Sidewinder > Guillitine.

Power Slash > Vipeer Bite

Sidewinder > Sickle Moon is not much worse than Guillotine. I might lose 50-100 dmg. Sometime gain dmg as Guillotine is unpredictable even with high accuracy. Not that big a difference

As for the other one, your right. Thats why I dont enjoy pting with thfs pre 60 -.-

Again if you invited me to a group and told me I want you to do this weaponskill to fit into this skillchain I would then do that. Most groups I gwt invited to I initially ask "What is the skillchain?" I get a bunch of "Don't bother" "I don't know" "What would you suggest because we don't know." So I then set up the skillchain and the mages will ask me what the burst is for that. In the majority of cases I wouldn't feel bad for switching weapons because if I wasn't in the group they wouldn't be skillchaining anyways.

If you were to invite me for a specific purpose in your plans I would have no problem fitting that role. Like I said I always ask if anyone has a problem with me switching weapons (again just to cap for that level) and I swear if even one person said yes they did I wouldn't do it.

I guess I'll just play it by ear like Firestreak suggested. If it is an awsome group I will give it my best and if it's a bunch of people mucking around I will switch out...

I would never skill up a weapon in a party, thats just plain stupid, but I have to admit... if the party is really good I stop using Utsusemi on pulls for better EVA skillups.

Shhhh, its a secret.

Better a Dark Knight that levels GS and Scythe then one who doesn't. If it doesn't effect the skillchain I say go ahead.

That's one reason I love Rangers more every day. Either way they can open for me. <3

Hehe, just wait...at 55 they will start closing for you ^^. That is one thing I never understood, people put these weak ass weapons skills at the end of a chain. Not saying Viper Bite is weak, cause I know its not, I mean other situations. Like 55+, Sidewinder does from 550 on high defense mobs to 900+. Yet people insist the Ranger goes first. I mean closers may do like 400 damage or so, but you will only get a measly 200 SC damage or so. I on the other hand can get up to 400+ dmg on the SC, yet I always end up opening.

I almost even had a party insist that I use Piercing Arrow post 55. I was like if you want me to use Piercing Arrow, then I am outta here...

Lastly, Skilling up is fine. But you should skill up every few levels or so. You dont have to max out right away. Use a GS every 3 levels in XP session. Yeah I had one guy who was like 30 levels under cap, only weapon he had because he wanted to skill up with it. Was hitting for like 5 damage a hit, when he hit... Do NOT do that...

Fae

A few things...

First off, if there's a very good SC going and you want to change weapons, only do it if you can either have the same or a similar SC. Example: I was partying using my Scythe the other day. SC was Tachi: Koki >> Guillotine for Induration, against crawlers. After a bit, my scythe skill capped and I wanted to switch to greatsword so I could cap that as well. So, the new SC was Tachi: Enpi >> Sickle Moon for Distortion. Powerful closer for both, a decent opener, and the same MB. That's an example of an acceptable mid-party weapon change.

However, if the SC was something like Spinning Slash >> Arching Arrow for Light, and I wanted to swtich to Scythe, that would be a bad thing. The SC we're getting is very powerful, and the closest we can get with me using a scythe is Cross Reaper >> Arching Arrow for Fusion.

Also, you really shouldn't exp with a weapon if it's really low (20+ levels below cap). Or, if you do want to exp with something that's somewhat low, make sure you load up on +Accuracy gear and bring your capped weapon with you (i.e. if you want to skillup your 20-levels-behind Greatsword in a party and your scythe skill is capped, bring your normal scythe with as well).

I think if you do the following thing it's ok
1) Ask the party
2) Alt Skill Chain
3)Have the weapon freshly uncapped. (Dont come to CN with capped axe and then bust out your level 10skill G.Axe and ask to skill up)
4) Have a decent weapon, again, dont show up with the best axe for your level and then pull out a level 12G.axe.

