Pilonidal Cyst

I had one of these...it had to be removed via surgery and the recovery (due to complications) took around 2 years. During that time it was nothing but pain, really. Couldn't walk or really move much, I gained like 200 lbs.

Luckily since that time I've since lost all that weight and then some, and the pain is gone, but those 2 years had a profound impact on my life and personality, as weird as that sounds. Spending 2 years in a room, alone, none of your friends visiting you while you're in terrible pain....

Let's just say I'm not much of a people person anymore.

eep that sucks man :\ I think I'm almost done with the drainage just been going to school then coming home cleaning it up and laying on a heating pad. Going to try going to work an eleven hour shift today

Did anyone who has had it have the dimple/sinus cavities for it to drain out of cause I did and I think I see the cyst just wondering will that go back away until the next flare up or is that there until removed?

how do you end up getting this? it looks really painful...and i hope you get better

I had one about 10 years ago when I was in college. I didn't take care of it right away since I didn't have insurance at the time and the surgery wasn't all that cheap. I did have it drained by the doctor at that time and the cut he made never did heal over so I would soak in a hot tub until it would pop and start draining anytime it would flare up. It would usually flare up every few weeks so it was a pain to deal with.

I did finally have a type of surgery done and haven't had a problem with it since. It wasn't the nasty surgery with having to pack the wound for after. The surgeon just made 4-5 X cuts and used a sort of vacuum to suck the shit out of it. The multiple X cuts were to help it keep draining after the surgery was over. The recovery time was very short by doing it this way and it wasn't all too painful. I was off of work for 1 week but really only had pain for 3-4 days.

Peace,
Shmedly

A lot of time it is caused by a hair that is forced back into the skin and keeps growing until creates a cavity. It infects the cavity and that is where the puss comes from. It is sometimes called "Jeep Drivers disease" cause a lot of WWII soldiers had it from all the bouncing around the did in jeeps. lol

Best way to avoid irritation is to not sit on hard surfaces and make sure that you're not wearing clothing and/or doing activities that might cause abrasion of that area, which would include a few sports or off-roading or evening dancing. Keep the area clean (obviously) and try to be careful of taking too warm showers/baths, since this could cause it to rupture. Depending on the severity of it, this could be a good or extremely bad thing, so yeah.

*adding* It may fester up if it doesn't drain entirely or is aggravated / not treated after rupturing, of course. So when this time comes you should above the above things for a few days all the same just to be safe, and at the very least keep a sterile bandage over it. If you don't you might get...ADDITIONAL PILONS.

Sorry, had to say it. Really though, good luck with this. It's a pretty difficult infection to deal with.

The Vaspene gysers have been depleted though so I think I'm good for a little while..

Can I still play dance dance revolution with this thing? lol

You could, but I honestly wouldn't recommend anything too severe since too much friction (i.e. jeans or shirt rubbing against the area) could cause irritation or if unlucky, another flare up. This could be reduced by having a bandage over it, but even then there'd be the issue of jeans and/or shirts rubbing against the bandage, which would be about as uncomfortable.

If it's comfortable to play regardless of this you could try, but I'd still be careful. Also, be sure to wash up soon after to minimize risk. Just pressing that last fact a little bit since it's something friends and family don't seem to do quite enough when it comes to infections and such.

nvm, at least I didn't google this, hope it goes well grand

Or play naked... =P

(Hey, it's one way to make sure there's no friction...)

Another way they are formed, are when you are developing in your mothers womb. When you first start forming in your mom you are just a bundle of cells, splitting and splitting into a large mass of cells. Then that cell mass folds in half on itself creating a seam on one side which eventually forms your spine. Sometimes, a microscopic bubble of fluid gets trapped in the folding cells near the seam (in the area that will eventually be your buttcrack) and gets lost in the cell mass. Then your body develops regularly, and you get born. That bubble of fluid causes the cells along the inner walls of the bubble to develop just like your external skin. It's like a small pocket of external skin growing inwards. So sometimes, hair will grow inwards into the pocket, and cells will shed and become compacted in the pocket, causing infections and pain.
