If you are against the Military Commisions Act of 2006 then please contact your congressmen and ask them to support this:

Will the Military Commission be rolled back?

Senator Dodd is stepping up to the plate and tomorrow will stand tall:

Washington- Senator Chris Dodd (D-CT), an outspoken opponent of the Military Commission Act of 2006, today introduced legislation which would amend existing law in order to have an effective process for bringing terrorists to justice.

The Effective Terrorists Prosecution Act:

* Restores Habeas Corpus protections to detainees
* Narrows the definition of unlawful enemy combatant to individuals who directly participate in hostilities against the United States who are not lawful combatants
* Bars information gained through coercion from being introduced as evidence in trials
* Empowers military judges to exclude hearsay evidence the deem to be unreliable
* Authorizes the US Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces to review decisions by the Military commissions
* Limits the authority of the President to interpret the meaning and application of the Geneva Conventions and makes that authority subject to congressional and judicial oversight
* Provides for expedited judicial review of the Military Commissions Act of 2006 to determine the constitutionally of its provisions

This is currently not the case under the Military Commission Act, which will be the subject of endless legal challenges. As important, the bill would also seek to ensure that U.S.servicemen and women are afforded the maximum protection of a strong international legal framework guaranteed by respect for such provisions as the Geneva Conventions and other international standards, and to restore America’s moral authority as the leader in the world in advancing the rule of law.

“I take a backseat to no one when it comes to protecting this country from terrorists,” Sen. Dodd said. “But there is a right way to do this
and a wrong way to do this. It’s clear the people who perpetrated these horrendous crimes against our country and our people have no moral compass and deserve to be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. But in taking away their legal rights, the rights first codified in our country’s Constitution, we’re taking away our own moral compass, as well.”

For those of you who don't know what the Military Commisions Act of 2006 is then watch these three short videos. They are MSNBC coverage of this very important piece of legislation. Warning: Hardcore right-wingers might get a little offended by this news coverage if they are pro-Bush.

I have to ask, what is with all the USA bashing you do? If you dislike your leadership and everything they embody, you'd do well to move.

What the hell are you talking about? I don't bash the USA. I bash the corrupt leaders that pass unconstitutional legislation and go about foreign policy illegally and immorally. I am extremely pro-America.

What that is about is a US SENATOR is trying to get a piece of legislation passed that would amend a uncontitutional law that was recently passed. When the Military Commisions Act of 2006 was passed, over 90% of Dems in both the house and senate rejected the bill but because the GOP were in control of congress, the bill managed to get passed. I'm hoping that the anti-American bullcrap that was passed when the republicans were in charge will be repealed so I can stop worrying about our country turning into everything our founding fathers fought to get away from.

I'm not going to argue with people in this thread. It's merely to inform people . I'll answer further questions but I will not reply to insults or any other form of instigation.

This is one of the few things I agree with this administration on. If you see a soldier, don't do anything to get you shot. It's common sense, and pretty retarded that we punish our own soldiers for defending themselves against hostile civilians. You have to be one of the biggest morons in the world to believe this part of the act is evil.

No no..

That's would the repeal of the act would do. The Military Commisions Act of 2006 states that the president, secretary of defence, or any person or group of people they choose all have the power to accuse ANYONE (citizen or not) of being an unlawful enemy combatant at any time. They don't have to be doing crap. They could be completely innocent. It doesn't matter. Watch the videos once you have some free time please. All of them are only about 25 minutes together.

edit: I'm so high. This whole post made no sense.
