How do I set it up so I will receive an email when I get a new PM?

I noticed that in thread you can hit "subscribe - instant email" option - do you have to post something on the thread in order to "subscribe"? Meaning - all the threads that we were subscribed to - do we need to go and post something to re-subscribe?

Lastly - how the hell do you use the smilies in your posts??? <3

To get emails when you get new PMs:

Go to the "User CP" section on the top right of any forum page; there, click on "Edit Options." In the second section down, "Messaging & Notification," check the "Receive Email Notification of New Private Messages" box.

Titles are one of the next things Sculli said would be fixed in one of the posts about the forums state (probably the sticky in Gen Discussion). During the move the board system was changed as well, and so a simple DB dump probably wouldn't save all of the custom settings that had been made on the prior system.

Smiles are listed here. As you can see, many of the images are missing, that too will be updated eventually, but like sculli has said, getting the basic functions to work properly like permissions and whatnot was more important than bringing back titles and smilies

I am having problems...I have subscribed, and enabled instant emails to a few threads, and am not getting emailed when someone new posts...

I know I am probably doing something idiotiocally wrong...is anyone else having problems?

Check what you setting is under Default Thread Subscription Mode on that page. it is the only thing i can think of that may not be set up right ('-';
