Ok, thanks for checking this out.

i just reinstalled the game . bought the new 2008 game, got everything updated. AND NOW Playonline wouldnt play. comes up with a error screen, i can bypass the error popup and get to the "Play" button. But when i clink it, PO goes bye bye and have to restart it from the begining.

Thought maybe the new 2008 PO was bad. so i un-installed it and installed the 2005 Ver. it worked. till i had to update PO then same thing happen. i check google,QCDN and found nothing.

i dont use Vista. XP3 is my baby till i die or Bill stops fucken things up.

ok here is a picture of error and stuuf about it my PC. thanks if you can help, if not then i'm done with the game. :cry:

error pop-up -
"A cabinet file necessary for installation cannot trusted. Please verify the Cryptographic services and the cabinet file certificate is valid." -

is what i get, when going to Microsoft website and down load the new March 09 update.

Hmm... i rechecked all the updates on graphic card, and it is updated.

thanks for the link and info, still trying to understand this carp, 1st having this happpen

well i just installed DirectX10 and still getting this error.. it might be worth it just upgrading to Vista.. HELL NO! i'll sell my account before that...

I like how one error message immediately turns into BAWW VISTA BAWW.

Jesus. Is the hatemongering against Vista really that bad now?

Windows 7 looks sweettt! and it's the first non Bill Gates version :)

ok i did that and nothing new. i even removed 10 and went back to D8.1 then D9.0c.
and i found 6 dinput8.dll on my PC, are they all the same? couldnt i just copy the updated one and paste it in the other files???

ok, just got Uniblue RegistryBooster, ran it and found like 92 Reg errors. and just un-installed the game again. going for #3, hoping 3 is a lucky number.

Hmm.. never seen this before. bypass the error pop-up. but this time i hit "PLAY" and got this..

lol,

agreed. windows 7 looks even better, graphically, than vista not to mention the great features it has. works great even in beta testing with all current games. i especially like the feature of it shutting down un-needed system processes when you run a game.

as for the current prob your having, is that all your seeing? or does it eventually go through?
if i remember right, after hitting play, the pol viewer goes into the actual gaming mode. which at that point, it may be optimizing it for use with DX since you technically uninstalled DX and are running it as if it were the first time.

You might have made a good call with the registry checker, something's gone haywire in your OS. It looks like something related to the installer screwed up and it's failing to register the game properly on installation. Would also explain why DirectX isn't reinstalling correctly either.

Not really sure about this. I know you can reinstall the installer in Vista, don't know about XP though.

anything screwy showing up in device mgr? media or video specifically

I'm back,

nothing eles is messed up, but PO/FFxi . i just reinstalled it for the 7th time and still, once i get a PO update i get that error. hmm, i tryed rolling back before i updateds XP to see if that had anything to do with it. and nothing. i even downloaned the .Dll file and replaced the old files, even tossed one into PO file. lol

:badwords: But atlast i to am stuck like a cow in a mud hole after a heavy rain :banghead3:

Thanks to other website, i got it fixed.

here is the info for all.

* First Download the "dinput8.dll" (lowercase)
* reset window xp, hit/hold "F8"
* enter "Safe Mode"
* goto C:\Windows\system32\
* delete dinput8.dll
* paste the new one.
* reboot and check, should work.

Cause if you just dropped the .dll in the folder,
windows well just go back to the first dinput8.dll and delete
the newer one.

Yay, about time =P
