So I just moved into this place and it will be a month or so before I can get going back again with High Speed until then though i would really like to try to play. A few questions though:

How the hell am I supposed to hook this up to my PS2? Im assuming a long ass phone chord but am I going to have to change a bunch of settings?

How much different is it on Dial up? I heard the game runs so slow it doesn't make that much of a difference if all I really wanted to do was level or more slow paced activities.

Ok I guess that was only a couple of questions, and yes, I know, this fucking sucks.

honestly i would say dont even bother with the trouble, dial up is so lol that it would be better to just wait till you can get your high speed back then try playing on dial up

One of my friends plays on dial up (his only option ><) although I poke a lot of fun at him, he does very well with it from the occasional lagging.

Chrisaga plays on dial-up and is able to tank flawlessly. I think the only things to keep in mind are to turn down your character models during things like Besieged/Campaign, put a lot of chat filters in place, and turn things like shadows and weather effects off.

dial up is ok, i used to play on dial up before i got high speed. You should be ok in normal group situation. definitely not besieged or other event with lot of people.

I would also suggest you waiting to get High Speed. I've called both Playstation and America Online to see if they could hook me up via the phone line, and they both told me to call the other.

Can't do that on PS2.
It runs okay, for the most part. I had a friend who played under dial up for a few months, and despite being d/c'd every 2 hours exactly for some reason, the game ran fine.

I've only played on PS2 dial up, and maybe have been DC'd like...2 times in my entire 2 years. It's never affected my ability to do anything in game, although updates are a bitch.

Set up:

POL you have to change the settings to your ISP provider's dial out number, input your password and username for all your ISP stuff, assuming you already have dial up account or something before. I don't remember all the details, so you might want to read the manual. You might need to configure it on your network adapter.

As for the rest, yup, plug the long ass cord into the adapter.

When I first started I was on dialup, and the only time I ever really wished I was on broadband was updates. Besides that, the game ran fine.

Awesome thanks for the good replies, gonna go to radio shack and buy a 50ft phone chord i guess. Keeping the receipt on that bitch to take back when i get high speed at the end of the month hee hee

Lol, are you talking about me Xal?

Ya, I play on dial up over the summer when I'm at home, it's not bad honestly. I can do dynamis just fine, but I stay the hell away from besieged, and sometimes campaign. And it is like clockwork, every 2 or 3 hrs expect a d/c.

Downloaded too much stuff last month and so my cable got reduced to dialup speed. I couldn't even download my email, but had no problems with FFXI, even in Dynamis. Lots of people's speed issues are more computer issues than connection issues (obviously apart from losing connection...)
