's way, or even help them up if they've been knocked down.
  • Bosses seem to be dark/shadow versions of each character's persona.
  • Dungeons seem to be TV channels based on the characters' innermost desires, and the bosses are reflections of their true selves.
  • Elizabeth, Igor's assistant in the last game, is replaced by Margaret.
  • Multiple endings.
  • As the story takes off two years after the events in Persona 3 there will be references, and possibly cameos, from P3 and its anime spin-off, Trinity Soul.
As of right now it's still slated for a July 10th, 2008, Japanese release and has yet to be announced to be released stateside.

I already have a vague idea of what my party setup's gonna look like.

Persona 4 US release date {Can I have it?}

Awesome! The battle system looks like it has some stuff added to it and the general gameplay outside of battle looks a little less ghetto than Persona 3.

I'll have to beat the 3rd one and check this out. I need to play the first two as well.

How is that Devil Summoner series?

Devil Summoner is wonderful.

How is that Devil Summoner series?

I'm pretty sure there is not a series for this as of yet. So far, it's just one game, here. It's okay but havin' played Nocturne, Digital Devil Saga 1 and 2, and Persona 3 I found it extremely lackin' and very borin'. I may have enjoyed it more if I had played it before some of the more in-depth SMT games.

Devil Summoner and Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers are the predecessors to the PS2 Devil Summoner, but were never distributed in the US.

I've never played them, so I can't give much insight on the quality of any of the games.
Maybe I should pick it up sometime.

Oh, then to answer your real question, they're awesome, awesome games. I would suggest Nocturne as well. It's part of a trilogy, the last part actually, but they made it as more of a stand alone finisher, if you know what I mean. I liked it better than the DDS series but it's on a scale that the word badass can't even touch. I'd suggest findin' a strategy guide for it too, a real one not a Gamefaqs one. Nocturne will chew you up and spit you out if you let it.

On a side note, I hope to hell the MMORPG Atlus is currently recruiting workers for is to get SMT: Imagine or something SMT online to the states.

You know Busta, thanks a lot. You just cost me a grip of cash... Remindin' me how badass Nocturne, DDS 1 and 2 was cost me about $120 and for completion sake I had to grab Devil Summoner for another $18. >_< That seriously cut into my "Tales of" title's budget.

Uh, who doesn't love a good pair of man-eating boobs?

No, really.
Good games.

Heh. I have a soft mod for my PS2, so I'll try them out before I pick them up. I loved Tales of Phantasia but I wasn't a big fan of the one on the Gamecube. It wasn't bad but I have a hard time playing through it. The story is just so lame and the voice acting, in general, sucks.

Bump, anyone pick this up? It came out earlier this week and wondering what everyone's opinions are of it thus far.

I haven't gotten it yet, but am getting it for Christmas, can't wait til I can play it.

I picked it up when we got it on Wednesday. I haven't even gotten through the artbook yet, much less played the game. I wanna finish up DAH, and then i'll be getting to this.
