Ok, so some people started talking about them here: http://www.qcdn.org/ffxi/showthread.php?t=44098

But I think we could all use a thread to talk about the new pokemon games, discuss how were doing, ask for trades/battles, swap friend codes etc.

My code is 0430 4759 4445 on Diamond, new to the whole trading thing now I can do it with wifi.

Personally, I'm after the trading evolutions like Golem and Steelix that Ive never been able to get before :)

I was thinking about picking this up today. I haven't played a pokemon game since red/blue, but I've been looking for something new to try and I like the idea of online play.

If I pick it up today, I'll throw my code up.

Picked it up from my freind who got a few copies last friday/saturday this morning.
It's ok but doesnt seems as fun as the previous versions so far. it could just be me focusing on how ridiulously ugly that bloated beaver monstrosity looks even compared to other pokemon.
I'm about to go get my first gym badge soon.

Nintendo should have made it possible to use more of the features on this game acessible via touchpad. I get annoyed seeing teh menu screen since it's not acess via teh start button and I have to think back to remember which button to press for it. Bringing up a basic menu should be natural toa player. Also the first thing I suconsiously try to do is acess the menu via the touchpad when it pops only to realize I have to do it the old fashioned way.
The gameplay seems the same as ever which may be why this is definetly starting to feel old. I expect nintendo to do something more exiting once I get past the noob levels or else.I doubt they will fail.

Basically the only real problem with this atm is that the touchpad feels weird combined with this game when it should feel natural to the point where you feel like you can play the game only using a stylus like several other games I've been playing on the DS.

I finally glanced through the instruction manual yesterday and was happy to see the Secret Bases have made a comeback. I loved that feature, but unfortunately had nobody else in my circle of friends playing the game. It'd be awesome if it automatically transfers bases from people on your friend code list... we shall see.

I played for a few hours yesterday. Sadly, one of those hours was spent picking which Pokemon I wanted to start with.

I couldn't decide between fire-monkey-guy or turtle-with-plant-on-his-head. I eventually went with the turtle.

Also, <3 running shoes. I probably would have stopped playing it I had to keep walking at that slow ass pace.

I currently have 4 pokemon. :bb: All 4 of them are ones I've never heard of.

There's this cowgirl trainer later that has like 5 or 6 of the damn things. I was like "OH GOD MAKE THIS STOP, WHY DO YOU HAVE SO MANY OF THIS HIDEOUS ABOMINATION?" Worse than the guy who always has 6 Magikarp...

At any rate, for the most part, I just ignore the touchpad, except for battle. I don't mind it the way it is really, because that's the key part of it anyway, and that much works great.

P.S.

Ding. Aw yeah, full AF.
...wait a minute.

Sinnoh underground only works with other people with DSs near you, not over the internet :((

Such a big shame, because thats the only way to get the Ghost/Dark pokemon Spiritomb. You need to talk to 32 people in the Underground (or the same person 32 times).

Status update:

2 gym badges, 13 hrs played.

My team so far is:

Pinplup lvl 26
Staravia lvl 25
Luxio lvl 22
Kadabra lvl 21
Beautifly lvl 20
Bibarel lvl 15 (just using him as a HM whore as he can learn 6/8 of them, and seeing his stupid fat face every time I use a HM move makes me giggle)

Looking around for a good pokemon to replace Bibarel at the moment, and Beautifly is just a place-holder til I can get a better bug, like Scyther.

I'm in the 3rd big-ish city, where the cntests are held, and a gym leader refuses to let me in cos im not strong enough yet. Moving on to the city with a fighting type gym in I think.

Ew, yeah. I won't even use that bubbly beaver/mouse thing because I hate looking at him. He has this face that says "Put me out of my misery, please."

It would been cool if everything was touchscreen, but I don't mind the menu using buttons. My thumb is there anyways, mashing down the run button.

Somebody... please tell me I can get a mudkip. Please?

Every single pokemon to date is available in the game to get in one way or another. Once you get past a certain point, you can transfer (permanently) 6/day from ruby/sapphire or fire red/leaf green.
If that's not an option, I can help later, once I get a ditto.

That blows about the secret bases being local wireless only, but I guess I can live with it. It would've been nice to stumble into Galaika's room and get my ass stomped by his team or have it go the other way around.

I'm only about eight hours into the game, but I got a honeycomb-looking pokemon this morning from some tree I'd slathered with honey the night before.

Male or female Combee? Congratu-fucking-lations if you got a female one, as its the only sex that evolves :(

3 males so far here, bloody honey.

Lemme know when you get your friend code Hali (when you get your Pal Pad from downstairs in a Poke Centre), need someone to trade gravelers/kadabras/machokes with to get em to evolve :)

It's a male Combee, but give me time.

I'd already posted my Friend Code in the WiFi Connection thread, but it's 1461 2686 3092 and you're already on my list.

I seem to remember a threadwhere people requested to have a pokemon named after them on other payers games. Anyone wanna restart that so that I can have decen nicknames to give pokemon?

Damnit. I just realized I spelled my name wrong when i started the game. Am I correct to assume I can't rename "Pbsqual" without reatarting?

iam hoping my copy well come to saudi in a week or 2

till then ,ill EP train all my pokemon on red fire ;p

I'll be honest... the last pokemon game I've played was Red version for the old school gameboy >_>; I really enjoyed the game, played it like 4 times through as a kid, even had a Mew! <3 However, I found myself turned off by all the newer games due to the mass amounts of new pokemons in it O_O; how is this one? I've been waiting to look for a decent pokemon game to play on the DS since I think all the past ones released sucked. I might not like the show or anything like that, but the game is still fun >_>;

I was the same way. I hadn't touched a pokemon game since red/blue.

So far, it seems like the same thing, only much better. Thumbs up all around.