I'm not calling anyone out or being defensive I just want people to know that I wasn't trying to, nor would I try to cap a weapon skill that was so far behind in an exp group. In my senerio both weapons are capped until I level so both only would then need 3 more skillups each to be capped yet again. I'm not sure if I have much or any reputation in the community with the slowness in which I level but I would like to make sure the little bit of rep I might have isn't tarnished.

Heh I can't wait until I get my War, Thf, and maybe Sam to 37 so I can go back to monk.

"Would you like me to use fists or fists? Seriously how many times will clubs be expected.

I don't plan to level up THF unless I find a KRT Bone party falling into my lap near endgame. Too much raw damage lost for the sake of fuidama. I understand why people do it(close Light with fuidama Dragon Kick), it just doesn't appeal to me.

As for other MNK weapons, you might want to skill up Staff - I've seen some pretty sick videos of a macro'd-in Thunder Staff for Hundred Fists. The crit rate was absolutely astounding. Plus you can tool around with a Warp Cudgel every now and then.

Honestly in the upper levels where it *really* matters you will likely be in multiple parties per level and those parties will probably ask you to use different weapons. If your a drk with a thf you can open for them with Vorpal Scythe OR power slash (and sub war yay!). Sam and drk is almost always crossreaper and tachi gekko. Parties with pal's can have swift blade to cross reaper... It all really depends on the makeup. After spinning slash you will primarily do that but not every party can and you should be able to keep both capped no problem. Thats for drk anyways. (I'm not counting the quested WS for this but yes I know what they are and where they work.)

If you ask ahead of time theres no reason not to. As party leader I don't have a problem with it because theres almost always 2 or 3 good skillchains. And usually at least 2 ways to make distortion in any decent party. Of course if you want to use something where the only skillchain is Liquification then no, but if theres a good lvl2/3 chain alternative (at appropriate levels) then yes fine. And the next party will probably ask you to use the other weapon. If your leader you can build a party around g-axe one time and 1hand axe the next. Thats one of the perks to being leader :P

I could see myself messing around with club/staff for fun while farming (need something to break the monotony) but in an exp group I probably wouldn't mess with it. Our rating with clubs/staves is pretty low (D?) so our hit rates, damage, and tp gain would suffer, except maybe at end game where you'd be fighting a lot of T's and VT's from what I hear.

I have heard of the rumors of the hilarious and shocking nature that is Hundred Fist with Staves/Clubs.

I sometimes think people dont read the first post completely and just vote based on title. So many probably dont even know that its asking about just 3-5 lvls to just cap for the lvl lol

Yeah hind sight is 20/20 as the saying goes.

Doesn't matter anyway, just ignore the poll and read the posts. I think the major point to make is, in all practicallity, you're level 31. You can't skillup because there's no skillup parties your level yet. People expect of you to have both weapons capped but at the same time they don't want you to skill them up during exp parties. It's pretty lame because there's no way you can satisfy everyone. So just keep doing what you're doing til you're high enough to cap them both on coffer key mobs. I think it shows you're a responsible player for keeping them capped as opposed to a lot of WAR who just can't be bothered. Just use common sense based on the specific paties, and... I suggest nin sub and 2 axe for when you're not tanking because that shield won't help you in the slightest.

Actually, Monk has a B in Staff and a C+ in Club. Not something you'd XP with primarily, but like I said, macro a Staff in for Hundred Fists and you might have something.

I am only going to take Warrior to 37 (6 levels to go) for my monk sub but if I ever go further with warrior I promise to unlock Ninja so I can be as effective as possible in my Warrior abilities. *puts up two fingers* Scouts honor!

I have the shield because there is a slot open for it. The main reason I switch back to Great Axe after Axe caps is because I realize that the shield does little to nothing in helping me keep hate or reducing the damage I take. I'd rather keep the hate by making the mob bleed.

Edit: Thanks for the info Cubs. Something to keep in mind.
